How do we know this isn't just going to turn out to be Mason Ryan with a haircut? This was my first thought, admittedly.

Batista drew at least twice as much money as Punk ever has. Yeah, I don't know if revisionism is setting in already or what but Batista was a HUGE star when he was around. WWE doesn't need to put embellish anything. Batista's career is mostly a blur to me, and I honestly don't think he'd be all that memorable if not for the Photoshop threads, basketball jokes, etc., which like I said, would be good material for a guy like Punk to rip on. But...that's not true. Batista has drawn way more money than Punk. Granted, that's because Batista had a longer stint on top but facts are still fact. Memes or not, he still is one of the biggest names to come out of this era. Hell, I would even go as far to say as he's the second biggest name behind Cena. Punk ripping on Batista for that would just be dumb and be more "wink-wink internet" bullshit that does nothing for feuds. If they do interact with each other, Punk would be far better off tearing into Batista for leaving to do MMA.

When I say make Batista out to be bigger than he was, I mean I have no interest in WWE trying to give him Rock/Brock demigod status when he's nowhere near THEIR level either. I'd say he's easily on Brocks level.

Here's why I'm not interested (as cool as it is to see a big star return) - he'd be playing a face, in all likelihood.

For a few years now, I've been sorta waiting to see what will happen if/when Batista returns, because it's going to say a lot about the modern era of WWE. Batista was built up as one of the biggest stars of this generation, and now that he's had a few years off... will he be a name who can actually be promoted in a big "whoa, BATISTA's back!" sense like Brock or Rock, or will he be on the Jericho/RVD level where he gets good pops and seeing him is nice, but doesn't really do much for the bottom line?

I'd say more so RVD/Jericho.

This better be true. I only beg that they let him keep his douche persona. I don't care if he's a face.

This is what I'm mainly saying. I'm not denying that Batista was big in his prime. I know he was hugely over. I just don't think he warrants the Brock/Rock treatment, but I'm worried that WWE will try to force it, if only because he's dabbled in MMA and acting.

The thing is, if Batista isn't above the Jericho tier... WWE's whole business strategy of recent years of relying on big name part-timers from past eras to spike profits around Wrestlemania season and a few other times over the year is really going to start falling apart in not that long... if Batista's return can't draw, bringing back post-retirement Orton and Punk for special appearances sure as hell can't either. Which leaves Cena as the only plausible candidate for a bankable star from the modern generation.
And that's really sad, that no one else of this generation managed to come close to that level.

Can I use this as an excuse to rewatch his HIAC match with Hunter at Vengeance? That match was amazing.

If he doesn't return with Rocket Raccoon and Groot, we really do need to riot.

I think the highest reason why people don't think that he wad a big deal was that he spent most of his time as a main eventer on Smackdown. However say what you will about Undertaker and even Edge, but from 2005-2009, Smackdown was Batista's show.
Frankly, I cant wait for him to come back.

I could see Daniel Bryan vs. Batista as a real match-up. Or, if they decide to go that route, Big E Langston vs. Batista.

I think somewhere in between. I agree. He's not on Rock's level as a star, maybe 3 other wrestlers are all time. Lesnar was UFC Heavyweight Champ at that company/sport's peak in popularity. RVD and Jericho are nostalgia type acts that have been around since the mid 90s and had their best days 10 years ago, they appeal to fans that have been around since then. Batista is fresh enough in peoples' minds and more relevant to the newer generation of fans. I think his return would make a bigger impact than those two. But I don't see it being on Lesnar's level, and especially not Rock's.
