Unless it’s only a small minority that think he should retire, I don’t get why fans cheer for him when he should have stepped away years ago. I know it’s really cliche to say at this point but he’s just too out of touch with what the audience wants these days. You can’t have a 73 year old run a company’s storylines to cater to the young demographics. I guess it would be disrespectful to a degree but I’d rather the fans chant what they’re really feeling about him still running the company.

It’s weird. For ALL the things we as a fanbase say and believe about Vince, his crowd reactions whenever he shows up have always been strong (and probably stronger than when he was a regular character, now that people try to sing his theme). It has only been one crowd, the post-WM RAW crowd after WM33 that has actually tried to give out about the booking directly to him in the ring (“FIRE ROMAN” chants), and he basically just went “Whatevs, brah” and did his promo.

Yeah, that was so annoying when he just brushed it off like nothing thinking it’s just the post WM crowd being like that. When I think there’s a huge percentage of fans that want Vince to retire. I wouldn’t care if he still had some sort of role with the business side of things but to be in charge of what we see on TV at 73 years old is not good. The sad thing though is I don’t see HHH being that better. I feel a lot of fans will be disappointed when he’s in charge thinking a lot will change but I don’t see it, especially with Stephanie being in charge with him.

I think it's the dichotomy a lot of us feel about Vince. Like granted, there are some that absolutely love him or hate him. No in-between. And though I say with utmost certainty he's lost it and the creative dryspell the WWE faces ultimately befalls upon his discretion....ya can't help but love the son of a bitch. He's like Zeus. The Patriarch of this ridiculous business we all seem to enjoy. Anecdotes like "I dance great for a white man" and "Gotta have class pal" endears you to the bastard. Not too mention his appearances are become more and more rare and age is certainly catching up with him. As much as he'd have you believe he'll be here for another 50 years, Vince won't be around forever and that day in itself is one I've mentally and emotionally been preparing myself for. Because while WWE, as a company, has a chance to shine in a way it never has before when Vince is gone.. it'll also mean Vince, who is without a doubt Larger-Than-Life, will be gone from us. So I dunno. It's very easy to hate and love the guy.

It's the strut.
Partially people probably make noise to get him to do his "SHUT UP!" thing too.

He's a fun, over the top character that people have fond memories of, and he doesn't show up as much anymore. There's also a respect thing since everyone knows he's older, he won't be around a whole lot longer, and he was responsible for building WWE into what it is today. I understand it from that point of view.
The crowds are diverse enough to where you're going to get a lot of people just there with their kids, or newer fans, or people who don't realize or for that matter care about the adverse side of Vince and his detriment to the product. They're just watching the thing they see on tv and enjoy, and hey, that's the guy who made it all possible, so they cheer.

If you attend a WWE show and you get a chance to see Vince McMahon live. What exactly are you going to do? Sit on your hand because you think he's "out of touch" or should "retire"? Or are you going to cheer like mad because you get a rare appearence of one of the most larger then life personalities in TV and real life right before your eyes. I definally agree a lot of the criticism about him are justified, but when your their live and "No Chance" hits and he struts his way out, you can't help but cheer like mad for the guy.

Maybe they are chanting what they really feel about him running the company and all the people going to live shows don't necessarily think he's awful at running the company.

Pretty much this. It's not like he's out there every show or every week anymore. Quite a perk if the Chairman appears.

Because they don't see him often, his appearances tend to lead to something interesting happening, and he deserves respect anyway because he's Mr McMahon.

It's the strut. Partially people probably make noise to get him to do his "SHUT UP!" thing too. Basically this. Now his appearances are getting further and further apart so you get the surprise holy shit factor which usually means something major is about to go down to go along with the fact that he seems to be having a blast out there.

He'll probably never die but to an extent, he's probably on his way to retirement soon, so kinda feels like a retirement tour these days to some extent.
He's by no means perfect, but tbh, I'd probably still give him a standing O if I did see him live at a show.
Probably moreso than even Hogan tbh.
