I still like him but yeah, it offended me a bit too. He should have atleast calling himself The Rock. I mean, us Raw fans don't know him as Dwayne Johnson. We know him as the Rock, so he should call himself by what we know him as. I don't have a problem with him doing it in his movies, but this was a message to the WWE fans... "Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson'" would have been passable... He's an ACTOR now, not a wrestler. Why should he have to call himself by his wrestling name?

The singer Sting is credited as Sting when he acts. Probably because Gordon sounds like a jackoff that parks your car. Oh and Cher is credited as Cher even in the list for winners of an Oscar.

Did you see the "celebrities" at the WWE Oscar Party... to make it in show biz you need to be as far away from wrestling as possible.

HE'S NOT A WRESTLER ANYMORE.
That being said - given the fact that he is a FORMER wrestler - it makes sense for him to promote his movies on RAW.
Also, let's not talk down on the guy. Like it or not, Disney's one of the biggest companies in the world. He's not a "B-Movie" actor. He's had several successful movies and some clunkers, that's just how the industry works - every actor has his hits and misses. Johnson's just getting started.

Likewise with Ludacris. IT.DOES.NOT.MATTER.

I didn't mind him going by his name -- that IS his name after all -- but I can see how some fans might be offended. After all, he WAS advertising his movie following Raw, and it just came off as he'd rather not be associated with WWE if he didn't have to.
They used him after Raw to appeal to the Raw audience, whom were likely hoping to see "The Rock" -- not Dwayne Johnson.

Go full on promo and do all of his old catchphrases just to appease people who get butt hurt over him deciding to do something else with his life?

Fine. If hes an actor now, he can GTFO our network Yeah! USA Network is for wrestling fans and wrestlers who can't do anything better with their life! WOOOO! CLAP IT UP? I agree with you, but I can see the other perspective on the grounds that they're using wrestling fans to be promoted to via DJ when he wants to distance himself from wrestling entirely, thus it feels somewhat hypocritical. No one would mind otherwise if he didn't say "hey RAW fans." It's kind of like if your friend leaves you when you need him, he comes back when he needs a meal, and then he abandons you again, because he's kind of waving himself like a dangled carrot for that specific demographic but in truth he could give a shit about it. But then, that's business. So the argument's moot.

I love The Rock, but even I'll admit he cut that promo like Peta Wilson for Le Femme Nikita. It was like he went out of his way not to be in character.

Well... it wouldn't have even been brought to my attention if he didn't say "Hey Raw fans...", so yeah. You can tell that to "Dwayne" that the USA network isn't for wrestling fans and wrestlers who can't do anything better with their life! WOOOO!

no all im saying is... if hes "moved on" and is a serious Hollywood actor now, then how's come when he came back to do the Hall of Fame, he was going by "The Rock"
I dont have any problem with him using his real name in the promo, but the fact is, to me atleast in the promo he came across as never having anything at all to do with the business. You know, the business that GAVE HIM the oppurtunity to become the "serious hollywood actor" that he wants to be so badly.
For the casual fan of his movies whom only knows him as Dwayne Johnson there was nothing wrong with that promo, but that would be like watching an episode of Raw or Smackdown and say Hogan was in Rock's shoes..
"Hey Raw Fans, Im Terry Bollea and im hear to give you a sneak peek at my new movie"... to the casual fan whom would only know them as movie stars no harm taken, I find offense in the fact that it was directed at his CORE audience.. Rock can claim to be bigger than wrestling and a hollywood star now but ALOT of wrestling fans go see his movies... As a promo aired during a wrestling show...i was offended in the way he came across.....
Hulk Hogan will always be known as hulk hogan to wrestling fans Dwayne Johnson will always be known as the Rock to wrestling fans......
plus to me it seems like rock only wants something to do with wrestling when he can benefit somewhere... to further his career or "pimp" a movie he has coming out

But then, that's business. So the argument's moot. But it's not like this is the first time USA is promoting a movie through Raw. Raw is one of their biggest draws so of course movie companies want to promote their movie during the show. Is it wrong for a commercial starring Michael Jordan to air during an NBA game? Is it wrong for a commercial starring Joe Montana to air during an NFL game? No, it's just smart advertising. I doubt Dwayne went to USA Network and went "OHHHH ADVERTISE MY MOVIE ON RAW, ALL THE MARKS WILL LOVE IT!!!!" The movie company realized he was a former wrestler and wanted to help promote the movie. It's natural marketing and people need to lighten up.

And I'm not watching the rest of the network, but somehow I don't think he's coming on during Burn Notice to address "hey, Burn Notice fans! It's me, this guy you probably don't give a excretory matter about!" I already said I agreed, but I'm just saying there is another side of the argument that's legitimate, it's just a complaints made at the expense of the fact that business is frankly an unfair animal. People are entitled to complain about something like that, even if it can't change anything. If this is problematic for you, you're entitled to leave the thread. Nor do Michael Jordan and Joe Montana avoid connection to their former professions like the plague until it's convenient. Your comparison is silly.

i agree but if they were marketing towards the wrestling fan a simple... "hey, its dwayne Johnson the "People Champ" or something along those lines. If your marketing something towards your CORE audience you should include something to draw the fans in and get their attention. No it wouldnt be wrong for Michael Jordan commercial to air during an NBA game.....but i guarantee you that in that commercial Jordan would be wearing a Chicago Bulls Jersey or showing some of his Bulls Highlights because thats what people want to see and thats what first comes to mind when people think Michael Jordan!......They think Chicago Bulls, Domination, 72 wins.......They dont think Washington Wizards, Baseball, White Sox... they are smart because in the ads they are giving you core fans of Jordan what they want and how they remeber Jordan as.... Wrestling fans dont remeber the Rock for his role in Doom or because he goes by his real name now, they will always knows him as the Rock. If this promo aired during any other telecast no harm now foul, but as a wrestling fan, seeing a former wrestler, having a commercial for his new movie during a wrestling show and for it to have not one single thing dealing with his past or how he go to where he is... it pissed me off its the exact same situation.. but anyways.. Booo on Rock and the ppl who made the commercial
