I'm sure most reading this know HBK's story by now, but there will be spoilers below. For those who want to watch the DVD without being spoiled on anything, I'll just say it's well worth a purchase. As for details....
They spent a lot more time on the Rockers portion of Shawn's career than I expected so that was a nice surprise. Gave a very detailed run down of their time in the territories, getting fired by WWE the first time, and the work it took to come back. Shawn tells this great story about stepping in to Vince's office and Vince complimenting him on his boots and saying "those are made for walking you know...", and getting let go the first time. They show the Barbershop segment with himself and Marty, they discuss Shawn winning the IC Championship, and his steroid suspension which led to the double belt ladder match at Mania X.
Shawn's drug problems as a whole are brought up numerous times, as well as his partying lifestyle back in the day. They don't really hold back in talking about how big of an asshole Shawn was and how impossible he was to work with once he reached the top in the mid 90s. McMahon, Patterson, DiBiase, and others comment on plenty of times where they would tell Shawn to do one thing and he'd flat out say "no, we're doing this." They spend a good 10-15 minutes talking about the Kliq and how influential they were in the company at the time. The MSG Curtain Call is broken down from the point of view of Triple H, Shawn, Vince, and Pat Patterson. They discuss who wanted what, who was OK with what, who really got pissed off at it, etc. Vince admits to HHH getting buried as punishment during that period as well.
While Undertaker is never mentioned by name in relation to it, it is mentioned that Shawn reaaaaaally didn't want to drop the belt to Austin at Mania 14 despite his bad back and knowing he was going to have to leave. They show footage of Shawn showing up at the Post-Wrestlemania press conference and kicking the door open as he leaves with Shane there. Something I never knew that is talked about is that on the Raw in which Vince purchased WCW and the show was simulcast, Shawn wandered in to an office where Taker, HHH, and others were watching and Shawn was drugged out of his mind. He made a clown out of himself, pissed off Taker, and that was when Vince decided that he wasn't worth dealing with on any level any longer and let him go from any role in the company until his 2002 return. Apparently in that time period Shawn and Triple H got in a massive fight and didn't speak for nearly a year. Kevin Nash is actually who got Shawn to call Hunter and reconcile.
Shawn's wife discusses him waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to remember eating cookies with his son earlier in the evening, and that being when he realized he had to get himself cleaned up. As you would expect they talk about Shawn finding religion and getting his life turned around.
The last 1/4 or 1/3 of the documentary is based on his 02-07 run. They spent a surprising amount of time focusing on the Jericho match at Mania 19. Much more time than they did on his return match against HHH. They put the match and Jericho over huge. The rest of the HHH feud and 04-05 is totally glossed over, EXCEPT for the Hogan feud. I'll be blunt, Hogan is totally buried here. Those who comment think Shawn should have gone over, that Hogan wouldn't do business, that Hogan wasn't being straight with them in terms of what to do with the program, and everything else. I forgot who, but someone says it's probably the best match Hogan has ever had, and that's thanks to Shawn going at as high a level as he did for that match.
They pick back up in 06 with the McMahon feud and the return of DX. Jericho really buried the entire God angle for Backlash, and I believe Dibiase really didn't have much good to say about it either (though I could actually be wrong there. I'm going off memory).
Shawn and HHH talk about how uncomfortable Shawn was with a lot of the things DX did. They show the clip of HHH saying "Isn't that Mr. Fuji?" and Shawn running off so the girls can flash. JR says he thinks this DX could have been bigger than the original.
The last major thing that is covered is Shawn vs Cena from Wrestlemania 23. HHH flat out says it was supposed to be Cena and himself in the match, but that he got hurt. They show the injury from NYR and show Shawn winning the #1 contendership. Shawn puts over Cena, says he really likes him, and JR says he hopes it isn't the last time they meet at Wrestlemania.
I skipped over a lot of things including them going in depth in to the first run of DX, the Diesel/Shawn feud, the Montreal Screwjob, and a few other things. Do they talk Shawn up a lot? Of course they do. However, they are very fair and balanced in discussing his shortcomings. Jericho is all over this DVD, at times seemingly as much as HHH. The documentary runs a little over 2 hours and was a great watch. I'd highly recommend it.
