If it's his dream, I hope he succeeds. His dad did enough damage to his life as it is. He shouldn't cost him his love of wrestling, too. If i ever attend an event one day and he even has a dark match, he gets a standing ovation from me.

I'm rooting for this guy. His father's actions should not hinder him from going after his dream.

Who's to say he won't be stigmatized otherwise? He still has "Benoit" as his last name and as far as I know , his father is the most notable figure with that name. Maybe David's middle name IS Chris. All I know is that even if he weren't related to Chris Benoit, but coincidentally still had the same last name, people's thoughts would immediately go to the guy who killed his wife and child before becoming an hero. Everyone would go, "Your last name's Benoit? Like the wrestler who killed his family amirite?" If he went to college he'd probably be shunned and tormented on campus with eyes looking at him every day. Same thing would happen if he got a "real job". I'm not saying he shouldn't go to college and get a job, but the kid is probably screwed either way At least people in the business might be a bit more understanding. Eh, the name hangs over him, but at least if he became a manager or a plumber or whatever, it wouldn't be constantly brought up. There's no reason he, or his sister, can't have normal lives. Benoit wasn't as famous as OJ, or anything like that. If he gets into wrestling, he's NEVER be allowed to forget who his old man was. Never. Regardless of whether or not he gets into wrestling, he's never going to forget who his father was.

I could see it working. In reality if WWE didn't mind him cutting a single face promo talking about his dad and how he's sorry about what happened etc etc blah blah in it to win it, I think it would go over fine

"Hey, this is really cool, he's out there and trying to move on lets cheer". Would just take a promo so everyone would feel alright about it imo.

I wouldn't want him anywhere near WWE. Too much of a deadringer of his dad you know, I don't see the resemblance at all.

Like some others have said, I am honestly shocked he wants anything to do with the wrestling business. If I were in his position, I'd distance myself as far away as humanly possible. Reminds me of Lacey Von Erich deciding to get into wrestling despite the fact the business played a significant part in the deaths of her dad and four of his brothers. two of her cousins are currently wrestlers, too.

I see people bringing up other families as a reason why this dude could succeed. ...Really? Does it REALLY need to be said that the Benoit incident was, by far and away, the most horrific incident to happen within the wrestling business and received the most negative publicity from the media? Using examples here doesn't work. Benoit is on a whole 'nother level.

Only if he gives me a 5-star match. Maybe even a four-star match.
Okay, hell, even a 3-star match. If he has the technical prowess his dad had, his 3-star matches would be better than a lot of the roster's GOOD matches.

First of all, we don't even know if the guys gonna make it through training, or be able to break in, or continue to get bookings, or even be good enough to warrant being looked at by WWE in the first place regardless of his bloodline. If that happens though, it'd be really interesting to see what would happen there.

I would say the odds of him getting a fair shot in a major promotion would be against him. Then again, the odds of him surviving having Chris Benoit as a father weren't great either, and yet here he is.

Okay, to undercut my earlier point I just came up with a gimmick for him if he ever gets to the WWE. He looks almost exactly like his father, give him a pair of tights that look like the type his dad wore and give him the the same entrance as Gangrel, minus the blood spitting. I should not be admitting this, but I laughed.

I'm all for it, but I'm also in the camp that we've been doing the wrong thing by brushing the Chris Benoit incident under the rug and not discussing it all these years, so I'm likely going to be ignored.

Well according to Jericho, David always loved pro wrestling so let him do his thing. I'm sure having lived the last 6 years knowing his dad killed his stepmom, brother, and himself he understands that him entering the world of wrestling could cause a stir.
Also sounds like he's always been incredibly close to Y2J (Jericho even called David after the incident happened) so I'm sure Jericho will take care of him.

I believe he can overcome the stigma, but only if he really shines and is among Punk and Cena in popularity. If he is a mediocre wrestler, it could much, much worse for him than what a regular mediocre wrestler would experience.

This makes me uncomfortable. He barely looks healthy in OP's pic, let alone look like a pro wrestler. I'm interested to see where this goes though. I'm sure some promoters would love to book him while some would stay far far away. If I were a betting man, I would think he ends up in a life of drugs and obscurity, but hell I wish him the best. That kid has got it tough living in his father's shadow.

If he wants to wrestle, so be it. If anything, you'd think he'd be more aware of the risks involved.
That being said, he'll probably never end up in the WWE. Even with a changed name, no reference to his father, or anything it'll still come out in the media that WWE Superstar XYZ is the son of Chris Benoit aka the guy that killed his family and himself. He wouldn't be worth that headache.
Japan? Mexico? Sure!
