I've read your prior posts in this thread man, and I'm glad you kept the faith for the product when it looked like all had abandoned it, and that it actually led to a pay off where you feel good about it.

Just saw it. I'll keep it short since I'm doing a round table review on a friend's Youtube Channel (I'll likely post it here), but I will say it's not bad but it's not great. If your fear is that they screwed it up and got Sonic wrong, don't worry. They do him justice.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Big missed opportunity for Sonic to come across the Sonic drive-in restaurant. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} And have him meet those two douchebags that are always there?
I wouldn't wish that on Big The Cat. Ok, maybe Big.

Fair warning, photos and filmed footage of the after credits scene has started to leak online, so be careful if you don't want spoilers. It is already on YouTube via "leaked Sonic ending" if you're curious. Having watched it I'll say this: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}I shudder to think what Tails' would have looked like with the original Sonic design sensibilities. Well {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}considering he showed up in the sequel to the first Sonic game for Genesis, it only makes sense he’s teased for the sequel to this movie. Will we get Super Sonic and the chaos emeralds? Or will the damn kids complain similar the golden power up and seven magic orbs thing is too similar other Japanese franchise that came out around this time

Slight correction, 57 for the 3 day weekend and 68 for the 4 days.
Anyway, saw the movie on Friday and it was a ton of fun. It really surprised me. Glad it's doing well.

I had a lot of fun at the movies. In a lot of ways they played the movie very safe, but there was a lot of heart.
If/when they do a sequel I think you see more chances with some of the other characters.

It's nice to see that the studio is being rewarded for going back and fixing their bizarre choice on the fly, now other studios need to take a hint.
What people really want is to see the thing they love put on screen. Not a bastardization. Not a deconstruction. Take the thing, put it on screen. That's it.

{Spoiler}So the line about the Rock being president had me cracking up and I am also guessing the Mushroom world is a dig at Nintendo and the Mushroom Kingdom

I honestly can't picture anyone else but Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. Anyone else I feel wouldn't have been as charismatic or fun. He made it work in every way possible.

Saw this yesterday. Haven't been into Sonic since the Dreamcast days but I thought it was a lot of fun. Sonic as a character basically felt like a cross between a PG Deadpool and Days of Future Past/Apocalypse Quicksilver but Schwartz's performance made that characterization much more palatable than it otherwise could've been, similar to how Jim Carrey's Robotnik was basically just Jim Carrey with robots but was nonetheless charismatic and entertaining. Their performances are actually a good metaphor for the film as a whole. On paper it could've been really obnoxious and lousy, but instead it was charming, heartfelt, and actually pretty funny at times.

I'm guessing with how well it paid off with this movie that some studio or other is going to try doing the, "Put out a terrible initial design alongside a bad trailer, then improve the design alongside putting out better trailers," marketing approach on purpose within the next year or two.
Either way, yeah. I might go see this and Birds of Prey together maybe about Tuesday-ish.

I dunno, given Detective Pikachu went to the other side of the spectrum with "Designs that looked great the first time", I feel like studios might go that way. Then again, how many directors would have even bothered to admit the mistake and go back to fix it? So it goes both ways, I suppose.

I loved every second of this film! as a huge Sega fan back in the day I was hooked right away. Jim was amazing as Robotnik! I kind of wish though that they could have gotten Jaleel to play Crazy Carl as it would have worked pretty well with that characters main arc.
Also, for a future film, I would love if they got Jim Cummings to play a henchmen for Robotnik, have Jim dress him down and walk away and have Jim Cummings character utter under his breath "dont know who you are....I could do your job! and people would love it!" as he walks away.
