And that's both their fault for being so dumb in that regard. Punk for thinking this wasn't going to go so far and forgetting that Amann is on WWE payroll and they will pay for those expenses and dumb for Colt for getting talked into keeping the podcast up when WWE sent that letter. Punk being your friend or not, your ass is on the line too and the worst case scenario in regards to money lost happened Well Amann had no case to begin with and it never happened before that the wwe bankrolled an employee’s lawsuit just to f*** someone else, that being said, Cabana should’ve asked Punk to sign a contract promising to pay his legal fees. And the wwe never sent that letter, it was Amann, later Punk found out that the wwe bankrolled it. Amann as a doctor probably gets good money but not that much to keep a huge lawsuit going for almost four years. Still it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that someone on WWE payroll more than likely is not going to have to come out of pocket for these legal expenses
Also Amann had a case but a weak one and as I said with WWE behind him he was hardly going to lose out financially.
Yes, Cabana should have made Punk sign a contract but both of them in their "idiocy" were just in their feelings. Punk in his feelings about WWE and Colt in his feelings about Punk being his friend and looking out. Can you imagine if Colt came to Punk with a legal document saying bro you said this and I need you sign it. Punk would have immediately felt offended like you don't trust me to be a man of my word

Amann did have a case a weak one but he had one enough to make it to court. I disagree. His feelings were hurt because he was mocked by Mike Litoris in twitter, yes actually was brought up in the trial. Going through that whole sham did more damage to his credibility than anything Punk said about him. Because of that bullshit trial we learned that not only Amann shared Punk’s medical information with Jericho but that Amann had a relationship with a diva who was his patient.

Then if Punk didn’t sign that Colt should’ve taken down the podcast. Unfortunately this is the rasslin business where everybody is a carny thief.

I repeat, there was no way of knowing that the wwe was getting involved until it was too late, normally McDevitt is the one that tries to f*** you over, they never backed an employee just to screw with someone.

Never backed them in public but once again as said i'm pretty sure they've done plenty of behind the scenes which is what i'm referencing

That is in hindsight

Well before any lawsuit was filed came WWE's Ken Burns-style Youtube video about CM Punk's ass. WWE's fingerprints were all the f*** over it from the word go.

If I were a stockholder of WWE I would be super pissed that they spent my money on f***ing with a former employee for petty reasons, especially since it is publicly known that they went out of their way to fire him on his wedding day, which they had to know when it was since his bride had to ask them for time off in order to be there herself. Waste your own f***ing money, Vince. Doing that with company funds is entirely inappropriate.

It's not really petty when he was attacking both WWE and Amann as being neglectful
Now the video focusing on his ass and firing him on his wedding day is mega petty

How much work is Colt getting now? Any of the newer indies getting coverage using him at all? His refusal to return to ROH seems to be cutting off his nose to spite his face.

He even f***ed with a dying AWA by calling the comission and trying to f*** the Superclash 3 main event by telling them that Kerry Von Erich shouldn’t be licensed to wrestle in Chicago because he was missing a foot.

Oh good for him doing the comms work with ROH. I'm not a fan of Colt at all anymore (unrelated to the Punk thing), but he does at least seem savvy about trying to do things aside from actually working in ring to prolong his ability to earn.

The sad thing is Colt's now 38, his earning power is greatly diminished, his entire career's earnings are gone, and he's literally below the poverty line. You look at the group of top indie guys he was part of - Punk, Bryan, Zayn, Owens, Cesaro, Joe, Aries, Hero - and they're all millionaires (or at least very wealthy), while he's qualifying for f***ing food stamps. I'm glad he seems to have retained his sense of humour and motivation to keep working hard, because I know if I were in his position I'd be one salty bastard.

Didn't he kind of hamstring himself with ROH for a period? Refusing to go back because of a perceived slight.

I'm not going to side with anybody here but if Colt Cabana expected CM Punk to pay all his legal fees on the basis of a single text message (which I've no doubt Punk's lawyers will argue "I got your back" could mean a million different things) and didn't get a signed contract from Punk promising to pay said fees - he is a complete moron.

If All Elite Wrestling materializes, he would be a great guy to have on board for multiple reasons.

Did Colt Cabana open a GoFundMe of sorts? he has the good will and the internet presence, probably better choice than reliying only on suing Punk.

It said he'd be '100% covered', which is different I think. You'd have to assume they communicated beyond text messages, and Punk did actually cover him for a long time. So I don't think there is much room for interpretation, morally, if not legally. I don't think he's a moron, I can see why he thought his super-rich best friend would stick to his word and not leave him penniless because he took him at his word and didn't immediately draw up a contract (which Punk would've no doubt taken extreme offence to). It's just a pretty shitty lesson for anyone to learn, that you literally cannot trust anyone, and I can't help but take Colt's side because A) it wasn't his fight, B) he was acting in good faith when he agreed with Punk not to take the podcast down and C) regardless of what has happened between them, Punk is a major star who could earn 200k in a minute and end this very easily if he wanted to. As was put very well above, Colt has spent his adult life busting his ass and he got jobbed out of everything because somebody sued him and lost. What a mad system.

Thing is, nothing can be assumed when this gets to court. It's going to be all on Colt Cabana to prove that they communicated "beyond a text message". Punk's lawyers will likely argue black is white, whatever the text message says. Colt should have known better and drawn up a legally binding contract, so everybody knew where they stood. And if Punk were to throw his inevitable bitch fit, that should have been a red flag to Cabana not to proceed.
