He's finally made it to the stop so, predictably, the internet who worshiped him for eons suddenly find reasons to hate him. Shocking. Or you know, people just don't like how his character has changed. This argument is just as annoying as the CM Punk can do no wrong arguments that we get around here all the time. People are fully capable of forming their own opinions on the matter.

I dunno. I love him, but sometimes I feel exploited. I also get the feeling that he has been teaching me some pretty bad mathematical habits.

After years of being forced to watch Cena (ugh...), we're actually complaining about Punk now?! WTF?
The fact that he isn't Cena, and they are actually pushing him, should make him Wrestling Jesus in my eyes.

Honestly, not the best example. As good a performer as Edge was, he didn't exactly have gripping title runs, mostly because they'd be over if you blinked. True. However, speaking for myself, the Edge/Cena feud over the WWE title was pretty much the sole highlight in what was an otherwise dull year. Agreed, and CM Punk's reign hasn't been exactly what I would call 'gripping'. Punk v. Ace has just been SCSA v. McMahon Lite, imo. At least Edge's character/story arch had some originality to it.

He's marketed towards a certain audience and they're using him to outright pander to that audience at times.

Why does it have to be "Oh he's mainstream now everyone hates him", why can't it just be that maybe...now just maybe...some people don't like where his character is at right now? Is it really that hard to comprehend that maybe what he's doing now just isn't resonating with some people? Do we have to lump everyone into a single group?

Outside of his SES days never much cared for Punk. (that might just be the anti-smark in me)

There are people that didn't like him even before he hit it big, believe it or not.

Frankly, I don't understand the "I'm more annoyed at the complaining about CM Punk" posts. How many threads are created (or devolve into) in order to attack guys like Cena, Rock, or Triple H. Why should Punk be any exception?

I LOVED him when he was in SES, before that not so much, I can not stand his character now. he's like that D-bag in school who talked too much, but has a microphone. I can not stand his talking. It got really bad right around when Kevin Nash started getting involved. The guy plays a jerk, on screen and off. I don't like jerks.

Edge's original storyline was pretty cool, but I thought that he kinda got boring over the next five years when he proceeded to have nearly the exact same feud over and over again. But that's probably just me.

The "pipe bomb" thing is the only bit that really annoys me now. When he first said it, it was an awesome exclamation point on an already great promo. Then he said it again, and it lost a little impact, but was still a pretty cool tag line. Now that it's practically a catchphrase though, it's just robbed all the impact from it.

I honestly cannot remember the last time Punk used the Pipebomb line. The announcers do it everytime he gets a mic but like I said, I cannot remember the last time he did.
As for the "why cannot people dislike Punk" line, they can. It's just damn funny that when he was working his way up, first got his shot against Cena and was still getting mixed reactions from the fans damn near everyone was quiet about it, now since he's become the number two face in WWE the only people talking are the ones that hate him which seemed to explode over night. Maybe some do dislike the way his character has grown but I'll be damned if some aren't just following the same tired "he got popular so he sucks" attitude that pops up everytime someone gets over in WWE.

Please note this is not a hate thread I love Punk, watched him since his ROH days and I am happier then ever that he is in a top spot.... However I find myself rolling my eyes at his promos lately he just comes across so smarmy and cocky he just seems to forced like he's trying to say "LOOK LOOK AT ME GUYS I'M SO COOL AND EDGY I'M THE COOLEST MOST EDGY GUY IN THE E" not to mention his twitter "beef" with Chris Brown screams 15 year old girl trying to get attention and I agree with Punk Chris Brown needs his ass slapped around but if your gonna do it, then do it don't run your mouth on a social network and get the douchbag more exposure... Anyway anyone else feel that Punk is spending too much time trying to drop Pipebombs and be "cool" during his promos? For example this past Monday between him and Y2J was awesome it seemed real and it made the belt matter that's the kind of Punk promo I wish he would do all the time instead of the "Alberto is boring haha" "Miz can't even wrestle haha" "John the boy scout haha" or "Do you like that PAUL" (cause using a wrestlers real name is so edgy) Again not a Punk hate thread not even trying to nitpick just a discussion Shut your mouth! I will sock you right in the Adam's apple!

As Punk's pandering to them, he's got a bit more leeway with them.

I think he's fine but he needs three things to really cement him:
1. A rival that can be his equal, preferably a corporate champion backed up by Big John. Take Dolph, groom him to be the next corporate champion, and make him a complete sell out. Make Dolph the one guy that Punk, by hook or by crook, can't beat.
2. Take the belt off of him and don't give it back for years. Give him a legitimate reason to be angry; this is a guy who's all about angry revolution but, really, he's had it great so far in WWE. It doesn't make sense for a guy like him to talk about being screwed over by management when he hasn't had it that bad.
3. Make the people miss him. What should have happened since the beginning; get the guy out of the picture for a while, talk about him getting fired, have him get screwed big time for the belt, and make his treatment the elephant in the room. Have people on the roster get pissed off about it. Subtly build over a couple of months that he's coming back with planted fans dressed up in his gear in the crowd, the symbol popping up, veiled insider references, etc. and then give him a huge return.

"OMG Kevin Nash though he was dead LOL" is quite close to the lamest thing I've ever heard a wrestler say.

But the thing is, isn't it a bit unfair to lump both groups together, and only present the option that makes mocking the group as a whole easier? You admit that maybe some dislike the way he's grown, but then ultimately reject that in favor of the easier to mock "he got popular so the internet hates it" theory, even though several people have given well reasoned responses as to why they've started disliking him.
