The Batistabomb was merely an excuse for the injury. He's actually been hurting since before Summerslam.

Totally different. If the end result of this does turn out to be the neck fusion, the chances of a 5 month early comeback are non-existent.

Remember Angle. If Cena does the procedure he had done, maybe he could. However, it may not be a great idea, given that like Angle, Cena likes to push himself too fast after an injury.

I don't get why they didn't write the injury into the storyline. Adamle just comes out and says "Cena's injured," where they could have had him come out and get beat down. It would have turned Batista into a major heel if it was him, and set the stage perfectly for a return feud when he comes back (while I am warming up to Cena somewhat, Batista has gotten stale and should turn sooner rather than later).

I'm also frustrated that they threw in Rey at the last minute. Why not a qualifier, tournament, or battle royal to determine the spot? Smackdown and ECW had qualifiers for all their slots. The Raw challengers just get a free pass.

John Cena was initially scheduled to be examined by Dr. Lloyd Youngblood in San Antonio, TX on Wednesday. Youngblood has performed neck surgery on many WWE stars including Steve Austin, Edge, and Lita. There is a fear that Cena's injury is far worse than just the herniated disc mentioned on RAW.

UPDATE: Dr. Joseph Maroon, Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Team Neurosurgeon for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is scheduled to perform surgery on John Cena's neck today. WWE.com hopes to have post-surgical interviews with both Dr. Maroon and John Cena later today. Despite the setback, Cena plans on returning to the ring as soon as possible. "You can either do one of two things: be upset or know what you can do to get better," said Cena, "the ultimate goal is to be as strong as I can and get back into the ring as soon as possible."

WWE.com has learned that Cena's procedure was successful and surgeon Dr. Joseph Maroon was very positive about Cena's condition. The Superstar has been sent to recovery and further updates will be available later today.

But he could still move his arms. Not being able to move your arms because a of neck injury can screw up a hasty return (and knowing how Cena is, I still wouldn't be shocked if he rushed back in, even if he does have the neck surgery).

Doesn't shock me, of course they'd want Cena back ASAP. I just hope better judgment comes into play because neck injuries aren't something that can be waived off as easily as a pectoral injury.

I wish Cena a speedy recovery. I feel bad for the guy, whether you like his in-ring persona or not, there's no doubt in my mind that he wants to do nothing more than do his best to entertain the fans.

I really hope he and WWE will pull back on some of the stuff he does when he returns. This is two serious injuries now in the course of a year. This one could have been a lot worse. Time to tone things down a little and cut some things from the schedule.
