So the Young Bucks have left Twitter due to negative comments, JR is now playing the “people who criticise are lonely people with nothing better to do” card and AEW’s social media guy upped and quit after arguing with and insulting people. This is all in the space of about two weeks.
The show has only been on the air a couple of months and was propelled by nothing but positive comments of “change” and support, especially from the online fans.
What’s going on?

It's weird, I think it mainly stems from the last episode that aired doing worse in the ratings/that One Creeper doing a poor job pretending to beat up Dustin and the crowd coming across as not being into the final segment.
Overall I'm still enjoying the hell out of this show

I just said it in another thread, but the promotion just feels like it's under a pretty absurd microscope for some people who are, unfortunately, incredibly vocal.
From the overprotective types to the people looking to pounce on literally anything that doesn't click the instant it debuts/any ratings fluctuation, it's tiring, especially since AEW's mostly just been fun thus far and yet the online discourse seemingly isn't allowed to just focus on that.

I think it highlights how much wrestling fans love to just complain about things, I get that not everything is going to be perfect, but it seems that people who are giving shit to AEW for the smallest of reasons are just people who enjoy getting to be negative about things.
People wanted an alternative to WWE, they're getting one in AEW and, instead of enjoying the product, they're just complaining and moaning about every little mistake and, as the OP said, it's exhausting.
Why can't wrestling fans just enjoy wrestling anymore? I'm not saying that people have to praise AEW, if you think something isn't good, then that's your opinion, but it seems like, with AEW, people are looking to make a mountain out of a mole-hill.

The Twitter world has been and is even more so a toxic cesspool. No matter what they provide on TV there will always be some form of extreme negative. Now with this "AEW/NXT War" it's amped up even more and it feels like everything is a downer.
This should be a fun time for wrestling. By looking at Twitter you'd think we'd all be locked up and forced to watch it all. Everything is being reviewed to the smallest of smallest things instead of letting it all develop.

Skin can be thin sometimes.
Vince and co get the same amount of vitriol tweeted at them and even places like here and you don’t see them lashing out on social media.

Exactly, I wasn't a wrestling fan during the period, but I doubt that the Monday Night War was this negative and, surely, that had even higher stakes? I get that both companies aren't going to be flawless, but it's sad how people say that 'With competition, things'll be better, just like the late 1990s' and, yet, people make no attempt to enjoy it.

Have you missed the entire last year of WWE Current? Show me a tweet from Vince or HHH or any higher up calling fans who criticize the product lonely or acting like the way people like Brandi act. You can’t. TNA had the same issues with higher ups acting like this on twitter and we’re shit on by people here.

I think the honeymoon is over and AEW hasn't really lived up to the hype.
People were hoping for revolution but instead got a solid wrestling show that has settled into familiarity.

I can't do that because Vince and Triple H don't run their twitter accounts and most people getting hired for a multi-billion dollar company's social media department are going to be smart enough to not tank their jobs. But agents, refs, writers? A million of them, because they run their own accounts. You're on the verge of the real answer, which is that across the wrestling business people are crap on social media.

There was no social media during the Attitude Era but you better believe that the “online wrestling community” still critiqued and trashed things on a weekly basis,, both WCW and WWF.

It is a little weird.
I’m not on Twitter so thankfully I’m ignorant to all that, but you still get a feel for it on YouTube, wreddit, here on FAN. Feels like it came out of nowhere. Maybe cause it’s one negative, after the other so people dogpile..? Iono.
I wear AEW merch out a lot and pretty much always get an acknowledgement and honest to god a few great stop-and-chats with strangers but even in line at this sandwich place, the worker was like “I heard about all that aew punching thing on Twitter” and I kinda shrugged it off but the guys point with it was “it looks pretty cool, I’m trying to get into it”.
So I dunno. Lol. It’s been a weird holiday season. If I wasn’t online I wouldn’t notice a damn thing wrong. Maybe that’s me.

It hasn't been going for that long, at least wait a bit before deciding to say that it "Hasn't really lived up to the hype" and only wrestling fans would say "Oh, it was meant to be a revolution, but we only got a solid wrestling show, pfft." I honestly don't know of a fanbase that seems to relish in being negative about what they claim to be a fan of than wrestling fans. There's no pleasing some people.

AEW has been on tv for like 3 months. Its going to have its growing pains and like what happened to TNA, people seem to have unrealistic expectations that it should be running on all cylinders with no mistakes. You also have cult of cornette trolls and wwe trolls who want to shit on the product or troll the performers so they can screenshot and retweet anything negative.

The people running AEW are learning on the job, because most of the people with the relevant experience are either employed or complete lunatics and beyond the indie level there's not a whole lot to choose from. I do feel that maybe active wrestlers should npt be booking the show though, even with the best of intentions there seems to be a bit of lack of perspective on the behalf of the elite, and overcompensation o try and avoid WCW-ing things by having those with creative control always going over.
With that said, there are people online who were waiting for it to fail who are taking full advantage f their early missteps to try and run them down, because unpleasable aholes will do what they do.

Then surely that’s on the people who built up unrealistic expectations for it? I wanted a weekly wrestling tv show that was enjoyable to watch and didn’t feel like a chore, they have delivered on that. Not everything about the show has been perfect but they haven’t done anything yet to lose my benefit of the doubt.
