I actually listened to the quote. He really did not say it like it was a (no pun intended) big deal. Just a little note. I replaced the link with the audio so people can judge themselves.

Yeah. Not in a judgmental way but for his own good and the long-run, he absolutely should. Sounds like fat-shaming no matter how it's worded. Anyone who knows what Keith went through, would understand a little extra covid weight. Hell, I could stand to lose weight myself. I just don't see the point of Meltzer and smarks shitting on wrestlers' physical conditions. Would you say the same about Doudrop?

And his age, the physically demanding profession he’s in, and his natural build. Any losing of weight would improve his well being & durability. And yes, that goes for pretty much everybody.

When you have Keith Lee's upper body you are going to carry weight there is just no way around it.

Whatever the guy feels healthy doing is what's best for him. Think about NFL offensive linemen, many of them have bulk on top of muscle, it doesn't prevent them from doing their job. A lot of wrestlers from earlier days carried extra weight as well. If the weight doesn't allow him to wrestle effectively or he deals with injuries as a result, I'm sure he'll manage it. Dave Meltzer is not Keith Lee's doctor, an AEW producer or one of the people who hired him and put him on TV.
What's interesting is I get more alarmed when I see a guy who looks unnaturally jacked to the point that they look more like an action figure than I do seeing Keith Lee's build.

I’d just love to cook him dinner. I like that it looks like he’s smelling something good all the time. During his entrance, during the match, even during the segments afterward. I bet I could make him a dinner he’d really like then with all appreciative smelling he does, I’d feel really good about myself afterwards.

It's ok for him to make comments about male wrestlers' appearances then? It's not his business what weight anybody is. It's wrestling, not Miss America.

It's Alvarez who makes the weight comment, no?

It's Alvarez who makes the weight comment, no? The OP originally sourced Ringside News, a sketchy source that's been banned by this forum rather than Meltzer/Alvarez directly.

It's Alvarez who makes the weight comment, no? And it was said very, almost off handily, as a tiny part of a bigger conversation.

The man has all the reason in the world to have put on a bit of weight considering what he's gone through but it is still a legitimate concern. You could kinda tell he was a bit more winded by the end of the match. Still looked freaking awesome and badass throughout though and If his "we have work to do" tweet is anything to go by, he's aware of it and he seems like the type to shine when motivated.
In the culture of AEW where it seems like everyone wants to put on a long match and outdo eachother, he seems like the type to do what he can to keep up. I'd be worried about his cardio after a bad stint of Covid and putting on a bit of weight though so I could see them easing him into the company with a month or two of squashes while he gets into better shape. Multi-man matches like the ladder match where he can do a few insane spots will help him out as well.
Dude is known not only for his insane strength spots, but also for his incredible agility so selfishly I really hope he's still able to do all of that, but the guy is charismatic and entertaining enough to make it by without it if he needs to. I hope he does whatever keeps him healthy. What happened to him this past year health wise was no joke.

Meltzer only really said it because he wants Keith to be in good health, so it wasn't mean spirited as it could look if you just saw the thread title
Keith looks fine, he'll probably get more and more into ring shape as he gets more reps in. This was his first match in months after a harsh battle with long COVID, I would have been shocked if he was suddenly just in PWG shape

Some people come off injury and vacation looking better and more jacked than normal. Those people, vitally, don't come off of long-term heart complications. It's like Moxley coming back in good shape but much leaner than he left. We'll see where he is given time, for now dude's killing it.
