Most undeserved self-entitlement by a wrestling personality

Seeing Disco Inferno make an ass of himself on social media again got me thinking..


Whenever you hear about a someone connected to pro wrestling being an absolute scrotebag well anywhere, it’s mostly always some guy who mostly peaked at the lowest mid card level. The guy that never main evented (unless he/she was in a battle royal or some kind), might of held a secondary title if they were lucky, were the Marty Janetty if they were in a tag team, had a sub par work rate, never had a match anyone would consider a classic or more then 3 stars using a star ratings. Couldn’t even headline an Indy show or small town convention. But they act like gods gift to the profession cause they are around during some boom period. And they feel the need lecture modern wrestlers on how to go about the business.

Well I’ve already mentions Disco .. and I’m sure there others.. so have at it.

I'm tempted to throw Mark Madden in there, but I think he's not really the most fair example since commentating about wrestling was already his job even before he did commentary. Yeah, he has definitely coasted on his WCW tenure, and he seems like a bit of a douchebag, but I guess I wouldn't call his opinion of himself inflated, exactly.

Ivelisse has a bit of this to her. People who like her try to go to bat for her, but she has talked herself out of a few lucrative positions by now, and despite being pretty good, just isn't good enough to be worth it for people, it seems like.

Just by dint of being a fan of a Pittsburgh sports team, I can't qualify Madden.

Not because I want to defend him or associate with him in any way, but because his schtick was already well-known as an obnoxious loudmouth who stirs the pot for engagement. To expect any better of him would have been a fool's errand.

So I'm picking the single safest possible choice I can.

Low Ki is a complicated and interesting answer for me, because on its face, it almost doesn't seem like a reasonable answer. Dude is a well decorated guy who was one of the biggest indie names of his time and has a strong case for being one of the best talents of his generation. Inaugural ROH champion, three-time IWGP junior heavyweight champ, multiple runs all over the places with tons of companies where there was almost always a general desire to do something with him and make him a star. Ego almost seems normal in a case like that, a lot of guys would get an ego given all of that. Except then you look at what he's done with his ego and holy shit no this is somehow still proportionally speaking absolute lunacy. A person with as much talent as Low Ki shouldn't be in the running for most undeserved, because that feels like a measure of proportion of talent to behavior, but he's just that crazy. He's not just a guy with demons who burned bridges, and it's really f***ed up that he's a safe answer, because that shouldn't be true, but I agree with you completely.

Kazuyuki Fujita.

He had a good MMA career, and can pull off the dumb jock stereotypical Inokiist style better than most but, he was never a draw as a pro wrestler, and certainly doesn’t have the kind of star power needed to justify having promotions cater to his every egomaniacal whim. Even to the detriment of their current and future stars.

Keiji Mutoh can get away with that because he’s Keiji Mutoh. He’s one of the biggest stars in the history of the industry. Fujita was only on top at a time when Inoki was more invested in competing with MMA than he was promoting a wrestling company. I saw all of this as a Fujita fan.

I'll third Low Ki. I'd argue that the most memorable moment from the last ten years of his career, and the moment he most looked like a star, was him coming out as Agent 47 at Wrestle Kingdom and looking absolutely badass.

Then you read more into it and realize that not only was it unauthorized and unapproved, his reasoning for doing it was as a silent protest because he didn't want to wrestle in Fukushima and the character choice was to show that he was "the professional" and I'm hurting my head trying to figure out his logic so I'm just going to link the article instead:

There's just regular-ass 'I'm worth infinite dollars', 'Give me the title and have me beat everyone' ego that a guy like Low Ki would have and it'd be not reasonable but completely expected. He f***ed himself out of a spot in New Japan right on the cusp of its international ascent. His dumbass protest cost him a resurgence of visibility and acclaim. If he wasn't a total dipshit, he would have been only a few years and further commitment away from not only being able to mix it up with the white hot juniors division of the late '10s, but be in New Japan at a time where they were more gaijin-friendly than ever. He blew it so hard that New Japan people later said they're willing to work with "anyone but Low Ki".

Just came in here to post this. Can't think of another guy who was so insignificant and yet is so far up his own ass.
