By the title I thought this thread was going to be about celebs who underwent gender reassignment surgery and/or started identifying as another gender. I know one of the members of Jethro Tull also did this. Mark/Marcie Free of King Kobra as well. Lead singer of Life Of Agony as well. |

On the topic of Ariel Winter, and kind of going off track here, have there been any 90s child/teen actresses who DIDN'T end up as screw-ups, maniacs, etc. etc.? A lot of people point to Hilary Duff as someone who managed to not have a breakdown. Leo and JGL are my prime examples of kid actors who don't go apeshit. Johnny Depp's descent from consistently great actor with distinctive style and personality into eye roll worthy caricatured parody of himself happened so slowly, I didn't even notice. Those Kevin Smith movies aren’t helping. Speaking of which Kevin Smith. From talented director, screenwriter, actor, and producer of stoner movies to complete stoner himself making mind numbing crap. Working with Seth Rogen ruined him. I'm glad he's lost so much weight and fixed his diet after his heart attack but holy shit did weed stifle him creatively. |

Carlin is interesting, because his look change didn't come about organically, he had hired some talent agents who wanted him to appeal to a more hip crowd, so they booked him in smaller, hipper venues, he started growing his hair and beard out, dressed more casual, and he started sharpening his comedy to a point, resulting in the album AM/FM, which kind of represented the pivot in his style. |

Speaking of stand-up comedy, didnt Jeff Foxworthy start off as a rather vulgar comedian before he developed the whole "you might be a redneck" routine (though even that was gradual, even his first album has some sexual stuff like the "Single People have the best stories" routine).

Nicolas Cage was actually a respected actor and not a punchline who would star in anything. He's always been a punchline, though. Even at his height in the mid-to-late '90s he had the reputation of being one of the hammiest actors working. |

Bob Sagat from raunchy comedian to corny sitcom dad and then back to raunchy comedian.
Brian Wilson from drug riddled recluse who hated touring to sober musician who does about 50 shows per year.
Maya Angelou from little known singer to world renowned poet.
And maybe my favorite, Kurt Warner from college QB to stock boy to HOF enshrinement. That still boggles my mind.

Stephen Fry.
Went from being an intelligent and witty but very humble guy who blushed and balked when people called him a national treasure and did a lot to raise mainstream understanding of mental health issues to self righteous blowhard who believes he's an authority on everything and has been deeply obnoxious towards child abuse and sex crime victims among others. Real example of someone who bought into his own hype.
