I love The Rock but I don't care about Dwayne Johnson unless he's involved in wrestling somehow...
It's not that he called himself by his real name, hell John Cena goes by his real name in the ring. But it's the fact that he acted like he wasn't a wrestler WHILE speaking to a wrestling audience as the OP said.

Me too! But that's about the annoying guy who littered WWF/E TV for a couple of years with his lousy catchphrases... But Dwayne Johnson has every right to call himself whatever he pleases, as he's not "the Rock" anymore. Especially if he's NOT on WWE TV, or speaking about something he made under The Rock monicker. Dwayne Johnson doesn't owe the wrestling business a thing anymore. As long as he doesn't forget what and who helped him becoming a B/C-list celebrity/actor, he can go out and promote his movies as Blubber McFlubber for all I care. But said "respect" to his roots doesn't have to be brought up every other interview. And, AFAICT, Johnson never spoke ill of the wrestling business. So if he's happy being an actor, and that's his long-term plan, moving on, and away from being The Rock is a smart choice. He's making movies, and money. Great for him. He's off my TV. Great for me.

John Cena feels like I do What I don't understand is when I hear people in our business, and not just him, say "I've wanted to do this all of my life" - but they're not willing to put forth the commitment and the dedication it takes to be a success here. And Rock is one of those guys who gave the "I've wanted to do this all of my life" speech, but in actuality he wanted to be an actor. Now, trust me, that is totally fine with me. It's OK. But just don't say one thing and do another. Because our fans are extremely loyal and when you do that it p***es them off.

Why doesn't he advertise after another program on another network if he doesn't want to even connect himself to wrestling?

no all im saying is... if hes "moved on" and is a serious Hollywood actor now, then how's come when he came back to do the Hall of Fame, he was going by "The Rock" You are mistaken. Dwayne never referred to himself as The Rock when he came back for the HOF. In fact he was introduced at the HOF by Todd Grisham as Dwayne Johnson(while going n to say "He always be known to us as The Rock.") All "The Rock" mentions came from WWE.

And funny thing, Rock did more than enough to become a huge success in the business, he just went for what is, on all accounts, a much better job. He was certainly far better known in his peak than Cena will be. Wrestling fans may be loyal, they also suffer from a serious entitlement complex. Why doesn't he advertise after another program on another network if he doesn't want to even connect himself to wrestling? Because the studio wanted to advertise on USA? Does the fact that Raw is on it mean no advertisements should be allowed on it?

Which is funny considering how recently Cena said how he wanted to be the "Next Big Action Star" which could only be done if he stepped away from the business just like what the person he badmouthed did.

Mcmahon. Taker, Kane, Dx...helll Billy Freaking Gunn was hella over in the late 90's..... Off topic but am I the only one who read this and thought "f***t that shit, HERE COMES MONGO!"

He can call himself what he wants.
IT DOESN'T MATTER.
It's not like your average Joe non-wrestling fan has the faintest idea who "Dwayne Johnson, B-Movie Bit Part Guy" is anyway.

if he came down the ramp or appeared on the titan tron as dwayne i would be mad. but he's an actor that is semi-popular with the non -jaded non-internet wrestling fan promoting a movie now. he has all the right to get credit as his own name. it's facial recognition not name recognition that rocky or dwayne needs to worry about.

I think what they were getting at was the fact that he advertised purposely DURING Raw, and he addressed the Raw audience in specific (it wasn't "Hey, everyone who may be watching!").
Not so much that it was on the USA network itself and just HAPPENED to be on during Raw.

I must say after skimming through five pages worth of comments, i'm amazed that something so small and petty like this has caused such a big thread! Does it matter what name he uses?! Really? Cause the smart money says that if he announced himself as The Rock, you would then have someone complain that he's using the Rock's name to sell something to us, when he has no intention of coming back to the WWE! Good Gravy he would be leading us on by doing that!
Seriously, get over it! He's moved on from the business, I think its about time a lot of people begin to move on to.

I watched the promo last night and thought for 2 seconds, "Why did he refer to himself as Dwayne Johnson?". Then it occurred to me that since he doesn't work for the WWE anymore he can't use nicknames, catchphrases, etc. connected to The Rock character.
Then I had a turkey sandwich and didn't think about it anymore.
You wanna be offended/up in arms about this? Blame the guy who trademarked his name.

The Rock is done with wrestling as he says so it must mean he don't need me the wrestling fan anymore?
Seeing as this movie looks like a pile of **** hes gonna come back to fallout fans. I guess thats what wrestling fans are to some wrestlers who want to go be in the movies.
Things may look grim for a pick and my supposed fanbase outside of wrestling aint noticing. What do to? Wrestling fans! They'll always love you! Right?
Bigtime movie star with your fans? GO advertise to them for your crappy movie!

Not so much that it was on the USA network itself and just HAPPENED to be on during Raw. He's not an A-list actor, I highly doubt he has anything to do with determining where the movie was advertised. Disney likely told him he was doing it, and he did it. The idea that people can get offended by him calling himself by his own name is baffling.
