Didn't we see the same pattern of ratings dropping last week? And I'm pretty sure it was Cena in the main event then. Last weeks overrun was 3.27. They gained over 700,000. Mark Henry laughs at ratings problems. Or Kane.

If only, but I doubt it.

I can believe this news, but at the same time, just taking the belt off Punk without giving him any good heels to feud with would be stupid.

Lords of Pain's prone to posting bullshit, and this is worded in such a way to be smarkbaity.

Meltzer never said anything about WWE being upset with Punk in his update. Whoever wrote this news-bit went into business for himself. Punk is one of the only guys outside of Cena and HHH who move ratings on RAW consistently. (albeit not by a huge, megastar margin). All Meltzer said was that the main event was a disaster ratings-wise. This is hardly indicative of Punk being a failure, since, as mentioned, he moves numbers normally. It's more on WWE for booking the remainder of the participants so horribly, for so long, that the casuals don't see them as stars, regardless of WWE's current fancy. But, hey, things can change with enough tenacity and patience. In 1996, a Steve Austin/Undertaker Main Event drew the worst RAW number ever at that point. And well, things turned out ok in the end. . Sometimes slow & steady wins the race. WWE should just keep pushing until it sticks or sinks.

Really? Please don't say Cole is not the problem. A segment with Daniel Bryan, Zack Ryder, and CM Punk would be great if Cole does not suck life out of it with bickering, annoying commentary driving people away.

Being someone who actually subscribes to PWInsider then sees the things that get posted here from other places who attribute it to them, I don't buy any of this stuff that gets posted anymore. There have been an insane amount of news bits posted on this forum over the years that end up just being mangled versions of what was actually reported a week prior. This may very well be true, but I'm just not believing something posted from a second or third hand source in a game of internet telephone.
For the sake of argument though, let's just pretend this story is true. Exactly what are they going to do it they do take the belt off of him? Cena isn't a TV draw. Triple H isn't a draw. Orton isn't, Miz isn't, no one is. This company doesn't have anyone who actually causes people to spike the ratings anymore. The only guy who has recently was Rock, and that evened off after the buzz died down. They have a group of guys who all sit on the same level. Swapping the belt around isn't going to make a difference. It hasn't for a long time.

All Meltzer said was that the main event was a disaster ratings-wise. And that's exactly what I'm talking about. Someone online took this and turned it in to, "WWE WANTS TO ABANDON SHIP WITH CM PUNK". This is why it stuns me that so many people here on a week in and week out basis read the news bits that get posted and believe so many of them. Not because the initial and real reports weren't true (if it's from PWI or Meltzer there's a better chance than not that it is), but because once it reaches the message boards and it gets spun through that cycle, it's not even close to what it originally was when it was true.

I really hope this is newz If not, I really hope the WWE decide to stick with Punk and give him a chance, maybe feuding him with somebody other than Miz and ADR who frankly, I lost interest in months ago and if I (who was a big fan of Miz and ADR) lost interest in them then surely a lot of other fans have as well.

Do TV ratings really matter anymore? How can they add delayed viewings (DVRs, youtube etc) to the numbers?

can we get some ratings numbers from before Punk's reign for comparison? And I know some people consider this an excuse, but the Monday Night Football game this past week was a big game(Steelers vs. 49ers, both teams with large national fanbases and both teams had 10-3 records going into it), and was delayed due to a power outage, putting it on at the exact time as RAW in most markets. Maybe, but Raw also had terrible ratings going up against a Chargers-Jaguars game the week before. MNF is only really a factor at the beginning of the season.

Wrestling news sites don't have the sources they used to. Reposts and sketchy rumors with opinionated slant, pervaded because site contributors and those who run sites know they can troll internet fans by posting stuff like this they know will draw heat and get views once forums like this one, start spreading the story or headline. Judge what you read by what you see. Wait and watch if they pull the belt off of him. Then wait and watch to see if he stays in the main event/title picture. If he drops it and dosnt go near it again than the story had legs.

I never got why wrestling companies are focused only on instant gratification. They were drawing craptastic ratings in 1996, just before one of the most profitable times in WWE history. Hotshotting the belt back onto Cena for no goddamned reason won't do a damn thing except bring back the status quo.

God forbid they would hotshot some interesting and credible heels instead of shoving a poor version of Chris Jericho, and a poorer version of JBL down the fans collective throats.

Cable ratings are a dying thing. Not alot people watch live TV anymore. With DVR's, YouTube, streaming websites, hulu, and the fact Nielsen only does cable boxes when many people have satellites, it's pointless. Plus CM Punk isn't the most interesting thing right now. John Cena possibly turning heel and Kane with mask on is by far the most interesting thing right now and something that many people wanted to see for years.
