I thinks a combination things including, but not limited to him being a third generation superstar. Wrestling is considered a family business, so anytime a formerly established wrestler has a son or a daughter break into the business that son or daughter automatically is a few steps ahead of anyone else breaking into the business.
Orton also has a good look, a good build and is moderately decent in the ring, plus I assume alot of money has been invested in him to just cast him away, and finally he's youthful. He's been in the business a solid five years and is only in his mid/late 20's, so his best years may still be ahead of him. If I was Vince I'd do the same thing, I'd put up with some attitude problems now if there's a possibility of him becoming the next big thing in wrestling, in the sense of Steve Austin or The Rock.

He and Pacman Jones should team up as the most bored looking champions.

I don't see how Bob Orton Jr would be a reason he keeps his job, as much as I respect the guy, he was never a main eventer in the WWE.
As far as Randy goes, I think he will end up being a very good name, but he just seems to be that one step below guys like the Rock, Austin, Foley or even guys like Triple H and Bret Hart. Not that there's anything wrong with that...I just don't see the megastar that Vince tries to make him out to be.
As for the guy who said it wouldn't be a big deal if orton jumped to TNA, let's take the hate colored glasses off for a sec. It WOULD be a big deal. Maybe not in the mainstream, but among wrestling fans it would.

I've said before
-he's the right size (the size Vince likes)
-he's a young main eventer that can work a full schedule (unlike part timers like HBK, Booker or Taker)
-Decent in the ring and wrestles the way WWE want him to (chinlocks)
Jeez, if it were strictly down to his dad, David Flair would have main evented wresltemania by now.

The 'he's not the Rock argument' is totally unfair though. You'll likely NEVER see another Rock inasmuch as a guy that can grab people's attention in wrestling and then go on to transcend the sports entertainment like he has. Even Hogan, Austin, Flair et al haven't been able to do what Rock has. So the, he won't ever be the Rock, isn't really a fair criticism of Orton, like him or dislike him. Guys. Chavo is also a 3rd generation wrestler, and the grandson of one of Mexico's most legendary wrestlers, arguably second only to El Santo because Chavo's grampa was El Santo's tag partner. As to why Randy gets away with murder and still gets pushed down our throats, again: Can we please stop using this as an excuse? Seriously, if we follow this logic then Animal would have been Smackdown Champion by now and David Flair would overcome the odds as he holds the WWE title for two years straight. Having family ties means nothing in the WWE.

He can do it all - not necessarily great at anything, but very good at everything. Through in the Orton name and you have a quality main eventer. And I love how certain guys bring out the morality of the board - honestly, who cares that the trashed a hotel room or whatever? If that it was one of the IWC darlings, they wouldn't be on their high horse about it. It is the same damn people who praises Austin despite the fact he beat up a woman. The hypocrisy makes me sick.

he seems able to do no wrong in vinces eyes. why? just because he's third generation? he's hardly the rock. 1 ) He's healthy. 2 ) He's not complete poison in the ring. 3 ) He hasn't destroyed a hotel room or a gym bag in several months.

Why are some people saying it's because of Cowboy Bob? Bob wasn't exactly a huge draw back in the day, wasn't very charismatic, and basically just served to keep Roddy Piper alive. Oh...nevermind.

Decent heel, decent in the ring, from all accounts is a douchebag outside of the ring.
He doesnt hold a candle to Edge though, who has also violated wellness but is still ten times more charismatic, a billion times better on the mic and puts on far more enjoyable matches. It was fun during the Rated RKO run because Edge was so much better than Orton.
Orton gets heel heat right now because he has to, the only other decent (or at least ones that are pushed) heels on Raw are Umaga, Kennedy and Booker. 2 of which are just coming off suspensions recently and the other hasnt been seen since Summerslam.
I can't stand Orton. Granted, a lot of of that stems from the crap I've heard about him outside of the the ring but I also think hes about as charismatic as a tree and IMO is an inconsistent wrestler. Hes definitely gotten better in the ring, but hes a really vanilla heel.

Alright, please don't tell me you're comparing Orton's anger issues (which have supposedly been taken care of, I met him in September outside of a signing event and he was pretty cool) to Austin beating a woman. Last time I checked, Orton never hit a woman, and that whole "pooping in Joy's bag" was proven to be false.
In any case, I, and I imagine a majority of people, never ever condoned Austin's actions. But, why did everyone cheer him anyway? He was Stone Cold Steve Austin, and when his music hit, no one cared what he did outside the ring and was excited to see him.
Am I saying Orton is like Austin? Smurf no, they are 2 completely different wrestlers. But, honestly, who cares what Orton does outside the ring? I don't watch the wwe so i can see what everyone does outside the ring. I watch it for the matches. Orton is very consistent with his matches, he puts on some good matches and can cut good promos when Creative isn't screwing him. Sure, he's not the best, but he's certainly better than more than half the wrestlers on that show. He paid his dues, I remember the match he had with brock lesner that was amazing (this was when he was a jobber).
To answer your question of why he gets so many chances, it's simple, he's friends with Paul Levesque. Being friends with that guy means you're pretty set, and it helps he got the looks.

yeah, vince has fired guys for less than the problems orton has gotten into. why does he continue to turn a blind eye when it comes to randy? Maybe because a lot of the stuff reported didn't actually happen? Also I find it quite unnerving that people believe that a violation of the wellness policy should result in discipline. When you have a drug problem you need help not be punished just because someone behind a computer screen is peeved that you employ rest-holds. You obviously haven't read the Wellness policy have you?It is quite clear in the policy that any volation has a punishment. . Yet, WWE doesn't enforce it in Randy's case. In, fact they have rewritten parts of it to spare Randy at least once. SO spare us the righteous indignation BS, OK?

It's his tendency to be a major dick towards fans that bothers me.
