I have been watching the show since the beginning and went to an Acclaimed signing this weekend, so I am by no means an AEW hater. But it seems the promotion gets a lot of benefit of the doubt by being Not Vince and seeing people like QT Marshall made me ask the above question. I just find my interest in AEW has been lessening recently. I still enjoy plenty of the roster, but more and more there are just so many people who make me roll my eyes when they're on TV and most of the story lines have been meh. Like I've always enjoyed Toni Storm, Ruby Riot and Saraya, but this New Brat Order is a mashup of Damage Ctrl (which got worse by the week) and the NWO. The women are still getting one match per TV show, so I'm tired of hearing it's all leading somewhere. They have 'dream matches' with guys I have to Google to know anything about and plenty of people sitting in catering. I just feel since HHH took over (and who knows what's gonna happen there?), WWE has been more coherent and has better story lines yet his honeymoon on the board ended pretty quick. Does anyone else feel this way or am I a lone voice screaming in the void when I hear Daddy Magic's voice?

Is it still a "Honeymoon" 4 years later or is it people just legit enjoying what they're seeing?
I enjoy some episodes/angles more than others, but I still generally find they put out a good/alternative style of pro wrestling week after week

I think the honeymoon period has been over since last year at least. Fans are a lot more critical of the things they don't like than they were in 2019 or 2020.
This really feels like a "People like things I don't, therefore they're the ones that are wrong" thread.

I’m sure plenty of ppl feel the same way, tastes change. I myself don’t care for the current WWE product in the slightest. Doesn’t mean I won’t in the future tho.

You know the majority of fans of things legit enjoy the things they are a fan of right? Like the people that stubbornly cling to things they've long since lost interest in for internet clout are in the minority, most people have lives outside the realm of liking pro f***ing wrestling and don't have time for such nonsense.

I don't really get the dream matches complaint, so what if you have to google someone? Is that really a lot of effort? You could do it during the 30 seconds or less that Daddy Magic actually speaks on the main shows and put him on mute while you do it. They explained who Vikingo was several times, showed video packages of him, told everyone he was a current World Champion and was going to face Kenny before injuries got in the way etc
It just doesn't sound like the promotion for you in a lot of ways (apart from The Acclaimed), so I don't know if honeymoon phases have much to do with it. They have relationships with other companies and bring in other guys, that's always going to happen and it just seems to antagonise you by looking at your other posts with regards to stuff like Forbidden Door.
Feels like a weird time to be saying all this when their booking has been strong recently, they've got some really hot storylines brewing, a new show likely coming, the hottest free agent in wrestling having just debuted, are fresh off one of the most critically acclaimed PPV's ever and are set for one of the most exciting periods in their history with All In. I don't know about honeymoon periods but if I was losing interest with all that going on because I didn't like Daddy Magic and his nipples I think I'd just give up.

When it comes to the most recent “dream match,” you didn’t even have to Google anything since they had a video package explaining who Vikingo is and showing his style.
Speaking solely for myself, but in general I’m more inclined to look past the flaws of entertainment that consistently keeps me engaged and, you know, entertained. AEW does that and for all the faults they rarely jerk their fanbase around just because. In other words, they’ve earned my trust.

Guevara will be on his next honeymoon before the AEW honeymoon does.

Look how many people raved about Wrestlemania Night 1 here. I'd say most if not all of the PLE shows, especially since Triple H took over, are more widely praised and liked than not. Night 2 was an aberration and even that had some real good matches like the IC triple threat. But it's not like people went into Night 2 wanting or expecting to hate what happened. That's on WWE not delivering for them.

I mean there was a period that this sub was mostly negative, especially in the summer. So I’d say that “honey moon period” is already over.

Are you really interacting with the AEW fanbase if you think you're alone in thinking the Saraya stable is bad and that the women should sometimes have more than one match?

Let them have 10 years of Misery Booking and call it storytelling, and then maybe the Honeymoon will be over.

It ended with Cody leaving. 2022 was the wake up call year.

Are you really interacting with the AEW fanbase if you think you're alone in thinking the Saraya stable is bad and that the women should sometimes have more than one match? Outside of a handful of people, the Outcasts aren't very popular here. That and "the women need more than one match a show" is almost a universal complaint.
It ended with Cody leaving. 2022 was the wake up call year.
I think Cody's backlash in general starting with his infamous "My baby is gonna cure racism!" promo is where you can say the honeymoon period ended. That was the first real fan rebellion where they started to boo who was meant to be a face wrestler.

I've never thought that AEW was above criticism. The following topics brought very heated debates and critiques at the time during the first few years:
- The Nakazawa/Alex Jebailey match - Cody getting busted open from a chair shot - Evil Uno's physique - Excalibur wearing a mask on TV - THAT Dark Order angle - Nightmare Collective - Everything Cody & America - The Revolution 2021 Ending - Matt Hardy/Sammy

AEW made me love wrestling again after years of watching WWE in hopes things would get better because there no viable challenger before AEW was on tv
is it perfect, no -- but I usually like what I see

It ended with Cody leaving. 2022 was the wake up call year. 2022 was a catastrophe of events: Cody leaving, numerous injuries and interim champions, backstage fights, Tony buying Ring of Honor and having little room to integrate it, and finally Punk’s scrum and the Brawl Out. Combined with it coinciding with Vince temporarily leaving WWE and people becoming optimistic about its product for the first time in more than a decade? It was not just the end of AEW’s honeymoon, it was AEW’s trial by fire. Things have finally calmed down and it’s apparent that AEW can weather significant storms. So yeah, AEW isn’t the hot new thing anymore. It’s the reliable second major promotion that a lot of lapsed wrestling fans have found their way back to, and we’re sticking around now that it’s clear that it’s not just TNA 2.0 or any other pretender to the secondary throne that arose after WCW collapsed.
