Resident Evil 4. I think the controls/aiming is horrendous compared to earlier and later games. I have to differ on one particular version: the Wii Edition. People may laugh and/or bitch about motion controls all they want but that game was improved by them, just by allowing you to use the wiimote to aim directly (and in a relatively precise manner).

Many classic point and click adventure games are completely indecipherable. I think the early Telltale games had the best balance of puzzles/just being a visual novel.
Any early 3rd person 3D game with "tank controls" for human characters. Tomb Raider is probably the most obvious.
I recently played Doom 3 BFG Edition and although the gameplay was ok and the graphics were ok, the cutscenes looked extremely amateourish. I mean like somethin Jim Sterling would make a video of today.

All of the pre-Deadly Alliance Mortal Kombat games. They were fun at the time, but they're so badly broken that trying to go from MKX to MK 1-4 is like going from a computer to a rock and chisel.

Oh god The AI in MK2/3 does things that a human player cannot do, I get it in the Arcades but on Home consoles that's just unforgivable

I remember I loved Dead To Rights back in 2003. I bought it months after I had rented it. Of course, it was only about four or five years later that I saw how repetitive the game really was. well even at the time it was a pretty shallow rip off of Max Payne A lot of the game is still fine, but damn Mario 64's camera sticks out as outright counter-intuitive to the experience. Yeah, at the time it was fine but now it takes a hell of a lot to get used to again. . Many classic point and click adventure games are completely indecipherable. I think the early Telltale games had the best balance of puzzles/just being a visual novel.. They were mostly indecipherable at the time too... that was generally how they extend teh play time on them/made money off of tip lines

The Sonic Adventure games have not held up at all; the Sonic stages in 2 are still well designed and fun but the Sonic stages in 1 have serious speed problems and camera control issues. Meanwhile the less said about all other characters in each game the better.

GTA III. Shooting is so awkward.
Mortal Kombat 1. I remember everything you did being really delayed.

For me, it'd be something like Red Faction. Blowing through walls, etc, was novel and all, but the rest of it can be a real slog now.

If not all then definetly a majority of the n64-ps1 era especially graphically.

Having just played through it, Mass Effect. Still a good game when you just consider the primary campaign missions, but the busted item management system, the boring world exploration, and all side-mission buildings being literally the same layout with minor cosmetic differences really take the shine off.

Super Mario Land 1 for the Game Boy. The controls and the weird physics make the game a pain to play. It's just a weird bloody game. It's like the USSR had devised an alt-world Mario Bros series.

The first Dragon Warrior (Dragon Quest?) game. Really didn't like all the menus popping up every time you wanted to do anything, the repetitive music, slow messages, ect. Not very fun any more. Dragon Warrior was a game that I had plenty of fun with (it was my first RPG), but which left giant boot prints behind for how badly it beat my ass in at times. The fact that there was only one place to save, that some of the monsters were utter bastards even when you were decently leveled (the walk from Tintagel Castle to that town in the far south, guarded by the Golem, is one I had to make about... ten times, most of which were because I'd run into something that would just curbstomp me), and... yeah, needing to open a menu to go up or down stairs was kinda annoying. But I still remember having fun at times. Now, Dragon Quest 3? If I knew where my copy of the GBC version was, I'd gladly give that another go.

My personal favorite is Dragon Warrior 4, where you have to play as a few different characters before you play as the main hero. It's just fun going through their stories and learning new skills. The overweight store keep guy was especially fun, IMO. I also had a fondness for "Healie" the heal monster that wants to be human.

FF9 felt very dated, slow and dull when I last played it. Oddly though I found FF7 held up well.
I think because 7 moves quite quickly at the beginning whereas 9 starts off slow and boring.

replaying it from the start at the moment, holy crap Spyro: Year Of The Dragon is not this awesome game I remember it being when I was a kid. it gets mega frustrating when the camera keeps shifting around on you as you are trying to do stuff, controls not working properly, and quite a few border unfair levels...mainly that stupid Tank Blast 2 egg!!
