News and NotesHacksaw: Looking to cut down The WidowmakerOne of the more intense rivalries that has developed over the last few months is between "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and "The Widowmaker" Barry Windham. It all started back at the Survivor Series when Windham knocked Duggan out with "Sensational Queen" Sherri's purse and caused him to be pinned by "Macho King" Randy Savage. Since then the two have been at odds with nothing being settled. They were first set to meet on an episode of Wrestling Challenge but the match was thrown out before it could even get started when Windham attacked Duggan before the bell which triggered a heated brawl between the two that had to be broken up by an army of offcials. Then at the recent Saturday Night's Main Event they did battle again and once again things got out of hand as they brawled all the way to the backstage area with both men being counted out. Always known to be one of the most rugged and toughest brawlers in the WWF, Hacksaw has encountered someone perhaps just as rugged and tough as he is. While they are similar in many ways there is also several difference between the two superstars. While both are brawlers Duggan is loud and uses a simple but very effective straight ahead smash mouth style. The Widowmaker on the other hand is more cunning and calculating and uses more technique as apposed to just sheer brute force like the Hacksaw. At the upcoming Royal Rumble the two are scheduled to meet once again except this time in a Bunkhouse Match. In this match both competitors will be able to come as they are and there will be no count outs and disqualifications which means there must be a winner. Who will prove to be superior when these two tough guys meet one more time? Pink and Black Attack Back in TactAfter a couple of months wrestling in singles competition the Hart Foundation has decided to team up again. While both men fared decently in the singles ranks it's agreed by most that they are both more effective working together as a unit. Possessing contrasting styles that keeps opponents off balance, the Hitman and the Anvil held the WWF Tag Team Championship for nearly the entire calander year of 1987. However since firing manager Jimmy Hart the following year, the Harts have struggled to make it back to the top of the mountain as they've both alternated between wrestling in tag team and singles competition. However now with both being fully committed to staying a team they may be able to once again reclaim the sport's greatest tag team prize. Red DawnAfter a several month absence, Nikolai Volkoff has returned to the WWF and has reformed the team of the Bolsheviks with his partner Boris Zhukov. The two burly Russian's have proven successful since reuniting but it's been at the expense of weak competition. They are signed for upcoming matches against the Bushwhackers which will be much tougher task as the wild and unorthodox pair from New Zealand have compiled a very impressive win-loss record since joining the World Wrestling Federation. Whatever team comes out on top could potentially be in line for a Tag Team Title shot. DeparturesThe Brain Busters and Zeus are all done with the WWF. All last appeared at the Saturday Night's Main Event Holds Barred PPV. The Brain Busters were defeated by the Rockers and fired by manager Bobby Heenan. Zeus teamed with Randy Savage in losing effort to Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake in a Steel Cage Match in which he was pinned by Hogan. News and NotesColossal Connection Demolishes DemolitionThe World Wrestling Federation Tag Team Championship has once again changed hands as Bobby "The Brain" Heenan's powerful duo of Andre The Giant and Haku, collectively known as the Colossal Connection, defeated Demolition on WWF Superstars of Wrestling. What was most surprising about the title change was how lopsided the match was. Demolition was not able to even make one tag as the challengers isolated Ax from bell to bell. After Haku blasted Ax with a reverse thrust kick, the Giant put the finishing touches on it by dropping all of his five hundred twenty pounds frame onto his fallen opponent with a massive drop with Smash then being unable to pull the Giant off his partner to make the save on the cover. Although they have only teamed a few months Andre and Haku have gelled very well as a team. A lot of this has to be credited to the Brain who an employed a unique but very effective strategy for his team. While most teams utilize quick tags to always keep a fresh man in the ring, the Colossal Connection use very little tags. Haku who possesses incredible toughness and endurance, always starts the match and stays in the match as long as possible. Then once the man from the Isle of Tonga has worn down the opposition, he tags in the Giant who finishes them off. Demolition has previously lost the Tag Team Championship two other times, against the Powers of Pain and the Brain Busters respectively, and each time they were able to rebound and regain the championship in short order. However Andre and Haku are probably the toughest team they've faced in their careers and doing so will be quite the daunting task. Regardless they will have to reassess their strategy