I do not believe F4WOnline.com has a SINGLE "inside source" privy to the WWE's brass's opinions about anything. Discrediting a tenth-rate gossip monger like Daniel Pena is one thing. But Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer newsletter has been around for nearly 30 years and he has many sources within WWE. And has at various points been in direct contact with Vince McMahon himself. He's been credited by Bret Hart and Mick Foley, and Sports Illustrated senior writer Frank Deford has praised Meltzer's work, saying that "Meltzer, I believe, is the most accomplished reporter in sports journalism." People who think he just makes random crap up are likely going by the many false news reports that are often wrongly attributed to him. Be that as this may, this didn't come from Meltzer. All Meltzer said was that the main event was a disaster ratings-wise. I trust Carless has a subscription or listened to the report, and that'd mean everything else beyond the fact that the rating was bad came straight from Pena. So I think it's safe to disregard.

It sounds like Meltzer made an observation based on data and then F4WOnline.com took that and made up the rest. F4WOnline.com is Meltzer's website (along with Bryan Alvarez). Wrestlenewz, com and LordsofPain are the newz sites that wrongly attribute news items to him.

Yeah, F4W and Wrestling Observer merged a few years ago. What used to happen is that during an Observer Radio show, either Bryan or Dave would speculate something, which would then be taken by the lesser NEWZ sites as truth, and they'd spin it out of proportion. At least that tended to be the case when I subscribed to it. Can't stand Meltzer or Alvarez these days, frankly. Vinny sometimes still sounded like he might still be a fan though.

Football Season is all but over. Tonight is 2 teams that already locked in playoff berths so they can phone it in. Punks feuding with the played out Alberto and predictable Miz. Creative on Raw does not seem to have any direction, its about 1% effort on this Cena storyline, 10% on the Kane storyline, lets toss the Twins on the show, and have K2 match and a Santino segment. Punk vs MJLTevpotr&IGMOMNR is not as compelling as Stone Cold vs Mcmahon first of all TEVPOTR has not garnered hatred from the fans. They just give him go away boos and move on. Mr Mcmahon WAS the owner of WWE and could not afford to fire Stone Cold so the storylines where rooted very much in reality.

You know, Austin's rise to popularity was the shits in terms of ratings, WCW still kicked the WWE's ass back then.
It took WCW advertising Cactus Jack winning the world title for the Monday Night Wars to really shift WWE's way.
I'm sure they'll give it some time.

Nah, not really true. WWF was more or less beating WCW a lot of the time in the 2nd half of 1998. The GB/Hogan show did a big rating and the time where WCW aired GB/DDP on free TV gave WCW a cheap ratings win, but more or less the WWF had the advantage in the 2nd half of 1998.
Anyway who cares about ratings right now anyway? It was a lame duck show the week after a PPV and right before Christmas. I don't know what Punk's segments are doing off hand but is it shocking that people might tune out that aren't hardcore internet fans? That and guys such as Miz and Del Rio are totally buried at this point.

Austin winning the WWF title almost immediately won the ratings war for the WWF. Things were back-and-forth until the Foley diss scuttled WCW for good.
Punk is still underwhelming once he no longer has a machine to rage against. His greatest similarity to Austin is that he's much more interesting when he's fighting his way to the top than being there.
Really though, the WWE needs to change a lot to win back the ratings. Just sticking the belt on Punk, or anyone else, isn't enough.
