Damn. I’m glad that he got on good terms with the WWE before he passed.
RIP Strongman.

Meltzer acting like a prat, shocker. And he couldn't have said this on another day? RIP Bruno, one of my early memories of him was attacking Randy Savage after he injured Ricky Steamboat's larynx which set up some matches between the two. My mother loved watching him perform.

I've always known he was a legend but, only recently have I learned and saw how important he was to the industry. He was the premier babyface. He was so liked and so sympathetic that all it took was for someone to give him one dirty look and they were the most hated person in the northeast. The crowd response to Larry Zybysko attacking Sammartino with the chair is spine-tingling. Especially the women screaming bloody murder. It helped he could put on the matches to give weight to his persona as well.
I think I speak for everyone when I say, thank the good lord he finally found peace with WWE later in life. He was too vital to the history of that company to be treated as some sort of embarrassment due to whatever personal issues he and Vince had. R.I.P. Bruno.

In fairness to Meltzer, the rest of his feed has been all about dedication to Bruno. In fact he's hosting a show right now about him and I am sure he will publish a more in-depth and articulate article/tribute to the life of Sammartino.
That said it was the wrong time to tweet that and the internet will zero in on that and only that. But it's Dave's fault for opening himself up to that sort of criticism.

My favorite Bruno story is when he looked embarrassed in a restaurant while a drunken Captain Lou Albano started calling the McMahons "no good motherf***ers" in front of Vince Sr and Jr.

Can we stop talking about Meltzer, who cares? This is a thread to remember one of the greatest ever. Don´t disrespect this with your Meltzer rants.
I remember one night a couple of years ago where I thought about the old school legends who truly made this industry what it is in all of the regions in this world. Reading Sammartino´s story is truly one of the greatest of all time in wrestling with guys like El Santo and Rikidozan. They achieved something that is truly remarkable to this day and that is being a figure of respect for everyone that watched them perform. His Story and the people that he influenced will always remain, even long after we are also gone from this earth. I doubt that WWE would be what it is today without Bruno as the main draw back then. His childhood story and being a weight lifting inspiration are also adding to his legacy. People like Arnold Schwarzenegger etc. said that he was a big inspiration.
I wasn´t sad when I read the news about his death a couple of hours ago. He had one of the greatest lives that a man can want. As Vince said, he was the best example that you can achieve anything...if you put in the work.

He was ending his career with WWF just as I started watching, remember his thick accent on commentary as a little kid.
There was a great little story in Blassie's book about how some legit mobsters were ready to kill Blassie after he kicked Bruno in the balls at the Garden. Bruno just calmly told the Mob not to, he wanted Blassie for himself next month. And the gangsters immediately accepted that! That's a man who commanded respect.
Very sweet notices from Foley and Booker, saying that going into the Hall of Fame meant a lot but going in with Bruno made it even more special for them.

What else can I add to all of what's surely above? Well, when I was starting to watch my dad (also RIP) always talked about him of course. What's eerie is both HOFers we all thought would never work with WWE again are both gone. Quick, let's collect all the tears in our eyes and build a moat to protect Bret, stat. I support this idea.

Bruno got a nice "Happy Trails" shout-out on Pardon the Interruption. Kornheiser (New Yorker), Wilbon (huge wrestling fan growing up) and Reali (Italian-American) all expressed how impressive Bruno's career was nicely.

Damn it. Uaually 82 is a nice long life, but for how good of shape and active he was this still feels too young and untimely
Glad I saw him get inducted into the HOF live. RIP to WWE's territory guy

I'm glad that Bruno left on his terms, he never diminished his own legacy or became a sad joke like Billy Graham, he also never begged money like Billy Graham, or defamed people like Billy Graham.
