And now WWE & AEW take a freaking backseat to Impact. Interesting.

The thing I remember about the AJ promo is that her character at the time was a lot more promiscuous and fanservicey than the Bellas were. I mean that's fine if you're intentionally doing a hypocritical heel thing, but I don't think that's what they were going for. Right? Coming from the woman who hooked up with Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, John Cena, Dolph Ziggler, and I think even Kane in kayfabe, that sure was something.

Oh man, now I just started thinking about that one AJ Lee promo. The fact she won the Golden Snowcone for Promo Of The Year that year over a field that included CM Punk, Paul Heyman and even DUSTY RHODES... Goes to show how much goodwill you could get at the time just by tearing down The Bella Twins. Didn't Dusty mainly lose that because none of us understood his Andy Williams reference?

Dusty predicted The Butcher signing with AEW?

The promo was clearly meant to be the "real wrestler" shutting down the "fanservice characters", but most of AJ Lee's career was defined by her being just a fanservice character, but for a different demographic; instead of bikinis and bronzed skin, she was "I'm not like other girls, I play videogames" and skipping around in pigtails and short shorts. She was basically Olivia Munn from Attack of the Show with some Manic Pixie Dream Girl sprinkled on top. Then, like you said, the promiscuity was dialed up to 11 (#AJAll indeed ). This is particularly ironic considering one of the people she "shut down", if I recall correctly, was Natalya f***ing Neidhart, who up until she was inexplicably dumped with Hornswoggle and Khali, was largely defined by being one of the best pure wrestlers in the women's division.

Right. The other irony is that in hindsight, the Bellas, who she especially ran down, ended up with careers/success that blew her out of the water.

Yeah, while we're talking about this - can someone point me towards some good AJ Lee matches? I'm not saying they don't exist, I'm saying I was watching for her whole run and remember none of them, whereas I remember Nikkie especially but even Brie having some decent matches. Didn't one of them get something watchable in a match with Steph? I'm not sure there's many women in WWE history whose reputation is as undeserved as the Bellas and Nikki in particular is grossly underrated. Nikki wrestled Ronda. Forget the fact that it was a good match (which by the way, it was), can we just note the fact that she got in the ring with Ronda Rousey? I suspect half of the male wrestlers wouldn't even want to f*** with that, worked or not. AJ's entire run was defined by her relationships with men - no matter how shitty the Bellas were as wrestlers for a while, at least their storylines mostly involved them interacting with other women.

AJ's matches with Kaitlyn were all pretty good. There was also one on Main Event with someone (Natalya?) that received a lot of praise, but I've never seen it. AJ was one of those women who came around a few years too early.

Nikki did vs Steph. Was surprisingly good. AJ was good. She and Paige had a pretty tight bout at Summerslam. That said, I think there's some rose colored glasses when it comes to her. Sure, the talent around her was so/so, but she wasn't exactly a ring wizard herself. Put it this way, if she was around now, at highest, she'd be the dozenth best on the roster.
