Count among those fortunate enough to see him sellout the Garden one last time for the Hall of Fame.
When I got home after work today, I fired up a "Best of Bruno Sammartino" compilation that featured his best Japanese matches (none are on the network).
On it was "Sammartino vs. Brody" from 1981. A fancam from a time when home video cameras were exceedingly rare, it was one of those tape-trading *RARE* matches that became something of legend. With the picture quality of a snuff film, it just added to the mystique this thing carried. Seeing Brody drag Sammartino into the crowd and both getting weapons (!) involved was so surreal. It also speaks to Bruno's talents how his intelligent dignified strongman character managed to still translate and excel in a pure bedlam brawl.
I've found it here. It's a five minute sprint. Trust me, this rules.

Bruno Sammartino was the consummate brawler. I was so lucky to see him in action at MSG in singles matches against Roddy Piper and teaming up with Tito Santana versus Adrian Adonis and Randy Savage. These matches saw Bruno kicking so much ass. I was in attendance at the Theater at MSG when Bruno was the referee for the WCW world title rematch of Savage vs. Flair. I will never forget those good times.
I can't believe he's gone. R.I.P. Living Legend.

Meltzer acting like a prat, shocker. Meltzer being an insensitive dick. In other news, water is wet. Bruno out of anyone would of wanted the truth out there. According to the research its about 61, which is still an absolutely insane number that no one will ever get close to

Meltzer acting like a prat, shocker. I admit to laughing at the guy that said Bruno only has a three star death because it didnât happen at the Tokyo Dome.

Move on from the Meltzer stuff. This is neither the time, nor the place. Make a thread about it in Wrest or something, but stop it here.

I hope we get a similar 10 bell salute Monday. For all Bruno's done it would be appropriate. I am so glad he was able to make up with the WWE so future generations can experience his legendary carrer. R.I.P. to one of wrestling's true immortals.

As an Italian from Pittsburgh, Bruno was a god to my family. My great-grandfather lived and died by his matches in the 60's and early 70's, and died in his favorite chair watching Studio Wrestling. Bruno represented all of those Italians working in the steel mills, toiling away to put food on the table. Those guys worshiped Bruno. I saw him wrestle live at the Civic Arena several times as a child, sitting between my dad and grandpap. Memories I will cherish forever.
Finché non ci rincontreremo, campione.

According to my dad, my great grandparents refused to change their set from channel 11. They didn't want to miss "Bruno" and "The Maxwell House" (Lawrence Welk, which in those days was sponsored by Maxwell House). And I highly recommend the documentary KDKA did about Bruno a few years ago if you can find it. It's extremely well done.

That's some life he lead. His career was before my time, but thanks to PWI and the like I knew about his reigns, legacy and career. Sad news. Sleep well, Bruno.

Itâs âaâ prat đ Itâs a British term for somone being an idiot. Ie if you got a guy mucking around at work, you tell him to stop being a prat and to shut up and sit down. Next on the language list is to talk about using the Lou but we can do that for another thread.
