In kayfabe terms, Hogan technically won the belt at Bash at the Beach when Jarrett laid down, with Russo creating "a new WCW title" which Jarrett and Booker fought for.
It's never recognized as such, but I choose to view the lineage that way, meaning the belt that the WWE eventually got their hands on was the Booker-Nash-Booker-Russo-Booker-Steiner-Booker title and not the one WCW used for the majority of their history. Meanwhile, Hogan is still WCW champion.
Hell, it could be used as a great storyline to revive WCW. Hogan has been carrying around the last living piece of WCW under Vince's nose for the last six years.

Oh, and there were many awesome things in 2000 WCW:
-Positively Kanyon -Screamin' Norman Smiley -David Flair, Daffney, and Crowbar -Natural Born Thrillers -Booker T. moving to the main event. -Lance Storm's title wins and creation of Team Canada -A framed Scott Hall picture in a box.

And, love his gimmicks or not, (I liked all of them) Mike Awesome put on a lot of good matches in WCW. He was probably my favorite wrestling character in the year 2000.

Does Hogan even still have the belt? I know they just used the broken one for a few weeks, but did they ever make Hogan give it back?

WCW also introduced the world to Jamie Noble, although he was a "Japanese" masked man. Does Hogan even still have the belt? I know they just used the broken one for a few weeks, but did they ever make Hogan give it back? WWE produced a special magazine called "Hulkamania" in 2002 during his comeback. There is a picture in it that was taken at the time that shows Hogan holding all the old WWF belts and the WCW belt. I tried to find the picture online, but it was a 2 page picture and I was only able to find the half with the WWF belts.

Ironic that in 2000 Jamie Noble was a redneck pretending a Japanese wrestler and in 2007 Yun Yang is a Japanese wrestler pretending to be a redneck. Oh and Kaz is now American, taller, wrestles for TNA and has a ladder match victory over Christian Cage. (I know, wrong Kaz) Leia Meow would be so disappointed.

I'd never even considered that 2/3 of the Jung Dragons have gone redneck.
And I know everyone hated the myriad of Mike Awesome gimmicks, including Awesome himself, but as someone who was just enjoying the wild ride at that point, it was hilarious how they "eased" his character into these new roles, especially That '70s Guy. He randomly started to wear a leisure suit one week, which seemed to turn Pamela Paulshock on, and it gradually evolved into him becoming a time displaced freak.
More good points about WCW 2000:
-Scott Hudson becoming a main announcer (always one of the most solid yet underrated people in the business). -Jung Dragons/3 Count series -The Russo/Flair feud (although the end sucked since they aborted the New Blood/Millionaire's feud when Bischoff left) -The Cat as commissioner (bonus points to the Jung Dragons randomly attacking him in backstage segments). I actually preferred him to Foley, who was serving the same role in the WWF at the time.

The three second periods that the Cruiserweights got to be onscreen. I assume you haven't watched much of WCW from that year otherwise you would see they had way more TV time. I thought the TV was good towards the end of the year when Russo left, going into 2001. Steiner laying out all the faces one-by-one every month while having a very dominant title run.

the crowd was pretty hyped over that storm/booker match Lance was one of the hotter heels at the time as he came in with a big push right away. Won the U.S title in a tournament, then gets the Cruiserweight and Hardcore belts in the weeks after it. And became Commissioner later on beating The Cat (who was another act that was over) in 01. I know WCW 2000 has a lot of bad, but a good portion of the time it was fairly entertaining as well and the crowds seemed into the show most of the time also. Here's another vid of Steiner beating up a "fan" and bloodying his nose: www.dailymotion.com/Stinger1981/video/x3ivz3_scott-steiner-beats-up-a-fan_sportAnd the contract signing for the Booker.T vs. Scott Steiner match on the last Nitro with some words by Eric Bischoff: www.dailymotion.com/Stinger1981/video/x3wcfc_contract-signing-for-steinerbookert_sport

Here's another vid, Terry Funk gives us 11 "Ho's" after a hardcore match involving Meng, Norman Smiley and Crowbar on commentary: www.dailymotion.com/Stinger1981/video/x3wfnj_meng-vs-norman-smiley_sport

There was nothing good about WCW in 2000. Nothing even remotely good. Nothing that even resembled good. Nothing that even smelled good. Still, some people have the ability to find gold nuggets buried within the huge, stinking brown nugget that was WCW 2000.

And proud of it.
WCW 2000 was good fun. You just couldn't watch with a stick up your ass. You had to become one with the stupidity to understand the genius of it.
