People are complaining because in wrestling, you will never be able to please everyone. Even the most over babyfaces, like DX, will have people in the crowd that don't like them. Cena just gets it on the high end of the spectrum. What that has done is meant that everyone always has an interest in the main event scene though, because you either love him and want to to retain for as long as possible, or hate him and want him to lose badly. Either way most people in the crowd and in the audience at home will have some kind of opinion, which can't be said for Edge/Batista for example, where people don't really mind who goes over as they aren' as emotionally invested in the feud or the wrestlers.
If the WWE didn't want boos for Cena, they would have changed something about his character long ago, or turned him heel like they did with Santino etc. They know though that his current persona evokes such a repsonse from almost everyone that there is no need for change. People will complain, and that is exactly what they want. Everytime you complain about his booking, or his character you are playing right into the WWE's hands. They know exactly what they are doing and everyone is constantly falling for it.

2 months ago:
"spoiler: HHH wins" "Another boring Wrestlemania main event" "smurf HHH"
1 month ago:
"spoiler: HHH wins" "Another boring Wrestlemania main event" "smurf HHH"
During the match "spoiler: HHH wins" "Jobber McJobberton has entered the ring..." "They might as well have had HHH eliminate everyone in the match!!!"
Cena's music hits "Saveus.HHH!!!!"
Sometimes, whenever someone gets what they want, like a surprise in the rumble, someone other than HHH winning, etc, the very thing they were complaining to hell about before can suddenly seem better, even if they would complain about it afterwards. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. If any of the final three had won, people would be pissed about it. Batista because he's had title shot after title shot, after title shot. HHH because of him supposedly burying everyone. Cena because of his former superman push.
I do find it a little funny how people were talking about there being no surprises during the rumble. Personally, I didn't see a single person predicting either Piper or Cena would appear during the match. For him getting a title match, I don't know, I thought that was sort of the point of winning the Royal Rumble. Say he doesn't win at No Way Out (if people can grasp that), would you rather him being there or headlining Wrestlemania? I thought his return was handled perfectly. It was actually a damn surprise instead of everything being leaked 5 months in advance. Maybe it's just me, but I like not knowing exactly what's going to happen...

I'm complaining about Cena because even though he may have taken a couple months off, he still doesn't entertain me and I was really enjoying Raw without him.

Cena is booed partially out of jealousy from the male audience. Cena is everything they wish they were and are not; handsome, charming, witty, and not the least of all, a good, decent human being. This is an interesting point, but I don't think it's jealously. I think it's because it's not realistic and phony. Almost everybody does try to be these things, and fails. In real life, the guy who sends positive messages and does nice things gets in wrestling terms, booed. In real life, the heels are the ones who end up being rich or famous. Most of the famous and rich people have all done bad or sleazy things to help them(not all of them of course). It's not very often that you see kids with posters on the wall of their teacher or a religious figure, it's usually of some rapper or athlete. I think everybody sees themselves as a face, but knows deep inside, that for the most part, all the honest hard-work won't get you anything except a swift kick in the ***. I also think that some people just don't like Cena. Sometimes, no matter what, you will not like someone.

They're complaining because they have nothing better to do. They're complaining because, it's the internet, and when on the internet, NOTHING can do no good. However, the complainers do have one other thing in common. They, and they alone, can fix professional wrestling in America. Just ask them. They'll tell you. The funniest goddamn thing about the whole thing? People heard that it was gonna be HHH winning(or they just assumed so) they went batcrap. "WWE HOLDS PEOPLE DOWN! CM PUNK SHOULD WIN!" et al verbatim. Then #30 hit. The internet exploded. Quite literally, for WC at least. Lastly, the reason the complaining is going on is because everybody is expecting Big Show back soon. They weren't expecting Cena back until spring. WWE SWERVED everybody. Nobody in their right mind thought he'd be back. If they say they did, they're full of crap. We alllllllllllll got owned by WWE. And some just don't like not being in the know. Makes them look like 'marks' instead of 'smarks'. AND THEY JUST CAN'T HAVE THAT! Some people did think it was possible for Cena to return at the RR, like me, see earlier post on Jan 9th..... Re: Wait...So...Who wins the Rumble? « Reply #48 on Jan 9, 2008, 1:00pm » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I wouldnt be the least bit surprised when its #30's turn to come out,Cena 's music hits and he comes out just long enough to win and to not get any further damage to his injury. Then he wouldnt wrestle again until his WM match.

