So were gonna make a million excuses for Punk and blame this on everybody else?

So were gonna make a million excuses for Punk and blame this on everybody else? No, we're going to discard it because it's Daniel Pena, who has admitted in the past to making up whatever he thought would get the most hits. He fabricated a story about how Victoria was having an affair with Chris Benoit and insinuated that that led to the argument that caused the whole Benoit tragedy. Dude doesn't deserve to have anything he posts considered credible.

There were 5 other people in that main event.

So were gonna make a million excuses for Punk and blame this on everybody else? Blame what? A quote that twists Dave Meltzer's words and presents them as news?

This is the definition of smark bait. It's a guy who's very popular on message boards, they can back up this story with SOME kind of data (even if it's soft, pretty meaningless data), and it will cause wrestling message board posters to link to their site, people will get riled up and visit the site, big web traffic, mission accomplished.
I do not believe F4WOnline.com has a SINGLE "inside source" privy to the WWE's brass's opinions about anything.

So what.
And in fairness, Punk was booked awfully over the fall, and then just got the belt out of nowhere at Survivor Series against a guy that has been crucified by shitty stop/start booking all year.
And Punk has only been champion for a month, they have to give him time. They cant expect immediate results. Personally, I think the writers are more ratings poison than ANY wrestler on the roster.

So were gonna make a million excuses for Punk and blame this on everybody else? The guy that wrote it(Daniel Pena) is known for making crap up as he goes. So no, we're not making excuses, we're calling out a bull**** article.

I dunno. Could it just be that Punk isn't defending against anyone worthwhile? His feud with Johnny Ace isn't enough to carry the show. Even my non wrestling fan wife says Punk looks good and speaks really really well. So, that's not my smark bias talking.

A Punk/Ziggler feud for the title would pique some interest, I'm pretty sure of that.

Don't explain the story then about the disappointment, but you can't deny the fact that the ratings for the main event were awful. Everything that applies to all of the other bad ratings applies here, meaning all of you who post 300 excuses the WWE comes up with to explain bad ratings should also be saying that these people aren't drawing. But what it looks like here is Punk, Bryan, and Ryder getting free passes because they're new and liked. Miz didn't draw these ratings in 2010, Sheamus didn't draw these ratings in 2010, etc.
I still like Punk and want him in the main event picture, I still like Bryan and Ryder, but all of them as champion at once may not be the best idea.

Speaking for myself, if the ratings were the exact same with Cena, Orton, and Triple H in the main event, I'd still call bull once I saw the source.

I was so hoping this was true but I knew it wasn't since WWE hasn't taken the title off people who drew bad ratings in the past and they are giving him the Superman push at the moment.

I do not believe F4WOnline.com has a SINGLE "inside source" privy to the WWE's brass's opinions about anything. Discrediting a tenth-rate gossip monger like Daniel Pena is one thing. But Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer newsletter has been around for nearly 30 years and he has many sources within WWE. And has at various points been in direct contact with Vince McMahon himself. He's been credited by Bret Hart and Mick Foley, and Sports Illustrated senior writer Frank Deford has praised Meltzer's work, saying that "Meltzer, I believe, is the most accomplished reporter in sports journalism." People who think he just makes random crap up are likely going by the many false news reports that are often wrongly attributed to him.

Meltzer is actually pretty credible and has been a "dirt-sheet writer" longer than some of us have been alive. It's all the other dirt sheet writers that just loosely quote him and pass it off as news that you have to watch out for.

Newz. If they were going to take the belt on him, you know, they'd kinda set up someone to take the belt off him, and the heels do nothing but job. I do think they will find a way to get it to Cena eventually, though
btw, the segments that happened beforehand were absolute death. throwing the Usos/Primo & Co out there in football season is well...
you would kinda consider it suicidal.

I might have missed something in the last 6 pages but has anyone confirmed that Meltzer actually said that the WWE was talking about taking the title off of him because of the ratings breakdown? It sounds like Meltzer made an observation based on data and then F4WOnline.com took that and made up the rest.

News: Dave Meltzer reports that the brass is disappointed in the main event's ratings, which were abysmal. Newz: The dirtsheets report that the brass is disappointed in Punk and are considering taking the title off of him.