and try a different approach to avoid a repeat of the two teams previous encounter if they hope to topple the colossal pair. Turning Over a New LeafOne man who has had a surprising change of heart as of late is the Big Boss Man. While always a man of strong moral character, since coming to the WWF those morals have maybe been misguided. Often coaxed into doing the dirty work for the likes of Slick and "Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase the Boss Man has made life miserable for fan favorites such as Hulk Hogan and Dusty Rhodes. However towards the end of the year things started to change as the Boss Man started to show signs of being conflicted while also getting into disagreements with long time allies, Slick and Akeem, mainly over frequently doing Dibiase's bidding via bribery. With further persuasion from Jake "The Snake" Roberts the Boss Man realized that he was meant to be a man to stand for something good. Recently Dibiase challenged Jake to a tag match against him and his bodyguard Virgil. Always a loner fans and pundits alike questioned who the Snake would pick to be his tag team partner. They were shocked when he walked out with the Boss Man. It would take Jake and the Boss Man only a minute to defeat the Million Dollar Man and his loyal henchman with Boss Man scoring the victory for his team after a punishing Boss Man Slam on Virgil. Embarrassed Dibiase has now enlisted the services of the Boss Man's former tag team partner, "The African Dream" Akeem, to take care of the Georgia lawman while Dibiase personally takes care of Roberts. This was a surprise to Boss Man who thought his long time partner would side with him. However Akeem has chosen Dibiase's money over friendship and is siding with the Million Dollar Man and Slick. At the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event Motor City Showdown PPV, a tag match has been signed pitting Roberts and the Boss Man against Dibiase and Akeem. Will Jake and his new found ally be able to thwart Dibiase's nefarious plans once again or will the Million Dollar Man be laughing to the bank? The King and The Common ManOne of the big feuds to come out of the Royal Rumble is between "Macho King" Randy Savage and "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes. It all started when each of the men's respective managers, "Sensational Queen" Sherri and Sapphire, appeared on the Brother Love Show to each state why their representative would win the Royal Rumble match later. After being continuously insulted and berated by Sherri and Love, Sapphire couldn't take any more and slapped Sherri in the face. This brought out Savage who threatened Sapphire. Dusty would make the save and cleared the ring of both Savage and Love. Later on in the Royal Rumble match Rhodes would once again get the better of Savage as he tossed him over the top rope to eliminate him. Savage has been stewing ever since and has vowed to make Rhodes bow to the King the next time they meet. At the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event Motor City Showdown PPV he will have his chance when these two all time great collide one and one. How far along are you now in your watch through? I think you said a few months ago you were going to start watching old school WWF starting in 87 and going up to either 94 or 95 IIRC.

News and NotesHot Rod: Looking to make Bad News Yesterday's NewsAt Wrestlemania VI two of the toughest brawlers in the WWF will collide when "Rowdy" Roddy Piper takes on Bad News Brown. Problems between the two superstars started at the Royal Rumble. Going into the event Bad News was extremely confident in coming out victorious with his previous success in battle royals, most notably at Wrestlemania IV when he won the twenty man over the top rope event there. However perhaps Brown was a bit overconfident as he was caught off guard by the Hot Rod who threw the man from Harlem over the top rope with a backdrop. Enraged Brown then jumped up on the apron and pulled Piper over the top rope by his hair. Both men fiercely began exchanging punches and brawled all the way up the aisle way with officials being unable to separate them. On Wrestling Challenge the following week "Mean" Gene Okerlund conducted a podium interview with Brown who claimed his elimination in the Royal Rumble at the hands of Piper was a fluke before then proceeding to insult Piper's trademark skirt and claiming he would wipe the floor with him the next time he saw him. This would bring out Piper who charged the podium and tackled Bad News with officials once again having to come out to break things up. Recently at the last Saturday Night's Main Event Piper was in a steel cage match with "Ravishing" Rick Rude another man who he has been odds with although much longer then Brown as the two had been engaged in a long bitter rivalry that dated all the way back to the summer. Right when it looked Piper was about to win by escaping through the cage door, Brown would appear out of nowhere and slam the door on his head. This would allow Rude then to pull himself out the door to win the match. Piper is so hell bent on revenge that he's even agreed to fight Brown in his specialty match, the Harlem Street Fight, at Wrestlemania. With the match