Well, that was thoroughly enjoyable. Not groundbreaking, but loved all the nods to the games, the characters felt genuine, and Sonic was well realised as part of this world. I do think that with the original design a lot of the cute factor would have been lost, so well done to the animators for doing such an amazing job in crunch getting the real thing in. {Spoiler}Interesting setup for a sequel, too. Tails is here and needs help from Sonic, Robotnik is crazier and out for revenge... And then there's the tribe at the beginning that drove Sonic from his world to begin with, that looked remarkably like Echidnas. I wonder if Robotnik could start world hopping, and encounter the last of that tribe, who have been wiped out in the interim?

Sonic was my fiancee's and my dinner and movie date, for Valentine's day. We had a blast!! And, I kind of want to see it again. Sonic and Tom were sweet, together.

I am wondering when do they intend on introducing the Chaos Emeralds/Super Sonic? We know the sequel will bring Tails and a returning Robotnik, guessing they're going to save it for the third film? It'd be interesting to see which direction they go with the film. One thing that needs to happen is Jim Carrey needs to be in the fat suit for Robotnik!

Here's me (Ethan) and some friends' detailed review of the movie. It's nearly 3 HOURS but the first half hour is spoiler free. There's a warning in the video before we start going into spoilers.

{Spoiler}The many times we saw Sonic powering up especially during the final fight with Robotnik. I thought it was very clever of them to foreshadow him becoming Super Sonic later in the sequels. Given the eventual return of Robotnik and Tails entering into the picture. Does Robotnik go to Sonic's world and brainwash Knuckles into joining him?

{Spoiler}Also I was very interested in hearing about yours and the audience reactions to Tails? When Tails showed up I immediately smiled and geeked out on the inside. Every single kid that I've seen either begins jumping for joy or clapping excitingly. Let's me know the popularity of Tails, now I can only imagine the reaction Knuckles and Shadow will get with their eventual debut.

Given the positive reception that this film is receiving. What's the likelihood of it reaching a billion if Russia, China, and Japan didn't have that coronavirus outbreak?

Agreed. Delaying it to fix that horrendous original design really paid off in more ways than one. It's gotten a big boost by being delayed until a dump month with almost no competition. Even the one movie that everybody expected to be competition - Birds of Prey - seems to have given it a boost by being rated R, effectively giving Sonic a monopoly of the younger demographic. The sequel should do gangbusters if they capitalise on the goodwill this movie's generated, and they don't get overconfident and open within spitting distance of a Marvel or Pixar movie.

This was well made and acted but boy was it a standard kid's movie with a fish out of water character. Plug anything:Smurfs, Yogi Bear, Snorks, whatever in place of Sonic and it's the exact same story wise. As such it's a pretty boring watch as an adult.
Nothing bad about it, just really paint by numbers.

The fact that it was strictly entertaining and a great family film was icing on the cake. The sequel can be for deeper exploration of the Sonic mythos, introducing new worlds, and characters. Right now I think the studio is happy with the box office numbers and positive word of mouth. As an adult myself I definitely wasn't bored with it. Growing up with Sonic and watching him on the big screen brought back all those nostalgic feelings.

It wasn't bad, certainly one of the better video game adaptations made. Liked the Lil green hill jingle at the end, and am looking forward to a hopefully more action packed sequel.

They didn't play Escape From the City during the San Francisco chase 0/10!
Nah in all seriousness it was a perfectly fine video game adaptation movie, the characters were likable, the plot while a bit cliche at times didn't drag and had some good emotional beats, the action scenes were fun and the Sonic redesign was a vast improvement.
The only real negatives were a few jokes that didn't land and there a bit too much repetitive exposition at points, but nothing to make me pop in my monocle and toss my brandy sifter down in disgust.
So it was good and with the film doing so well they have a firm foundation to improve even more in the sequel.
