You want an honest answer? If he came back from injury and got a title shot, I wouldn't mind, since he hadn't lost the title per se. But by winning the freaking royal rumble he's stealing the spot from someone else... I mean... Royal Rumble was won by Raw, Elimination Chamber will involve Raw superstars... I don't watch Smackdown nor ECW, but I would also like for them to get something to make the Nr 1 Contender in Smackdown (or ECW, for that matter) seem important. If it's a simple Nr 1 Contender's match for a title shot at WM, I sure as hell will be saying "why are these the only 2 guys involved in this match? There are other superstars they could choose..." These are my 2 cents... Stealing the spot from someone else! Like it was his idea! Honestly, this board amazes me sometimes. Storyline-wise the character is (now can you stop picking on small things?)... And how do you know that he does not use backstage politics in his favor? Just because he's not Triple H? I'm not a Cena lover or a cena hater, I respect the guy, but I don't like the character. But I absolutely hate John Cena's fans and Anti-John Cena fans. They can't have an imparcial view of the subject, like I do. Did I like the swerve in the Royal Rumble? Yes Did I like the fact that John Cena won it? No Do I think things will be boring from now on? I will only answer this question after Wrestlemania...

I love how people have spent every day since his Rumble return bashing how "forgettable" John Cena's rumble entry was when the truly forgettable moment of that event was internet golden boy Chris Jericho having one of the worst matches of his career.
Haven't seen anyone pointing that out.

You know I remember a time when wrestling fans had the right to boo whoever they wanted. But these Cena fans are ruthless. They will fight to the death about this dude. They spend so much time and energy trying to prove how good he is. We're not saying that he isn't a good wrestler(I am) but we are saying that he doesn't need to be push through like he's on the same level as say Stone Cold or The Rock. That's like back in the early 90's and they are trying to push, let just say, Goldust as an unstoppable wrestler. They need somebody with charisma, talent and mic skills. If he was just a regular wrestler I'd probably would enjoy watching him but as far as them pushing him as a super wrestler I can't. He sucks. So Cena fans just chill out and let us hate him. They done messed wrestling up for us, let us make fun of it so we can feel better.

Ok, seven pages into the thread, and are I'm once again "forced" to point out the following:
1) I don't enjoy John Cena - the character . John Cena the person seems like a legit nice guy who's passionate about what he does.
2) When I say "boooo Cena" it's crystal clear I mean "boooo those who book Cena like that", but it's more effective the former way of putting it, especially at the arena
3) I've always admitted John Cena the character is the best pick as WWE's Top Guy, and they're damn right to push him, because he's over with the key audience. I don't blame the kids for liking him, because if I was a 9 years old American Kid, I'd probably be cheering for him.
4) I know I'm not part of the target audience, and in theory I'd not even supposed to watch WWE. I'm an old school fan who was raised with another style of booking, and I'll never get fully used to the new system.
All these points don't mean I'm not FULLY ENTITLED to dislike the insane push Cena has been given since 2004. I didn't enjoy his rapper days, I enjoy even less his Marine/SuperFace days. And there's a high possibility I won't enjoy what's coming next.
Does it make sense to you?

I gave him a chance, and I got two years of the same booking. I got two years of Cena overcoming all the odds he's ever faced, and going over absolutely every competitor in the main event scene.
Already you can see they're going back to that booking.

I'm not a fan but I don't hate him either. My hate with Cena originally was how he could take these massive beatings in the ring and STILL KEEP GOING. After The Marine came out and he went through basic training, it seemed a little more realistic so I didnt' hate him as much. I'll give him a chance.

Already you can see they're going back to that booking. I concur. I have no doubts he's a good guy. I've met him in towns where events have been held twice now and from what I gathered hes very talkative and personable and seems to thoroughly enjoy interacting with the fans. I even kidded with him that he needed to drop the belt and he took it very well and was not disingenuous about it at all. He earned a lot of my respect with that attitude. My only problem with him is that he's an extremely limited with what he can do in this type of booking, the gripe is with the way he's pushed, not with the man. That dislike brushes off on him, as he's the one who "delivers" this booking to us in the physical form, and when it's literally shoved down the throats of the people who have indifferences with him in this regard, it should be no surprise that people dislike him. He could be a very interesting character if he was fleshed out a bit more and there was some, even just a little versatility in his booking, rather than the constant Superman crap.

YOU jump down my throat. DGG. i'm really trying to keep from getting sarcastic. But you're making it hard, bro.

I don't dislike John Cena the man, or even the on-screen character. What I dislike is the superman push he got. Even HHH at the very top of his reign wasn't booked as THAT invincible.
It got very tiresome seeing him win every. single. week.
If he'd be booked as more human and if he'd lose every so often, I think he'd be more popular.

I agree...and before anyone argues it, I doubt very highly that Cena's merchandise sales would be affected by the occassional loss.