stipulation, the violent nature of both men, and the bad blood between them it will definitely be an encounter that won't be the faint of the heart. The Orient Express: Now Boarding the WWFIn 1934 the classic mystery novel Murder on the Orient Express was published. However when it comes to Mr. Fuji's new tag team from the far east, it's no mystery as to why they are now in the WWF. The Rockers, Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty, are two of the most popular stars in the WWF. With their good looks and exciting high flying wrestling style the young dynamic duo has earned tremendous adulation from both female and male fans alike. However they've also earned the detest of Fuji who has viewed them as a thorn in his side for quite some time. Time and time again the devious manager as tried to eliminate Michaels and Jannetty and time and time again he has failed. Even recently when he sicked his previous tag team, the behemoth tandem of the Powers of Pain, on the Rockers. However despite giving up tremendous size the Rockers were able to take the best shot of the Warlord and the Barbarian and live to tell the tale. Now Fuji has gone back to his home country to acquire two of Japan's finest, Sato and Tanaka, to take out the Rockers once and for all. Like the Rockers, Sato and Tanaka make up for lack of size with tremendous quickness and teamwork. Unlike the Rockers they are both very adapt in the martial arts and nefarious tactics. At Wrestlemania VI the Rockers and the Express will clash in a battle of the Federation's two most skilled teams. Will the Express finally spoil the Rockers party? Or will Mr. Fuji's newest acquisition be derailed just as they get out of station? Brutus The Barber: Out to Clip Mr. PerfectYet another rivalry to come out of the Royal Rumble is between Mr. Perfect and Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake. During the event Beefcake took on Mr. Perfect's advisor the Genius. Late in the contest the referee was knocked unconscious after the Genius whipped Beefcake into him. Beefcake would turn the tide and apply his patented sleeper hold on Genius, sending the self professed world's smartest man to slumber land. Unfortunately for Beefcake though the referee was still knocked out. The Barber then would decide to use this as an opportunity to go get his tools of trade and start cutting the Genius' hair. This brought out Perfect who then ambushed Beefcake from behind and busted him up with a steel chair, badly injuring the Barber's ribs. At the recent Saturday Night's Main Event Beefcake was once again the victim of another sneak attack from the flawless one. Right when it looked like Beefcake was about to polish off Rick "The Model" Martel, the Genius would come down to ringside. Genius would hop on the apron but was knocked off by Beefcake. However the intellectual had strategically left his metal scroll on the ring apron. Beefcake applied the sleeper hold on Martel but with the referee distracted by Genius, Perfect would clock the Barber on the back of his head with the scroll. Martel would then cover Beefcake to secure a tainted win. While it may seem like Perfect has been targeting Beefcake in defense of his friend there was also likely another reason. Beefcake is the best friend of WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan whom Perfect had recently been gunning for. Many feel Perfect was targeting Beefcake to get inside the champion's head and gain a psychological advantage. However if that's the case that plan has seemed to backfire. At the recent Saturday Night's Main Event Hogan successfully defended his championship against Perfect, ending his once perfect record in the proces. Not only did Perfect fail to win the title but now on top of that he now has to deal with irate Beefcake. The Barber is one of the premier superstars in the WWF in his own right and a loss to him will knock Perfect even further out of title contention. At Wrestlemania VI a match has been signed between Perfect and Beefcake. Will Perfect continue to get the upper hand or will he get another blemish on his once perfect record? Split DecisionMany were puzzled when Mr. Fuji's newest tag team of the Orient Express debuted. With Fuji managing the Powers of Pain many questioned Fuji bringing in another team since it would surely cause a conflict of interest. Things would quickly make sense the following week when it was revealed that Fuji had sold the contracts of both of the Powers of Pain. However the interesting thing about it was the fact that the sale wasn't a package deal. Instead the Warlord and the Barbarian had been sold separately to different managers. The Warlord will now be managed by Slick and the Barbarian will now be guided by Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. At six feet five inches tall and three hundred twenty pounds of rock solid muscle, the Warlord might possibly the strongest man in the World Wrestling Federation. There's little finesse with Warlord as he usually just overwhelms the competition with sheer brute force, pounding them into submission with clubbing blows and slams. The immense size and raw power possessed by Warlord is likely what drew Slick to him. Also perhaps Slick will look to add