As soon as I heard, I knew the firestorm getting ready to fall. You see, my friends, in this society, it has become cool (for some) to "boo" people. It makes such little sense to me, but seems to be the hip thing.

I really want to like Cena, as already mentioned he seems so likeable in real life.
If he still had his rapper gimmick and didn't constantly overcome the odds he'd be one of my favourites but personally I think WWE have made him an unlikeable petulant brat when he's meant to be a face. I don't understand why people say he can't wrestle though, he may not be a Kurt Angle style mat technician but he's had a lot of great matches.
With all that said I was happy to see him back and I hope he's allowed to more like a cross between himself and a white trash rapper rather than the confusing marine he was before, and of course loose on the odd occasion.
I do feel sorry for the poor guy getting booed the whole time through no fault of his own, especially as he seems to put in so much effort to all his appearances.

I'm wondering if Cena never got injured if he'd still be champion now. Maybe WWE wants to put the belt back on him ASAP and continue as if this injury never happened. People boo Cena because they don't like him, heat is heat. It's not an X-pac type of boo like "Ugh.. get this boring guy off my TV" it's heat, not manufactured heat but heat from people who generally don't dig the John Cena character. He's super over in a very unique way and if we actually have a guy at the top of the card in WWE now then more power to them. Bingo. WWE does not care if you boo Cena. As long as he gets a strong reaction, WWE will continue to do business as is. If you really want to show your dissatisfaction with Cena, sit on your hands and shut up. Silence is the only way to get WWE's attention. All booing does is give WWE ammunition. Complaining on an internet message board is a waste of time as well.

Michael Bay is a crap director in my opinion, whether one or one million people agree with me doesnt change my opinion. Coolness isnt really a factor.

You just don't like the guy. I'm speaking on people who boo him just to boo him. They don't have a specific beef with the guy but if this mass of people are booing him, let's join in. I see a lot of this. Not saying you're doing it. Your booing is justified cause you don't dig him. Boo on.

Not having Cena around was a nice vacation. Look at the Save Us stuff, Look at the dicussions we over Hardy. Should he be in the main event? Is he gonna win? Is he being held down? Some felt one way, some felt another, some didn't care.....we discussed it and it was new and different.....cut to "...3, 2, 1,......It's Cena!!!" and it's right back to SuperCena running over everyone.

Only reason I'm booing Cena is because he's letting HHH be the Mania main event.
I know it's kayfabe, but can HHH just let the people who have main evented all years shine on the big stage? He took it away from age last time he did it, now he'll probably take it from Orton.

Cena the person I have no problems with whatsoever. I just don't want to see the beat the odds push again, eventually the kiddies WILL get sick of it.

Now he's legend so he will easily get cheered.

my problem is this.
people can boo/cheer whoever they want. but i come to the WWE board and see s***-tons of threads dedicated to "boo, cena sucks, blah blah blah" when in reality, he's a hard working guy whos doing a fantastic job of playing his role in the WWE. so many people say cena sucks when it's his BOOKING that is the problem... you're insulting someone who you could likely NEVER work as hard at and do what he does, by saying he "sucks"... he's obviously good at what he does, otherwise he wouldn't be the top guy in the company.
cena dosen't "suck"... the booking of cena has gotten stale, thats all. people should stop bitching about cena and realize that if they were in his shoes, they'd do the same that cena is doing

I think we can safely say it's not Cena who's decided to have him overcome the odds every nanosecond of his existence. Although as far as people complaining about how he's going to go right back to the same old crap... it's been two days since he returned. Who says he's winning? Maybe he's not 100% yet, and he'll not only lose at No Way Out, but do a re-injury angle or something to put Orton over even stronger for WM24. So that way, it'd look even better when Jeff Hardy, coming off his Most Extreme Elimination Challenge Chamber win, beats Orton for the title at WrestleMania. I'm just saying, none of that's happened, but they haven't gone IMMEDIATELY back to the same tired Cena booking yet because, uh, No Way Out hasn't happened yet.
