The second trailer looks so much better, it seems like Jim Carrey is still going to be the best thing about this movie, but he might not be the only good thing about the movie.

Worlds better and actually looks like a pretty good movie now. Regardless of how this movie turns out, I think that the studio deserves a ton of credit for taking the fan backlash from the first trailer to heart and actually taking steps to address the criticisms. |

The model looks infinitely better. It's got the actual iconic things that people associate with Sonic's design, and a bit of its own flair as well.
Jim Carrey as Robotnik is still the worst possible choice they could have made, and seems to fit into that same 'well, it was popular in the 90s' choice as the Gangsta's Paradise trailer, but that's harder to fix with CGI.

Like, the entire look was mandated from the start and was already on leaked promos and merchandise and all SEGA could do at the time is go "We don't like this but I guess if that's what you want...*shrug*" because they had literally no creative control. Which is why, and this needs to be said again, Nintendo got that down when agreeing to do their animated movie with Illumination. |

From what is being said online from people working in the film, there wasn’t any crunch work and the animators were allowed to take their time with it.
Which honestly makes me more relieved by all this.

Kudos to them for righting the ship. No matter the quality of the film itself, that actually looks the part that I'm assuming fans of the property wanted in the first place.
Here's hoping the animators were well compensated for having to fix things.
It's also all the more baffling why they didn't do this in the first place when clearly they could have rather than going with that ill-conceived first design. Just a waste of money and time it seems.

I don't like this new design. It's boring and inoffensive, which perfectly placates the Sonic fanbase. The old design was perfect, and as a result, I hope that they will keep a version of the movie alive in some capacity. "Release the Meow Cut".  |