to Warlord's in ring repertoire to make him an even more dangerous threat. While not quite as big and powerful as Warlord; the Barbarian makes up for it by possessing perhaps greater in ring versatility then his former tag team partner. Barbarian is still a very big and strong man in his own right and on top of that also possesses tremendous agility and dexterity, often scaling the top rope and hurling his three hundred pound frame from great distance to destroy opponents with flying clotheslines and headbutts while also having the flexibility to get full extension of his leg to boot an opponent square in the face. Barbarian also possesses an incredible mean streak in that there seems to be no limits to what he will do to win a match. It's likely due to all these attributes why the Brain has been high on the Barbarian for quite a while and wanting to add him to his Family. Although many speculate that it may also be because he perhaps can be easier to "brain wash". Since both men have wrestled pretty much exclusively as a tag team, it will interesting to see how they each fare in the single ranks. Undoubtedly both possess qualities that will make them big threats in single competition for quite some time. RankingsSinglesHulk Hogan: WWF World Champpion(c) 302, Venice Beach, CA 1. After the match just as it seemed Warrior was going to clothesline Hogan, he instead stopped and ran backstage.

News and NotesThe Ultimate ChallengeAt Wrestlemania VI perhaps the greatest wrestling match of all time will take place when the two most powerful and popular stars in the World Wrestling Federation collide when WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan takes on WWF Intercontinental Champion the Ultimate Warrior. In a first both championships will on the line in the same match with the winner taking home all the gold. This has been a dream match for quite some time now. During the Warrior's meteoric rise to superstardom fans have wondered what would happen if he ever locked up with the Immortal Hulk Hogan. On paper they are about as evenly matched as any two wrestlers could be. Both men possess incredible strength. Both men possess incredible endurance and stamina. Both men are extremely popular with the fans and rely on crowd support. However despite being evenly matched they do each have some advantages on the other. Hogan has a size advantage of about thirty pounds and five inches in height which would certainly give him an advantage in leverage. Hulk also has the edge in experience which often is the difference maker, especially in matches with two evenly matched wrestlers. On the flip side the Warrior has the advantage in youth and speed. Also while both possess incredible strength the Warrior might have a slight edge in that department. Hulk and Warrior are the only two men to pull off the Herculean feat of bodyslamming the over five hundred pound eighth wonder of the world Andre The Giant. However the Warrior's slam is probably more impressive when you consider Andre was even bigger then he was when Hogan slammed him. Warrior's combination of power and speed is unmatched and it could be what wins it for him on April 1st in Toronto. Over the weeks both men have saved the other from attacks from the likes Mr. Perfect and the Genius and Dino Bravo and Earthquake, so that each will be at full strength come Wrestlemania and that there will be no excuses either way. Regardless who wins it will undoubtedly be a clash for the ages at Wrestlemania when the two most powerful forces in the WWF universe collide title for title in the Ultimate Challenge! Walking Natural DisasterSince debuting in the World Wrestling Federation last fall, there's perhaps been no superstar who has made such an impact in such a short period of time as Earthquake. Originally brought into the WWF by Dino Bravo to aid him in his feud with the Ultimate Warrior, Earthquake has been starting to make a name for himself on his own while also carving out a reputation as the Federation's most feared superstar. Since joining the WWF the burly Canadian has been leaving a trail of broken bodies in his wake, demolishing any opponent who dares to step into the ring by squashing them with his Earthquake Splash finisher. If that wasn't bad enough he gives them another splash which he calls the Aftershock. Nobody has been able to walk out of the ring after a match with Earthquake as they've all been carried from the ring on a stretcher. In just four months the four hundred sixty eight pounder has hospitalized twenty three opponents. As the list of victims continue to grow so does the speculation as to who will be able to stop this huge and sadistic individual? Perhaps that man could be Hercules. At Wrestlemania VI Earthquake will face his toughest competition so far when he goes one on one with the mighty one. Hercules possesses incredible strength and in his long career in the WWF has compiled an impressive win-loss record. However at Wrestlemania it will probably be one of the few times in his career where he will be going in as an underdog as not only is he giving up a tremendous size to the Earthquake but there's also many who feel he won't be able to match him in strength either which is something Hercules has