I really don't even understand what exactly the selling point of Carnage is when you've already had other symbiote villains. "Oh yeah, you already fought THESE murderous piles of space goo, but THIS ONE was already a serial killer! Ooooooh, scary!"
In general that's one trend I would really like to see die in superhero movies, always defaulting to villains that are just the evil version of the hero especially within the first movie. It's just so damn tired.

And even though it’ll probably do good this weekend, the second weekend drop is going to be painful and that will probably hurt it’s chances. Not to mention the slate for the next few weeks. Along with A Star is Born, you have First Man and Bad Times at the El Royale next week, and the. You have Halloween ‘18 in two weeks. This movie is f***ed. Halloweens gonna make a buttload of cash. Yeah, it has a good chance of becoming the highest grossing slasher movie here in the US. And most definitely will be the highest grossing in the series...in its FIRST WEEKEND alone.

As a huge Venom fan it's weird how they are back tracking on his original origin story as Eddie is no longer the first person to wear the suit and what we know is wrong about Venom

Early buzz for Halloween '18 has been good. I'm kinda excited. Yep. Early reviews are kind of fantastic. I had very low hopes and now I want to see it. Venom was always destined for failure but a large part of the demographic is about to go for a quality film.

100 million plus who knows how much for advertising and shit. They are advertising a lot so that's another 100 million most likely. So they gotta make over 400 million at the box office to turn a profit it seems. For those wondering about how to crunch numbers for box office, the lads at RedLetterMedia did a video about it: Basically depending on a movie (it applies more to blockbuster films) it may need to make back double it's budget at least to be successful due to advertising and other things. There are excepts to the rule of course.

Given Sony's usual incompetence with marketing and money management, like how Amazing Spider-Man 2 hemorrhaged money despite being a success because of Sony's ludicrously high expectations of it, I'm thinking regardless of what this thing brings in, it's losing money. Which I feel like they knew in making it and were hoping it'd just kick off a series of more successful movies in its wake but of course, 1), the movie has absolutely shit word of mouth so far so that's not happening, and 2), absolutely no one but Marvel has made the shared universe thing work so far and someone in the industry desperately needs to realize this already.

The biggest problem with everyone else universe is the fact they are unwilling to take things slow and let it build. You're not going to get a great return 2 movies in rushing story lines. Got to let shit happen
Of course you have things like the Dark Universe that gets scrapped because those movies weren't all that appealing
However, the monster universe is low key doing okay with the upcoming Godzilla movie and then Godzilla vs King Kong after

$100 Million and probably add another $100M for advertising and shit
Either way if I had to guess they need to double whatever they put out for them to consider it a success

I'll be shocked if the second weekend drop is anything under 60%

Saw it tonight and I'm not allowed to speak about the movie itself until Fridaybut I will share this:
as awful as the new Eminem song in the credits is, the new Run the Jewels song is stellar

Just got done. I enjoyed the movie. Nothing groundbreaking. But also not a bad movie either. Theater cut off the second after credits so missed that. Some of the venom stunts were pretty neat. Some of the lines were cheesy. Also felt like they forced in some of the dialogue to make it “funny?” The best thing is {Spoiler} gone is the “sym bye oat” and it is now pronounced correctly throughout.

Killer Mike and El P are like Venom they compliment each other so well its scary

Saw it last night. It's not a good movie by any means but Tom Hardy gives a performance worthy of Nic Cage.
