Not really. The Bruno part of his name is because of Sammartino. His Father thought he resembled the wrestler and started calling him that because of it.

He was the champ of my childhood. I started watching wrestling in 1973 when I was eight years old. My grandmother was a huge wrestling fan and to Vittoria Camaratta Falcone, like so many Itallian immigrants of the time, the sun rose and set on "Saint Bruno." It was a running joke that it didn't matter who he was facing, his opponents name was "That Sonnamabitch". In 1980 my cousins took her toShea to see Bruno vs Zybisko. She was in her 80s at the time and still as feisty as ever. Tillthe day she died, that was the greatest moment of her life, when Bruno pinned "That Sunnamabitch".
I got to see him almost monthly in the eighties, during his last run, when I'd go to the house shows at the Brendan Byrne Arena. He always took the time, before or after the match, to stop outside "the tunnel" and chat with the fans. One time he even signed a birthday card for Grandma. A class act all the way.
RIP Champ, the legend lives on.

The meeting Bruno Mars is referencing ![http://borneobulletin.com.bn/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/PAGE-33-B-16P4_260817.jpg](http://borneobulletin.com.bn/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/PAGE-33-B-16P4_260817.jpg) He met him after his concert in Pittsburgh and tweeted about how cool it was meeting him

I know we're not supposed to mention Meltzer, but I really feel this isn't out of line. If you can get your hands on the latest Observer, I can't recommend it enough. Dave does a very interesting "Editors Note" detailing his personal experiences and relationship with Bruno before doing his regular, incredibly detailed obituary. I seriously recommend it to everyone.

Before there was Hogan, Dusty, Austin and others, there was Bruno. He is to wrestling during that era what Vince Lombardi was to Football

I'm really happy Bruno and WWE came to terms over the past 5 or so years. Bruno getting inducted at MSG in 2013, appearing at Wrestlemania and getting his name out there again, having a new action figure, and appearing on multiple Network shows like Table for 3, Legends w/ JBL, and a match collection where he was interviewed ensures he'll be remembered by people forever. Some of that stuff was shot just around a year or two ago, so it really is fortunate this all happened so recently before he passed away. I'd love to see a Photo Shoot with him, but I don't know if they ever got the chance. I'm sure it felt great for him to see a resurgence of his work and to be honored one last time before his passing.
Glad to hear a doc is on the way.

Just watched Bruno vs Stan Hansen from 1976. Felt like Bruno could get a monster pop by just taking a step, atmosphere was incredible and even though the match was simple he really did have an aura about him that comes across even today
On a side note, Vince was on commentary and I feel confident calling him the worst play by play guy of all time.

You know what would be cool? The Bruno MSG Invitational. A One Night Heavyweight Tournament in the Garden.

R.I.P. Bruno Sammartino, he was definitely the greatest champion that WWE will ever have. He was a one of a kind and there'll never be another professional wrestling star quite like him. In the professional wrestling world, the word "legend" gets thrown out there way too often. Bruno Sammartino was a true legend.
If a Mount Rushmore of WWE icons ever gets created, these four WWE icons should all be featured on it. 1. Andre the Giant 2. Bruno Sammartino 3. Hulk Hogan 4. Ric Flair
