I liked Justice League. It's obviously not on the level of The Avengers, but I it still entertained me. So, does that I mean I will probably be entertained by this? I was kind of looking forward to it, but now I'm probably just going to wait until it comes out on Blu-ray. Nah, I liked Justice League well enough. Wait for Netflix on this.

Now looking like it's going to do 70-80 million for the weekend Once again proving that critic scores don't affect these types of movies, which makes the outrage that always happens when a group of fans disagree with the critics all the more baffling. Word-of-mouth is king, so the second week drop is always the figure to take notice of.

For what's it worth it got a B+ on Cinemascore and 89% Audience Score on RT so make that of what you will

I haven't seen the movie yet but.. I'm wondering if maybe they shouldn't have just blown their load and have Carnage in the first film as the antagonist to juxtapose Eddie with Cletus. Cause with the reviews coming in negative (as expected) this comes down to the money if we ever even get to see Carnage. Absolutely {Spoiler}Riot did Carnage's whole deal---forming weapons, shooting pieces of himself as weapons etc. The only difference was he was boring as f*** while doing it. But if/when they do Carnage now, it'll be the same thing we saw here, 'cept red. Woody could play Kasady well (though the wig in the post credits is just laughable), but there's nothing the symbiote will do we haven't seen here. Then again, I've always kinda thought Carnage sucked anyway. But yeah, if they were gonna do two CGI symbiotes battling anyway, might as well have.

To be fair, it's rare to see a low CinemaScore rating for a franchise picture, as the people being asked to grade the movies are in the opening weekend, when the people going to view the movie are the ones most likely to enjoy them. For example, despite being utter garbage, all of the Transformers movies highly - A for the first and Dark of the Moon, B+ for Revenge of the Fallen and Last Knight, and B- for Age of Extinction - because the only people seeing those movies in the first weekend are people who are already on board with what's being presented.

That's true, and like you said with the Transformers movies people seem to like em. I've given up trying to predict what your general audiences will enjoy. That's not a knock either, people can like what they like.

Sorry on phone so having hard time searching old post, but just saw it and Tom dancing in the street wasn't in it. So was it cut from the movie or just a troll job? I mean I saw the gif so just wondering.
But yea, it wasn't as great I thought it would be. It was fine for a first movie if they continue to make it a franchise. Couple things, was Venom supposed to have "Spidey Sense" of something? Like when the bad guys first come to Harry's apartment, how did Venom know they were there before they knocked?
And two, the kissing Venom/Hardy scene toward the end was just goofy.

So I just got back from this.
I didn't hate it....but man, it's a silly ass movie. It doesn't know whether to be a grimdark superhero movie or a goofy romantic comedy.

One of the things Tom probably wanted to keep in but they took out

I didn’t hate it, but I certainly didn’t love it. There were some good things and I’m excited for THA future, for sure.
I could focus on the negatives, but at the end of the day...Venom got a movie and it wasn’t completely horrible. So, while I’m not 100% pleased, I also think it’s pretty cool that it happened.

Also, as bad as this movie is, the Eminem song is even worse. Movie is shit, song is shit.

I didn't get the boring feeling, but I felt like in 2018 the movie at best is average and no where near the marvel standard. It's funny because it felt like Josh Trank tried body horror with FANT4STIC when Venom would have been perfect for that. Looking at box office totals I'm probably wrong on this, but I was feeling like it's like Amazing Spider-man 2. Not a box office failure, but below audience and critics expectations. If this does well look out though, because then we get the black cat, silver sable, etc. Sony spin offs I think a lot of us have been dreading.

Predictions were for it to score around $60 million, so it definitely surpassed expectations. Amazing Spider-Man 2 had a budget more than twice that of Venom and was the franchise of one of the biggest comic book characters of all time. Expectations were much lower for this one. Venom should end up being a solid little hit, so the dream of getting all the Spidey characters in the MCU will definitely be on hold for a bit.

According to the numbers in the Sony hack, ASM2 cost $255 million to make and another $315 million to market and distribute. They expected it to make a full billion at the box office, but it only crept past $700 million, resulting in less that $70 million profit. With Venom they wisely kept the total cost under $200 million ($100 million production, around $95 million marketing and distribution), so they're looking for at least $500 million to really be satisfied with its performance.

Saw it yesterday with my boyfriend and friends, knowing about the low ratings going in.
Surprisingly enough, I had myself a perfectly good time with this film. Believe me, it’s not good, and I know it. But as silly as it is, and as much as the earlier parts had me screaming internally “Eddie! This is NOT how journalism works!” I thought the action was good, the characterization of the symbiot worked well, and overall it was faithful enough. It was a perfectly entertaining, silly little action film which isn’t all that bad, in the end.
