Alright guys, if you all want to argue about the movie itself and it's content, that's fine. But the personal attacks stop now.

Who'd have thought a movie with vampires, werewolves, a pervert/stalker, and a teenage half-naked Native American child molester would be such a huge hit?

It was pretty obvious this was going to make money from the start, and you know what? There is nothing wrong with that. If people enjoy these movies, good for them I say. I like to see people happy, not miserable. And wallowing in misery because they are happy is both a waste of time and causing to much unnessacry stress. They can have their Twilight and I can have my other vampire movies and we'll both be happy. Works out for everyone. For those that want a reason to feel "safe" for the Dark Knight, the bad legs on this movie has already started, hence why it won't break the OW record.

My main issue with the franchise is that it was that which made Muse popular in the US. I don't like the idea of them being associated with such dross.

Last time I checked, Vampires weren't allowed in the sun, and they drank human blood. Also, neither werewolves or vampires were glittery. The myth of vampires has been evolving for centuries, with new generations always adding or taking something away from it. I mean, how many modern vampires live as a jellish boneless mass (that is also invisible)? People have always been making up crap for imaginary monsters, and a vampire in general isn't any different. If this was saying that Edward was actually Blade from Marvel Comics then it'd be a problem since its an established individual character with set parameters, but the only difference here is someone is getting paid to say 'um maybe vampires can do this" instead of just telling it to people in a tavern. Legends always grow and change. The "romantic vampire" high in his castle that we all probably know best isn't close to being the first.

Muse is associated with Twlight?! "Supermassive Black Hole" played in one scene of the first film. "I Belong to You" from the new album is on the soundtrack for the new movie. Also, Stephanie Meyers is a huge fan of theirs and cited them as inspiration for the books.

Also, I think this movie won't inspire 2 out of 3 people have the brilliant idea of dressing up as _____ for Halloween, so in that regard Twilight > TDK.
"Hey I know, maybe I'll go as the Joker!"

Next year I will go as Edward, all the ladies will love me!* *Neither of these things is going to happen.

What the hell! An over-rated movie where only the tertiary character is interesting and that is the epitome of whiny emo angst and is all about merchandising and posers pretending to be dark set the single weekend gross? ... And then Twilight beat it! That is right Dark Knight fans suck it! Send all your hate mail here.
Just kidding. I am on the who cares bandwagon. I didn't like either movie but if other people do, hey let them. That's what makes the world awesome I like to watch men in tights tie each other up in homo-erotic restholds and some people like sparkly vampires.

In hindsight, after a weekend of thinking about this whole Twilight crap I've decided to take the "Who The F--- Cares?" route.

It's not surprising, really. The Twilight craze is probably the biggest book to film phenomenon there's been since Harry Potter. Most Twilight fans are teenage girls, and statistically more teenagers go to the movies than anyone else.
For anyone who hates that it's the record holder, don't worry too much. Iron Man 2 will probably break it next year, and if not that, Spider-Man 4 in 2011 will.

Twilight is vastly overrated, while Ghost Rider (the movie) is really unheard of.
