"OMG Kevin Nash though he was dead LOL" is quite close to the lamest thing I've ever heard a wrestler say. I thought it was funny. Even if it wasn't, there's been a whole lot lamer said. Something about a popcorn fart and a cockatoo's ass comes to mind...

He speaks his mind, whether I agree or disagree with what he is saying, I respect that he has the balls to say it.

Lame true....but at least one of those has been chanted by at least one crowd I'm indifferent to Punk much like I am to Cena in many ways. He's good, but he comes across as a douche in and out of the ring...so I find him an unlikable rebel. I get his character, I just don't like his character but not to the point I want him off my screen.

I honestly cannot remember the last time Punk used the Pipebomb line. The announcers do it everytime he gets a mic but like I said, I cannot remember the last time he did. As for the "why cannot people dislike Punk" line, they can. It's just damn funny that when he was working his way up, first got his shot against Cena and was still getting mixed reactions from the fans damn near everyone was quiet about it, now since he's become the number two face in WWE the only people talking are the ones that hate him which seemed to explode over night. Maybe some do dislike the way his character has grown but I'll be damned if some aren't just following the same tired "he got popular so he sucks" attitude that pops up everytime someone gets over in WWE. But the thing is, isn't it a bit unfair to lump both groups together, and only present the option that makes mocking the group as a whole easier? You admit that maybe some dislike the way he's grown, but then ultimately reject that in favor of the easier to mock "he got popular so the internet hates it" theory, even though several people have given well reasoned responses as to why they've started disliking him. I am not lumping them all together. I thought I put it quite clearly that I am sure some have grown to dislike his character or never liked it to begin with but there is obviously quite a few that have the "he's gotten popular so he sucks" attitude. Never once did I dismiss a legit opinion from someone that has given a reason why. The problem is too many will just say he sucks and move on. Part of the problem is I know for a fact these same people don't watch WWE at all or claim to not have watched since he won the title but feel the need to go into threads not only dealing with Punk but anyone or anything else in WWE that gets popular and run them down and it annoys the shit out of me.

If he was actually pandering to a certain audience, he'd be getting mixed reactions just like Cena. But that's not the case, Nope, Cena gets booed by the adult audiences. As Punk's pandering to them, he's got a bit more leeway with them. If Punk's pandering to the adult audience, then why do kids cheer for him as well?

Don't get me wrong; when the Rock is on fire, he's on fire, and if there's anything I would never take away from him, it's his charisma and his way with words. But every wrestler has had some duds, and a lot of them much worse than a text-speak joke. PS: I only used Rock because "JBL is Poopy" was too easy in the lame line category.

Well yes that is a line from Cena which needs no repeating. Thing about Rock is though his entire schtick is about silly references and phrases. I remember back on Smackdown in 2000, he pretended to say "I didn't run over Stone Cold" in Swedish and Chinese. It's all silly humour. But as far as Punk goes....I do see someone elses point about him appearing to "try too hard" to be edgy. I've never really liked Punk anyway, so I doubt I'll start anytime soon.

I'm not a Punk fan but I never really minded him either, just found him vastly overrated...but a few weeks ago, he became the first person since Michael Cole to make me change the channel due to his sheer obnoxiousness.
So if you were a Punk fan and have been turned off by him lately, shrug off the "IWC hivemind lolz" crowd. He truly has become more annoying.

Austin pandered more to older audiences too, and kids had/have no trouble in cheering for him. Just because a person or product is geared towards one demographic doesn't mean others can't enjoy him. Judging by his overall character and his promos, I think CM Punk is geared more towards hardcore wrestling fans (often lumped together with "adult" or "IWC" fans), but that obviously hasn't stopped others from liking him.

That kind of goes against the meaning of the word.

All pander really means is to "gratify or indulge" (taken from the definition on Google). I've never seen anything that says no else can enjoy something even if they're not the ones being pandered to.

This is one of the first threads I've seen talking about disliking Punk. Is the world ending?
I like Punk now, before he was 'meh'. The whole New nexus thing was garbage but that's past. Currently, he's got a glow that trying to grow but his dorky attitude just kills it. His promos are made up of 3rd grade comebacks and nostalgic refrences. Honestly I don't give a damn ice cream bars, they would probably suck anyway.
I will say his matches have been amazing lattely. But his 'pipebombs' are more like firecrackers. He was on fire after the original shoot, but he's kinda just been fizzing ever since.

I admit, I'm gonna have to wait for his segment tonight to form a more informed opinion, it's been about a month since I've checked out anything WWE, where I liked Punk, but I didn't love him the way I did during the SES or post-"shoot". I'm interested to see how much the character has progressed in that time.

I don't see how "pandering" is spoken of in such negative terms since that what all of wrestling, hell pretty much all of entetainment, is.

Punk at his peak - Voice of the voiceless, 'They aren't a Universe, they're FANS!'
Punk now calls fans 'the WWE Universe'
he's gone through the WWE Face machine and is losing any edge he had imo

He's the most interesting persona in years. Yet, the IWC will find a way to bash him.