always prided himself on. However he will have an advantage in quickness and maybe if uses that instead of trying to rely on sheer strength he might be able to sneak past the big man. Or perhaps he could end up like the rest of Earthquake's opponents and taking the long stretcher ride to the ambulance. Full Steam AheadAnother big man making big waves in the WWF as of late is Tugboat Thomas. Since joining the Federation, the Norfolk, Virgina native has been very impressive. The near four hundred pound sailor has made quick work of all his opponents so far as he's overwhelmed them with his size and strength while also showing surprising agility with moves such as the standing dropkick. One man in particular who been very impressed by the Tugster is none other then the WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan who has taken the youngster under his wing. With a spotless record and the stamp of approval from the Hulkster things having been smooth sailing so far for the newcomer. However the waters might start to get murky once the sailing superstar starts taking on stiffer competition in the form of some of the other super heavyweights in the Federation like Akeem and Earthquake. Regardless Tugboat will surely meet any of these battles head on. Why Have Confidence When You Can Have Arrogance?Rick "The Model" Martel has literally taken his arrogance to another level by now modeling his own cologne called......well arrogance. Claiming it's today's man in a classic can the conceited superstar carries the fragrance in an atomizer. According to Martel he's using it to disenfect the WWF of the bad odor provided by the likes of Koko B. Ware's parrot Frankie and Jake "The Snake" Roberts python Damien. There are many analysts in the WWF such as Gorilla Monsoon who are questioning the Model's priorities. They can't understand why someone with the skills and conditioning of Martel is "wasting his time" with Arrogance when he should be devoting more time to forming a plan to become a champion. There is no doubt Martel has all the ability to become a big player in the WWF. However if he's not focused there's plenty of superstars who could easily humble the arrogant one if he's not careful.

News and NotesHulkamania Dead? The immortal Hulk Hogan is the kind of wrestler who comes along once in a lifetime. With his massive strength, heartfelt sense of sportsmanship, and unmatched fan following, the Hulkster as remained at the top of the WWF for nearly a decade. Hogan's wrestling career has been unparalleled both in success and notoriety. Unfortunately his illustrious career now may be over. About a week before Wrestlemania VI, Hogan who at that time was WWF World Champion, took on "Canadian Strongman" Dino Bravo. Many questioned the wisdom of Hogan taking on an opponent as dangerous Bravo only a week before his big championship defense against the Ultimate Warrior. However Bravo angered about Hogan saving Warrior from a two on one attack at the hands of him and his ally Earthquake, had challenged him and never one to back down and not wanting to let down his Hulkamaniacs, Hulk accepted the match. After about six minutes Hogan soundly defeated the big French Canadian after using utilizing his big boot and legdrop off the ropes combo that has put away so many opponents over the years. Unfortunately for Hogan he was ambushed afterwards by Earthquake. After slamming Hogan and dropping a few elbow drops on him, Earthquake ran off the ropes and then delivered his devastating Earthquake splash, dropping all of his 468 pounds on Hogan's chest. Fortunately before Earthquake could deliver an aftershock, the Warrior ran out and floored the behemoth with a clothesline to knock him out of the ring, both returning the favor for Hogan saving him weeks before and making sure his opponent would make it to Wrestlemania VI. However maybe the damage was already done. Hogan was defeated by Warrior at Wrestlemania and Quake began taking credit for it as he claimed Hogan wasn't one hundred percent after taking his Earthquake splash the week before. Never one to make excuses Hogan denied while being willing to admit that he lost fair and square and Warrior was simply the better man that night. On the April 21st episode of WWF Superstars, Hogan and Earthquake were scheduled to meet face to face on the Brother Love Show. However after Hogan made his entrance, only Earthquake's manager, Jimmy Hart, came out to confront Hulk. Jimmy said Earthquake was sick with the flu and couldn't be there before running down Hulk for being a has-been. The trap had been sprung. Before Hogan could deck the Mouth of the South, Earthquake came running out and clobbered from behind with a steel chair. Quake then proceeded to deliver three straight Earthquake splashes. Officials rushed out to tend to Hogan and force Earthquake backstage, but the damage had been done. Hogan was left laying clutching his sternum and ribs in pain before being loaded onto a stretcher and taken to the hospital, his body and spirit broken. It is being speculated whether Hogan career and Hulkamania itself are both over. One man who is determined to not let that happen is his protege Tugboat. Tugboat has started a "Get Well Hulk Campaign" in which he has