Oh, how things change... From the Chicago Sun Times: Cabana, whose real name is Scott Colton, is suing UFC fighter CM Punk, whose real name is Phillip Jack Brooks, for breach of contract and fraud in Cook County Circuit Court. Cabana’s lawsuit contends Punk promised to help him out with the legal bills they amassed fighting the defamation lawsuit. Cabana claims Punk told him in a text that he would be “100% covered.” Punk has failed to keep that promise, leaving him with unpaid legal bills totaling $513,736, according to the lawsuit. Punk asked Cabana to pay half of the legal fees, which comes out to $256,868, saying “You are on your own.” Cabana is asking for $200,000 in general damages, along with $1 million in punitive and exemplary damages, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit claims “Brooks acted with fraud, malice and oppression toward Colton, with the deliberate intention of causing Colton harm.” chicago.suntimes.com/news/colt-cabana-cm-punk-contract-legal-fees-lawsuit/

Well, guess that answers whether or not they were no longer friends.
That's a total dick move on Punk's part. If your buddy needs financial help and you can cover it, you should have your buddy's back. He gave you the chance to speak your side of the story, which also dragged him into this situation, and this is how you pay him back?

Can't wait to see The Art of Wrestling Vlogcast on The WWE Network.

Well, this sucks.
I wonder how much of this is because of the split in legal teams in the time all this was dragged out.

Sucks for any friendship to sour, but I mean, Punk really did f*** Colt over from the sounds of things here.

If Punk really said that he would cover the costs, it's a massive dick move.
The asking for damages on top seems like a nasty, strategic move (get the extras wiped, but still need to pay the costs scenario). And also, confirms there is no way Punk is ever coming back to wrestling, as if there was any doubt.

Cabana is currently at the Edinburgh Fringe where even the successful comedians lose money. I wonder if he’ll sell more tickets based on this. Not saying that to be cyncical, just wondering.

Now Vince will bankroll Colt and hire him as an announcer lol
I don't get Cabana, he just lost a shit ton of money during the Amann trial, now he's gonna lose more on this trial.
I may be wrong but unless Colt has it on writing that Punk promised to pay for everything, Punk shouldn't be liable right?

And the evidence is a text message where Punk said he'd cover it. That's what is being tried,

Well I always wondered what would've happened if Marty Jannetty or Beefcake sued their more successful partners. Guess this is as close as it gets.

I guess that podcast Colt did with Bubba Ray kinda gave that impression that Punk/Cabana weren't as tight as they used to be, he practically had to drag the answer out of Colt asking if they were still friends after this.
If Punk gave his word he would cover his share of the costs and is backing out of it is a real shitty move on his part.

Sadly this happens in life when someone you considered a brother screws you over, I had it happen to me this year.

After Punk left WWE, we wrestling fans got all twitterpated over the inevitable podcast where we knew there'd be plenty of juicy bits and bobs. That interview lead to so much unexpected ugliness and negativity.
Half a million to defend himself against WWE's doctor... goodness.

Friendships in wrestling, ladies and gents. Eh, its friendships and money, that always sours in life. Im sure Punk had no idea what the trial was going to be nor cost when he sent that text. The lawyer fees were not $5k, $10k or even $50k. We are talking half a million dollars. Thats a lot of money. I don’t know if I would keep my word either.
