Urghhh a home tie and not even a fun one. Nevermind. Bit harsh on Brighton that! Na I wasn't exactly excited by that tie either.

Looking forward to the game tonight, though I'm usually set on a Friday night as they usually have a league game on anyway
Itching to have a bet but need at least 6 games to have been played for some form

Douglas Costa is looking like one hell of a signing for Bayern. His midfield work was beautiful(including a beautiful banana cross to allow Müller to send it home), and a nice goal of his own in the 87th minute. Other significant contributions from Müller, Lewandowski, and Benatia allowed for a nice 5-0 victory over Hamburger SV. Yes, they've not been much completion over the past few years for the Bavarians but, it's always nice to start out the Bundesliga season in style.
Not long after that, we learned that Pep's side will travel to Wolfsburg to play the second round of the DFB Pokal in October. Holy shit. That's a hell of a draw for the second round. Hopefully, De Bruyne will have already gotten comfortable in Manchester by then to make things a tad easier. They've been a massive pain in the ass for a while. A win would make for a fairly easy stroll to the cup finals.

Watched the Sunderland game in the company of a Sunderland fan this afternoon. Even though I don't support them it was depressing viewing, they looked completely shot of confidence right from the start.
I really struggle to see who will provide them with the quality they need to stay up, the team is primarily made up of workmanlike players who don't even appear to be putting in the effort (something which Norwich have no problem doing!). They've got massive problems.

Advocaat should have quit while he was ahead. He would have been praised as the man who saved Sunderland last season.
At this rate, he'll be sacked before Christmas.

Has there been a consistently worse Premier League team than Sunderland over the last five years? Even the teams that have gone down and came back up seem to do better than them at one stage or another.

In other Premier League news of the day, Stoke City erased a 2-0 deficit after halftime to pull off a draw against Tottenham Hotspur.
Looks like it could be a fairly long season for Spurs fans as well.
Also, after their stunning draw against Chelsea, Swansea City took a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United.
Finally, in their first game since nearly being relegated in one of last season's biggest headscratchers , Borussia Dortmund got things rolling in style by taking out Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0.

If I wanted to watch a team phone it in after a half, I'll watch an NBA game. (I'm looking at you, Newcastle United.)

Aston Villa since O'Neill left have generally been dire too.

It's never been dull, but we're bad and no one seems to know how to fix it. Everyone's all "spend money" but we always spend money and it hasn't worked. Sure, a lot of money hasn't been spent wisely, but there have been some fairly big signings for a team like ours - Johnson, Rodwell, Kaboul, M'Vila, Defoe, Alvarez. World beaters, no, but coups for a team like ours. Hasn't done anything. We're bad at the core.

I put a curse on Chelsea today for the way Mourinho treated his club doctor.

Aston Villa since O'Neill left have generally been dire too. I guess Wigan at least tried to play a brand of football pleasing on the eye under Martinez...often to their detriment but at least they were nice to watch (and they had some FA Cup glory) It must have been soul destroying to be a season ticket holder at Villa during the days of McCleish and Lambert.