encouraged the Hulkamaniacs to send in letters to Hulk to lift his spirits and will him towards returning to the ring. Time will tell if that ends up being the case. Fighting ChampionWrestlemania VI marked the dawn of new era in the World Wrestling Federation with the Ultimate Warrior defeating Hulk Hogan to win the World Wrestling Federation Championship in what might have possibly been the greatest match in company history. The match lived up to the hype and then some with both men going back and forth in a titanic struggle for close to twenty five matches. Ultimately it would be the Warrior who prevailed after moving out of the way of Hogan's signature legdrop finishing move and immediately capitalizing with a big splash for the win. Showing the true class of a champion, the Hulkster shook Warrior's hand and presented him with the World Title Belt. Filling the shoes of Hogan, who many consider the greatest WWF World Champion of all time, will be quite the task. However the Warrior is up to the challenge and vows to carry the title with as much honor and be as much of a fighting champion as Hogan was. Warrior knows as the new champion he has a big bullseye on his back as all the top challengers will be gunning for him. Being a champion is no stranger to the Warrior as he's held the Intercontinental Championship for the better part of the past two years, so he realizes this comes with the territory of being a titlist. With an unmatched combination of strength and intensity along with the wave of momentum coming from defeating Hogan, it would be a safe bet that the Warrior likely won't be losing his newly won championship any time soon. Hart Foundation: Tag Team Championship Only a Heartbeat Away?Since rejoining forces at the beginning of the year, the Hart Foundation has been on an unbelievable roll. The former World Wrestling Federation Tag Team Champions have steamrolled every opponent they've faced with the biggest statement being their recent 18 second thrashing of the Russian Bolshevikis at Wrestlemania VI. They've made it no secret that they want a World Tag Title Shot against Demolition as they've publicly challenged the champions. Always one to reward good work, WWF President Jack Tunney has granted them their wish as with their recent hot streak they've been deemed #1 Contenders and will challenge Demolition on the next Saturday Night's Main Event PPV, The Tussle in Texas. Demolition has been the most successful tag team in the WWF the last few years however the Harts are former champions and with their ongoing winning streak are wrestling with incredible confidence at the moment. What makes the match interesting is that both are teams are fan favorites and among the most popular in the WWF. However despite each teams current fan favorite status they both aren't shy about bending the rules from time to time and doing whatever it takes to win, which will make their upcoming match even more intriguing. White Collar Crime versus Blue Collar JusticeSince coming to the WWF "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase has claimed time and time again that "Everybody has a price". However he's currently at odds with one man who may not have a price. Back in February fans were shocked when the Big Boss Man refused Dibiase's dirty money to help him take out Jake Roberts and decided to back the Snake instead. A man who puts integrity and morality on the same level as life itself, the Boss Man stands by the laws of the land and punishes those who chose to disregard them. At the moment Dibiase is undoubtedly on top of his most wanted list. Especially after what happened at Wrestlemania VI when Dibiase, who was hiding under the ring after regaining his Million Dollar Championship from Roberts in the previous match, ambushed Boss Man from behind before his encounter with formrer tag team partner Akeem. Dibiase pummeled Boss Man before rolling him into the ring to a waiting Akeem. Remarkably Boss Man would recover and manage to defeat the big African Dream after catching him coming off the ropes with his Boss Man Slam finishing maneuver. Despite the victory Boss Man was still enraged afterwards due to Dibiase's sneak attack and is even more determined to prove to the Million Dollar Man that "crime doesn't pay". Intercontinental Championship TournamentAt Wrestlemania VI history was made when the Ultimate Warrior became the first man to hold both the WWF World and Intercontinental Championships at the same time after defeating Hulk Hogan in the Ultimate Challenge Title Unification match. However since it is obvious no one man can properly fulfill the requirements of both title defenses at the same time, the Warrior has been forced to relinquish the Intercontinental Championship. WWF President Jack Tunney has declared the title vacant and furthermore has ordered a sixteen man elimination tournament to determine the new champion. Here is the tournament bracket and first round pairings: Santana---------- - - ------------------------------- - - Akeem------------ Piper------------ - - ------------------------------- - - Dibiase---------- Hacksaw---------- - - -------------------------------- - - Barbarian-------- Hercules--------- - - -------------------------------- - - Model------------ Snake------------ - - --------------------------------- - - Bad News--------- Boss Man--------- - - --------------------------------- - - Perfect---------- Barber----------- - - --------------------------------- - - Warlord---------- Superfly--------- - - --------------------------------- - - Bravo------------ RankingsSinglesThe Ultimate Warrior: WWF World Champion(1) 275, Parts Unknown 1. News and NotesThe Perfect PlanThere's a new Intercontinental Champion in the WWF. After previous Champion the Ultimate Warrior was forced to relinquish the title after also winning the World Championship at Wrestlemania VI, WWF President Jack Tunney declared a tournament with sixteen of the top WWF Superstars to determine the new champion. When the smoke cleared Mr. Perfect emerged as the winner and possessor of the prestigous championship. However it would be easy to deem Perfect's path to the championship tainted. In the first round he defeated the Big Boss Man by count out and then in the quarterfinals defeated Jake "The Snake" Roberts. Stiff competition for sure but in both instances he had luck on his side as in both of those bouts rivals of those opponents (Ted Dibiase against Boss Man and Bad News Brown against Roberts) interfered and Perfect merely just took advantage. In the semifinal round Perfect was set to face the winner of the Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake and Dino Bravo bout. Both would provide very formidable competition but of the two Beefcake was a match it would be easy to assume Perfect wanted no part of with the Barber having just recently defeated him at Wrestlemania VI. This is where strategy and scheming started to come to play from Perfect as well a mastermind ally who at that point wasn't known. After going back and forth for several minutes Beefcake started to get the upperhand on the Canadian Strongman and seemed to be closing in on victory. However then Perfect came strolling out to ringside right as Beefcake applied the sleeper hold. As the referee was distracted by Bravo's manager, Jimmy Hart, Perfect reached into the ring and pulled by Brutus by his tights which then caused both Beefcake and Dino to spill out to the outside. Beefcake fought off Perfect and then Bravo as well, however as he went to get back into the ring to beat the ten count, Perfect grabbed onto his leg while hidden from the referee by the ring apron. As a result Beefcake couldn't make it back into the ring on time and both him and Bravo were eliminated from the tournament as a result of a double count out. While unethical it was a very shrewd strategy on Perfect's part as he killed two birds with one stone. He avoided facing perhaps the biggest threat in his quest to the title in Beefcake and on top of that with the double count out result ensured he would have no opponent in the semifinals and get a bye straight to the finals. In the finals Perfect faced veteran stalwart Tito Santana. Santana, a former Intercontinental Champion, matched up well with Perfect in size, quickness, and wrestling knowledge. Santana was also riding on a lot of momentum after scoring upset wins over Akeem and Rick "The Model" Martel to advance to the finals. Perfect however had an ace up his sleeve. Right when it looked Santana was on his way to victory and becoming the Intercontinental Champion an unprecidented third time, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan appeared ringside. Heenan's appearance was puzzling as up until this point he had no association with either one of the competitors in the ring. However his intentions would quickly become crystal clear. When Santana went to apply a figure four leglock, Heenan jumped up on the apron. Santana took a swing at the nefarious manager but Heenan jumped off the apron to avoid it. Perfect like he had in his previous tournament wins quickly seized the moment as he leveled Santana in the face with a devestating clothesline and then snared him into his Perfect Plex cradle suplex finisher to score the pinfall and win the championship. Perfect and Heenan's plan had been executed to perfection. After the match Perfect announced Heenan as his new "Perfect Manager" before the two celebrated their triumph. While Perfect has always been someone seemingly destined for great things, now that he has most coniving manager in the WWF in his corner there's no telling to how great of heights the arrogant superstar will ascend. The Tough Guy's Toughest Challenge: Can Duggan stop the Earthquake?Nobody has been safe from the Earthquake since he entered the WWF. The walking natural disaster has sealed the caskets on several careers with the latest casualty possibly being Hulk Hogan who may never return after the horrific beating he received from the ruthless monster. A six foot seven and 468 pound mountain of a man who shakes the grouond he walks on and makes opponents tremble in fear, Earthquake has quickly become the most feared man in the federation. However there's one man who doesn't appear to be afraid of Earthquake. That man is none other then "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. The brawny brawler from Glens Falls, New York like so many others has been a victim of Earthquake's brutal attacks. At Wrestlemania