I got Covid back in April while I was in the hospital awaiting surgery. My immune system is garbage so my Doctor told me to wait a couple months to get vaccinated.I get my 2nd shot in 2 weeks. It's baffling how intransparent vaccination is for those who had COVID not too long ago. I had it in April as well, along with my mom. She nearly died from it, I had mild symptoms, but my heart started aching a few weeks after. It's mostly fine again. Anyway, it was adviced to get vaccinated six months after the infection. Now I got a single shot of Moderna last week on monday, had the very same symptoms as with the infection itself. But I'm not supposed to get a second shot - is it adviced in the USA to get a second one? My mother lives in a slightly different part of Germany and her doctor did not want to vaccinate her before six months are over. She got her shot on saturday last week in the parking lot of a shopping mall. I tried to get verification for me being considered fully vaccinated after one shot, but the place I was supposed to go to for that told me I need to go to a pharmacy for that. It's still not organised for those who were infected and therefore not very trustworthy. Because I was already sick awaiting surgery when I got Covid it wasn’t that bad.I was in quarantine for 3 weeks with pneumonia and everything tasted weird. What sucked was for 2 months afterwards I had extreme fatigue, heart issues and brain fog. After my 1st shot I had a migraine for 2 days and I felt like I had a cold for a week but now I’m fine. My dad had a really bad bout with covid in march. He’s in his 80’s and has had a ton of medical issues being hospitalized several times since. He’s been fully vaccinated for about a month. He woke up the next day after the 2nd shot and was totally weak & couldn’t move.He was hospitalized and the doctors told me this was a common reaction for the elderly with the vaccine. I got my shot at a pharmacy and they gave me a card for proof of vaccination. My sister got vaccinated in may and only needed one shot but she got a different brand than me and my dad.

That's a highly effective vaccine there.

Never planned on getting vaccinated. My wife sure does push me to do things that are good for me. Got my 2nd dose in a couple weeks.

That's a highly effective vaccine there. It is. They won’t have to make funeral arrangements because they’re all vaccinated.

The overwhelming majority of infections severe enough to require hospitalizations from Delta have been among the unvaccinated. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, at the very least, are only slightly less effective at preventing transmission and serious illness from Delta. Just that Delta is also incredibly transmissible (equivalent to the chicken pox), so you see more breakthrough cases amongst the vaccinated just because of sheer numbers.
But out of the 160,000,000 or so Americans that have been vaccinated, only about 5,000 have been hospitalized from all COVID-19 variants and there's only been about 1000 deaths.

That's a highly effective vaccine there. None of them are hospitalized, so yes. It's a vaccination, NOT an immunization.

And no vaccine has ever been 100% effective. It's just a statistical impossibility.
However, the vaccines we got for COVID are actually more effective than most typical vaccines. The science and development of mRNA vaccines has been in development for years. I don't think a lot of people really appreciate just how big a medical breakthrough this is not just in regards to COVID-19 but viral immunology in general.

I was talking to my uncle, whose a neurophycist, (God that sounds like the worst version of my dad works at Nintendo but I swear its true!) and he explained that part of the reason vaccines take so long is a series of sequential tests. This time, the tests were done in parallel, massively reducing the timeline. This, along with the mrna aspect is massive and should be celebrated. The next pandemic, presuming the climate isn't completely gone to pot, we could see an effective vaccine with 3 months.

Also a lot of this comes down to a few things. 1. People not understanding what a vaccines actually does and how it affects risks. 2. Politicians overselling and/or not communicating well about point. When you have people who are hesitant, or are getting tonnes of misinformation, this can reinforce their incorrect opinions. The best way I've heard it described is - a vaccine isn't a cure. Its a shield. Just as your immune system is a shield against a virus, the vaccine gives an additional shield. No shield is guaranteed to protect you from harm, but if I'm going into war I want the best defence possible.

Yeah, COVID-19 was a global crisis as opposed to an annoying, yet manageable virus or something with regional or isolated outbreaks. There was a worldwide, cooperative, concentrated effort on behalf of the medical community to combat it, along with the resources given to do so. I'd say it was like something out of a movie, but I don't think movies have idiots yelling about muh freedumz or Bill Gates 5G mind control being a roadblock to saving the world.

Was fully vaccinated in January so I’m eager to get a booster shot now that it is 8 months later. I have a form of muscular dystrophy and would not do well if I got infected even if vaccinated. I’d like to at least increase my odds since so many of my neighbors seem determined to get me infected.

Get my second booster 3rd week of June. But a few of my neighbors got theirs a month ago. The ones that thhe other doses hit them hard were feeling like crap for a few days. The others didn't notice a difference.

I wasn't aware the general public could get a second booster yet, though if it's six-months after the first booster, I would be up as of five days ago. My parents did, but they qualify as high risk individuals.

Had covid two weeks back. Worst symptoms were losing my taste and having no energy. Thankfully no cough or breathing issues and I'm 100% now with no lingering issues apparent.
