Here's one that was big in comic pop culture for a brief time. Remember the first couple of years of Wizard Magazine? Remember how much they pushed this series in their top 10s and in general? There was another movie just four years ago, and then there's that whole kinda-big thing when it happened a few months ago with Eddie Murphy returning to SNL, which included him resurrecting Buckwheat. Beanworld .... Have any of yall read any issues? I remember Palmer's Picks hyping it so found a few in a cheap bin in about 94. I haven't found a substance yet that makes these comics make sense. Oddly there is a few comics that got hyped to hell by Wizard and are forgotten. Hepcats,Starchild,THB.. I started bringing it (Beanworld) into my old comic shop based on the Wizard stuff. It tanked. I dug it but it was definitely put on a pedestal higher than it should have been.

Tenchi Muyo used to be one of the top animes both to hardcore and casual fans (admittedly, that may have been due to the Toonami airings), but now you never hear anyone talk about it (as opposed to even older franchises like Dragon Ball, Gundam, Lupin, and Jojo, which still have massive fan followings, even among casuals). I know OVA 3 wasnt as good as anticipated, and GXP is best ignored, but it's like it never existed now. What is it up to OAV5 now? And the last few things weren't even released here in the states. I think the fact that it ended sorta open ended (the stuff readily available here) coupled with the "alternate universes" eventually hurt it with casual anime fans. You can only see the same characters rehashed in worse and worse forms (Shin Tenchi blarrrgh and the second 2 Tenchi movies... particularly forever...woof) so many times before the word of mouth starts to be trash. The character designs seem to get increasingly more weird yet somehow samey. And the one series that is still going, the OAV, is while on one hand being the best (OAV1 and 2) is also now so convoluted with Tenchi himself being so blah/uninteresting yet somehow annoying (he seems like the picture of someone inserting themselves into their own work) that it's more obnoxious to follow than fun for those that still do.
Oddly enough I thought GXP was great up until the point everything started to be so connected to the OAV and Seina started being OP with everything handed to him. When it was him exploring the universe, not having the universe fawn over him, it was good. And when it got all serious it got even worse.
I have a friend who was a big fan of Ayeka and I still draw him naughty pics of her just to get his goat. Hahahaha.

Robot Wars was huge at one point. It was big in England, and then thanks to the now defunct G4 Tech TV in the US it got a huge following in the US. And then, it got a US Spinoff, multiple in fact. At one point, Chris Jericho AND Mick Foley would host iterations of it in fact. The US also had Battlebots, which also was kind of everywhere as well until it wasn't. Eventually, the last season was filled with really fake drama to try and drum up viewers and the last Final they had the Judges actually tampered with the finish to give the win to the bot Typhoon 2 and not Storm. Storm being a battering ram type of robot that the producers at the time deemed too boring to be the winner of the series, despite how cool it was that the thing moved at such a high speed it could and literally did in one case, ram robots over the wall and out of the arena. It eventually did come back for at least one season recently (So did Battlebots funny enough), but to much less cultural impact and results. The days it was at its peak were definitely at the days when robots like Razor, Hypno-Disc, Pussycat, Tornado, and Chaos 2 who basically had the Goldberg streak going at one point. were the kings. That Tornado single handedly killed my interest in Robot Wars when in Season 6 final I think it was. Was a boring design to begin with and then in the last fight added that frame so that Razor couldn’t get to them and they had them over pit as well and literally couldn’t fit in it because of the size of this additional frame Such b*****t Hypno-Disc and Razor were awesome machines though Still get triggered by it to this day.

Argghhhhh! Now you’ve triggered me! It’s in the f****** pit! How was this allowed? Why did the judges award this the title?

Austin Powers never seems to get a mention or reference. Mike Myers in general, Austin Powers 3/The Love Guru/The Cat in the Hat really killed any and all interest in him. He had the bit in Inglourious Basterds but that's a small role and about it. He had a cameo in Bohemian Rhapsody that ground the movie to a halt for me.

American Horror Story is definitely the case here. Was really popular for a while and now it's like it never existed.

AP, IMO, had a justified flameout as I still say the original was the best of the three films. Now, it just ended, but how about Modern Family? Last few seasons it went from phenom to just another usually really good sitcom.
