Didn't the whole 'Outta Nowhere' thing used to be for the Diamond Cutter? I remember WCW announcers making a huge deal about DDP being able to hit it from anywhere.

The Diamond Cutter did seem like it could come from out of nowhere. The RKO is pretty much limited to "guy jumping in Orton's direction."

Like the story was that DDP actually trained and worked on being able to hit it from any position in the ring. Where Randy's version seems to rely mostly on luck.

Yea DDP with the Diamond Cutter was built up big out of nowhere or how he could use different variations of it
I remember the match he had against The Giant (Big Show) was built on how DDP built up a variant of the Diamond Cutter to take down the Giant

Yeah they used the Diamond Cutter as an explanation of "Why is this jobber so damn good all of a sudden?". They would talk about how the Diamond Cutter had become DDPs equalizer and Tenay would talk about all the training he'd done to learn how to apply the Cutter from anywhere. It was pretty well done.

It was the almost perfect killshot. Rebound of the Ropes, off the Top Turnbuckle, from a Flapjack, counter from a suplex/suplex-like move, from a Powerbomb or a Razor's Edge. It wasn't IF, but HOW, Page was going to get his opponent.

I seem to remember ddp saying he liked how orton did the cutter.
out of the two I like ddp's version better, orton seems to have been marginalised into "jump at me and you eat an rko" compared to when he started hitting it randomly.

And, of course, the greatest Diamond Cutter of them all. ![](https://i.imgur.com/EYbHK7D.gif)

Which is fine imo Orton is meant to hit it from nowhere in which you can't jump from anything or give him a move he would counter to make it into an RKO. That's what makes Randy dangerous because he will hit it anywhere and everywhere DDP put the diamond cutter into his moveset to put guys away. He hit the diamond cutter differently than on CWs than he does on bigger opponents This is the best way you can take a finisher and make it effective 2 different ways

I still love the RKO it's just that the thread on counters made me think of how much I loved how creative DDP was with the Diamond Cutter.

Yea as I said the one thing you do notice is DDP used this an offensive maneuver and his character worked toward ways to keep adding ways to use it in his offense Orton is more of an on the fly guy. His build up is to always hit the RKO but the fact he can hit it from nowhere (pop up, off the ropes, chokeslam) makes his opponent weary Orton has more highlights but DDP is not far behind because that was a great thing for his matches

I can only imagine the insane Cutter Setups/Counters if DDP was wrestling today.

In addition to there being more ways to hit it, I honestly just like the look of the Diamond Cutter better. It always looked more impactful and like more of a match ender than the RKO. I kinda saw it as the true successor to Jake Roberts' DDT as the "outta nowhere" kill shot.

It did belong to DDP, and in years since (especially when Orton started using this variation of it) I'd say that "OUTTA NOWHERE!!" is an homage to Page, who IIRC had basically given Orton his blessing in running with the RKO.

DDP was better because He worked so hard on doing it from different ways. Orton is good but mostly greatly top spot of someone jumping at him.
