What happened during the Kane feud? Was it that one-sided? To the best of my memory, I don't think Kane beat him...except once. The record was something ridiculous for Kane. 1-23456788999. to be blunt

Think the one win Kane got in that entire feud (and it was basically over at that point) was when he beat Rey and Mike Knox to qualify for Money in the Bank. Besides that, Rey wiped the floor with him at every turn.
Pretty much what he's doing now with Punk, basically, though worse since at least with Kane it was one-on-one.

The reason so many people clamored for him to be moved up the card years ago was because of how amazingly talented he was. But now, through no real fault of his own of course, he's just not the same guy. The injures have eaten away at what he once was and he's just not really that guy anymore. His size could be overlooked because of the moves he could do to combat larger opponents. Now, he's more or less a ground based wrestler with a few high spots thrown in. At 5'5 and 170 pounds, that's not going to cut it. There's only so many times people can coincidently trip into position for the 619, yet in non-Mysterio matches, no one ever falls into that position, before it just gets old and stupid. Rey Mysterio of the 90's and Rey Mysterio of, say, 2002-2005 or 6 in WWE did deserve to be elevated up the card. He could go and he was damn good. Rey Mysterio of 2010, 1) shouldn't be wrestling anymore because of the shape he's in physically, and 2) should not be featured at such a high level at this point. He just doesn't have what he used to. But...but...the kids love him! Ever since he returned from injury with double his original weight since his debut, Rey has never entertained me again. And it's like every feud Rey is in is about THE SAME F***IN' THING.

Exactly. a guy like Luke Gallows AND Punk AND Serena can't collaberate and win a (essentially)3-1 situation? Can't stand it. Rey's been way too OVERProtected.

I mean how the hell did they not make him a huge star? Now he's a joke which is so sad.

Kane beat Rey more than once during their feud, in singles competition no less.

Personally, I can't STAND the 619. It's a really contrived, unimpactful move. It should be a transitional move...at BEST. Wasn't it transitional in WCW?

If this was 2008 I would tend to agree with most people here that he couldn't work anymore.
But in 2009 Mysterio was easily WWE's worker of the year with stand out performances at the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, series with Jericho, series with Ziggler, match with Morrison.
I could go on but I think you get my drift.
Anyway in 2010 hasn't been too shabby for him either he already has WWE's best tv match of this year (vs Punk), a good runner up would be his TV match with Tyson Kidd
He also probably had the best match that anyone is ever going to have with Luke Gallows.
As for the feud with Punk I don't mind it as long as the two of them continue to put on great performances.

Rey's been booked this way for a while though. I remember during his feud with Kane it seemed like he was just kicking his ass every week.
That said, it doesn't bother me that much. I don't think it's making Punk look bad at all. I'd book it a little differently. Most notably I would've had Punk win the match at Mania. This way Mysterio would be in the SES for a month, and then win his freedom (and Punk's hair) at Extreme Rules.

He did it quite often, but it was just a fake dive. He never used it as a move until WWE I'm pretty sure. And it IS a transitional move. To my knowledge Mysterio has never won a match with it. He hits the 619 and then follows up with something else. It is pretty contrived, but the part that bugs me the most about it is that he finishes with a lame splash now. I also hated when he did the seated senton. Dude should finish it with the springboard 'rana or leg drop.

I love how threads like this always start up about whoever Punk's feuding with at the moment, providing he isn't decisively winning every encounter.
If anything, I think Rey's been on a tremendous roll since last year, stealing the show at the '09 elimination chamber, giving us one of the strongest feuds of the year against Jericho, and putting on a spectacular match against Morrison that should've been a career-defining moment for the younger man.
I'd say he's one of the most talented in-ring workers in WWE today (hell, with HBK gone, I'm tempted to consider him *THE* best active worker on the roster), and on top of that he's tremendously over and sells a crapload of merchandise.
Rey's easily one of the company's biggest assets at the moment.

Either him, Seamus or Jack Swagger Drewy Mac too How could I possibly forget him? He easily outperforms post-champ Sheamus and Swaggah on the Hateometer.

How could I possibly forget him? He easily outperforms post-champ Sheamus and Swaggah on the Hateometer. Hell, according to polls on here the people who like Sheamus and Swagger greatly outweigh those who don't, those people are just more outspoken. Drew McIntyre, though, had a poll where people were asked their favorite thing about him and his theme song probably got 90% of the vote. As for the Punk thing, actually am curious to see what they do with him after this Rey feud is over. There's still a big deficiency of top heels - we've got Batista as a firmly established one, Sheamus, Punk, and Jericho as midcarders capable of filling in when needed, and Miz and Big Show both feasibly able to headline when they're given a chance (which, in Miz's case, I figure will be just after the end of NXT). On one show that'd be a lot, but across two that leaves a serious void.