VI after Hacksaw had defeated Earthquake's ally, Dino Bravo, the Quake attacked Duggan from behind. Duggan tried to get to his 2x4 but Quake kicked it away to the outside before brutalizing the proud American with two Earthquake splashes. Never one to forgive and forget Duggan vowed to get even on Earthquake for this attack. Recently on an episode of WWF Superstars of Wrestling, Earthquake had notched yet another victory over an overmatched foe. However before he could deliver an aftershock, Duggan rushed to the ring with his 2x4 and got in a couple of good licks in on Quake who scurried from the ring. It was the first time anyone had ever made Earthquake retreat. However at the same time it's easy to wonder if that would've been the case if Duggan didn't have a 2x4. At the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event PPV The Tussle In Texas, Duggan will have an opportunity to prove he can get the better of Earthquake without a weapon when the two competitors go one on one. Will Duggan be able to get revenge for both himself and his friend the Hulkster? Or will the Earthquake send another opponent to an early retirement? All Shook UpMany questioned how effective the Honky Tonk Man and Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, collectively known as Rhythm and Blues, would be as a tag team. While it's hard to question the individual talents of each man given both are former Intercontinental Champions, geling together together as a team and putting aside both of their large egos aside was something many thought would be too much of a problem. However so far that hasn't been the case from the "Colonel" Jimmy Hart led duo who have shook, rattled, and rolled all over competition. Many would attribute this success to Hart who has done a great job getting his two men on the same page and working together as a team. He's even convinced Valentine to dye his trademark long blonde hair to jet black so that he looks like the Honky Tonk Man now. Honky and the Hammer have also made a pair of two dangerous enemies in the Bushwhackers. On an episode of Supestars of Wrestling the two teams were supposed to do battle in an all important tag team match up. However the match never even got under way as Honky and Hammer ambushed the duo from New Zealand before the bell and launched a violent attack on them in which they used their guitars to beat them down and leave them laying. At Wrestlemania the Bushwhackers would get even when they interuppted Rhythm and Blues live performance of their new single "Hunka Hunka Honky Love". Diguised as concessionaires, the Bushwhackers rushed the ring and quickly knocked both Rhythm and Blues out of it. Luke and Butch then proceeded to smash Honky and Hammer's guitars into pieces. At the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event The Tussle in Texas, this tag team rivalry will likely be resolved as the two teams are signed to face off. Will Rhythm and Blues add to their collection of greatest hits or will the Bushwhackers send them to heartbreak hotel? The New and Improved Ravishing Rick RudeLike Greg Valentine, "Ravishing" Rick Rude has also adopted a new hair style as he's chopped off his curly long locks in favor of a shorter hairstyle. However it's not the new haircut that has has potential future opponents concerned. Along with his new haircut, the Ravishing One also seems to have a new attitude as well. No more posing. No more hip swivling. No more Rude Awakening Kisses to female fans after victories. The new no nonsense Rick Rude was on full display at Wrestlemania VI when he took on "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka. Rude was much more aggressive and intense then he had ever been in the past. And also even more sharp in the ring as well as he executed every blow and manuever with pinpoint precision while seemingly having a counter for everything the Superfly had to offer. It would take Rude only four minutes to dispatch Snuka after swiftly avoiding a diving headbutt by rolling out of the away and then putting away the man from the Fiji Islands with the "Rude Awakening" Neckbreaker. Never before had the Superfly been so soundly defeated. Since Wrestlemania Rude has continued to rack up win after win and has now been deemed #1 Contender to the Ultimate Warrior's newly won World Championship with the match scheduled to take place at the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event Tussle in Texas PPV. Rude has now become even more intense and focused as he's embarked on a highly intense training regimine in preperation for his big opporunity. Rude is the only man on record to ever pin the Ultimate Warrior for a three count when he defeated him to win the Intercontiental Championship at Wrestlemania V. With the confidence coming from knowing he can beat Warrior and at the same time being more focused then he's ever been before, maybe lightning will strike twice. However the Warrior has become an even better wrestler in the last year and coming off defeating Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania is even more tougher to defeat then ever. Is the new and improved Rick Rude for real? Or will he just merely be the fist of many successful defenses for the new champion?
