Seems to me Pac isn’t happy unless he is being booked to dominate.

Damn. Bastard PAC was one of the reasons I was looking forward to AEW. Still plenty of reasons, but this is a big blow to them.
Hope the replacement is someone worthy at least.

I don't listen to Observer Radio because eff that, but this thread seems to break down how Meltzer most recently explained it.

If this is true, dude's going to burn through his post-WWE goodwill quicker than Sandow.

Based on things Excalibur, Steen, Generico and others have said PAC's always been a little like this, dating back to prior to his signing with the WWE. It was why pretty much the main big American promotion that would touch him and deal with him was PWG.
But it sounds like WWE might have made the dude snap a little and he may be reaching Low Ki levels of "Ha ha, nah, I don't job".

To be fair, PAC shout NOT be losing to Hangman Page.

PAC is Austin Aries 2.0, so MLW will probably attempt to sign him?

If the reason for all this really us that PAC didn't want to do the job, either at DON or anytime in the future, AEW would be better of cutting that cord now before he really becomes a staple of their TV show.
You'd think someone would be happy just to be involved with the first major upstart promotion with an incredible TV deal in 20 years.. but hey, what do I know.

I hope this doesn’t become a frequent problem that they face while trying to work with non-exclusive talents.

I guess we'll wait and see, but it could just be that Pac didn't want to job while he's the champion of a company he's very loyal to.
Either way, I just hope he's not burning bridges here.

Again, I don’t think he’d have been allowed to have a whole angle with Page and cut the promo he did at Wrestle Gate if there wasn’t something else there. Also can we stop with the “Aries 2.0” stuff until he commits sexual assault on live TV?

When ROH or RevPro gets dates on the IWGP Champ, do you see them losing on those shows? No. NXT UK Women's Champ Toni Storm just spent a week or two in Stardom. She didn't lose. Supposedly, ROH has kept its champion out of the G1 in the past because he would have to lose in the tournament. AJPW Triple Crown Champion Kento Miyahara will be in Mexico next weekend for DragonMania XIV. I don't see him taking any pins or submitting. When Kenny Omega was IWGP Champ, he didn't lose at ALL IN to Pentagon. Kenny also beat Fenix on a U.S. indie show when he was IWGP Champ. PAC basically wanting to protect the Open the DreamGate Championship like most all companies want to protect their championships.

Doesn’t seem possible AEW has been hyping this match for so long while being unaware that PAC simply wasn’t going to job while holding the DG championship. Extreme communication difficulties or PAC just recently decided this, but neither is a good look.

AEW Management and PACs fault tbh, didnt help that Meltzer was defending them last night imo.

It doesn't sound like he wanted to job regardless of whatever belt he had though. Not wanting to job to Page is one thing, but if the guy doesn't want to job to freakin Kenny Omega then he's a joke and it's best to cut ties. Again I still have to ask though....why not just do a time limit draw at this PPV? DQ finish? I'd at least get through this show and then cut ties with him. AEW doesn't have to book him going forward but they did book him at this PPV.

AEW doesn't have to book him going forward but they did book him at this PPV. Reportedly (according to Dave Meltzer), it was because RevPro fans reacted so negatively to the draw between PAC and Will Ospreay, and they didn't want anything on Double or Nothing to lead to this kind of reaction from fans. Also, the length of the show (on traditional PPV) might have been another factor.

That, and they’ve already gone so hard on their “We’ll make sure that wins and losses matter, and there’ll always be clean finishes on our major shows” platform that to go back on that second show in would apparently be a massive mixed message.
