I do have to say that proportionate to how many people AEW has on its roster I feel like the amount of them I have like any investment in whatsoever at this point in time is incredibly small. Like looking over the roster Hangman, the Acclaimed, Christian, Darby when he's doing singles stuff, Eddie, Keith Lee, Miro when he exists, MJF when he shuts the f*** up about WWE, OC, PAC, Hobbs, Starks, Joe, Ruby, I think that's literally all of them. One day Lizuka, Slim J will open up those cold doors to your heart!

I'm talking her ''feud'' with Cargill. Which consisted every week of her being beaten down, never allowed to get a single word in, lost every matchup and not once ever presented as being a threat or an equal. Which isn't true at all, she got in brawls with Jade multiple times, got promos, and overall was positioned as a challenger to Jade who could legitimately beat her And while the match was short, Athena almost won it in seconds, she hit the O Face, and Jade got pulled out of the ring Her new aggressive heel persona has given her a standout gimmick in AEW even more so than the Jade feud. Her knocking out Aubrey got the reaction of the night. I'm loving Athena s new indie women's wrestler murderer gimmick TBH. Its the one she shouldve had on day one.

Yuta suffered the most from it, he went from a breakout star with his performances to just another body on the roster. It's amazing how Yuta lost the Pure title three months ago and he's only had three matches on TV since and only one of those was a singles match. He had more matches on TV in April than he has in the past three months combined. He had a really great MJF mini feud, which was very over, and he was very over, and he's wrestling on Dynamite next week He's also fighting Garcia for the PURE Title at Final Battle I don't really think Yuta's in any danger or is he "Another body on the roster", which I think is becoming a very overused term tbh.

It’s certainly a valid criticism, though. And not one people are piling on just one promotion about. Maybe calling it the “Tony Khan Special” makes it seem unique to him, but it’s certainly something that seems to be happening a lot lately. Some acts could be in a better position or place than they currently are in December 2022 of AEW, that's a valid criticism Calling it the "Tony Khan Special" is the exact type of bait title that ensues these kinds of arguments and makes it less about the talent and more about bashing AEW and imo inflating the issues presented, which is what's annoying about it. The actual conversation in the thread has not been baiting, despite the title of the thread.

You said she was cold now. Did you watch last week where she was the first person to hit Audrey in AEW? No, because they've made it clear after that she's another body on the roster after her debacle debut. When you book a talent like a loser, don't be surprised when people eventually believe and act like she is one. As we have seen with Pillman and Garrison.
I've got no interest in her assaulting Aubrey, why should I? Because she's a Ref and it's gonna lead to a Ref vs Wrestle match?

I have no idea if it was the plan, or if she just latched on to the internet discussing her stiff worked match in Canada, but I really think she's found something great. Great sassy promos, a distinct style, and what should be a great match with Mercedes Martinez to boot out of it

This is the best Athena's ever been as far as character consistency goes. It's been a thing she's had issue with since she first started in the indies. Hope she sticks with it for the long haul.

Nah its just to solidify her heel turn. You can critique the parts you've seen. But giving critiques on stuff you only heard about isn't the way.

Tony Khan once peeled potatoes. You'd think he'd followed that up by tossing salad, but nope. He fried the potatoes instead. He lost the plot.

He has barely been used prominently since then, and definitely seems to have cooled off.

Yeah her in-ring work has always been very good but the character work has been poor or nonexistent most of the time. This new persona could take her far.

Bro, we get it, you hate AEW at this point and you've given up on Athena. No one else has, and people here don't consider her "Just another body on the roster", you don't have to twist yourself into a knot to convince us otherwise. You're taking her loss to Jade personally, and given you aren't watching the shows anymore and seeing any of the progression, this just sounds like major sour grapes. Sorry it's that way for you, but like, Athena's just fine, and she's gonna continue to be just fine no matter how much you insist she's dead career wise.

He's a young lion, that's gonna happen, but every time he wrestles the crowds still super into him, so I think he'll be just fine personally.

No, because nobody’s touched Aubrey and puts Athena over as dangerous and unhinged (because she got suspended for it) which is, again, the last few weeks of her character development and rebuild. You know, the thing you do to make people change their minds and believe differently. It’s basically hard to take the opinion that people are done when you won’t at least get some context on what’s going in clear as day on the show. It’d be like me ignoring them trying to rebuild Austin Theory on Raw and I just pretended he was still the goober that lost for months.

Garcia is an odd one. AEW put so much work into getting him over and they did such a good job with it, too. Then when it came to sticking the landing it just got dropped. The crowd were desperate for Garcia to choose wrestling and walk out on Jericho and every week seemed to be building to it happening. Then it didn't.
I don't think Garcia is ice cold and I don't think it'll take much to reheat him. It's just odd that AEW didn't pull the trigger when everything was poised for it to happen.
Maybe Khan thought that Jericho vs Garcia wasn't blockbuster enough for Final Battle? Maybe having the ROH title so heavily involved changed plans a little. IDK.

When it comes to Athena I kind of have complicated but not very intense feelings? I do think they definitely set her up to fail bringing her in being entirely defined by, "I want to beat Jade," just to drag out the match for months and then have her get completely squashed in it, but I also don't think it was necessarily career-ruining or anything and the new direction might well work out fine for her. But at the same time I don't really particularly care whether it does or it doesn't because Athena's just never really done anything for me in general though hey, maybe she will if she finds some character consistency for once.
So I guess I fall on the side of, "Wait and see," on this one?

Yuta is a guy who gets over with wrestling but he still needs that something to get to the next level.
I think there was a real missed opportunity with a double turn with him and Garcia though.
