Something seems really odd about this whole story. Papers are now saying that he hanged himself, and was found with a band around his neck, but the original report was that a friend found him on the bathroom floor. Both can be true.

Heard the news on the radio this morning, great way to start work. I used to play in a band where we covered both Like a Stone and You Know My Name. Brilliant songs. RIP

Really speaks to the complexity of human life that someone like Cornell, who had one of the biggest bands in the world, left that and started another one, had a family, probably didn't have to worry about money for decades is still so discontent to a point of taking his own life. Really sad. Same goes for someone like Robin Williams. Depression doesn't care about your status in life, it doesn't care about what you've accomplished or the lives that you've touched from your work. Its a horrible condition that I wouldn't wish upon anybody.

I have had my moments where I felt like giving up because I was so mentally tired. Depression just sucks

Well, with Robin Williams I think that was more about his diagnosis with things, almost like Richard Farnsworth he didn't want to live in pain or deteriorate.
Chris? I don't know..he kicked his habits, seemed happy with his wife and kids, he stayed relevant with Audioslave and Soundgarden. Sometimes I guess you just long for something that you can't have. I know that can really eat at someone.

Like yeah he has a documentated history of depression and suffering from Lewy Body Dementia is a terrible disease that can break anyone into depression.

This sucks. I've seen Soundgarden a couple of times but really hoped for an Audioslave reunion and tour as I had never seen them. With the Prophets Of Rage thing happening I thought we were closer to it. RIP Chris

Ah man, this is just proof that you never know what's on People's minds, someone who seems happy on the outside maybe holding personal demons on the inside..very tragic indeed And Pretty Noose was always one of my personal favourite Soundgarden songs as well. This whole thing just sucks.

Sucks. Hopefully he at least left a note so that those that love him can at least try to understand.

Heard bout this early this AM. A shame as he was such a unique talent. Popped Superunknown in truck cd player on the way to work. Great album.

Sad day feel like I grew up with him. I was a teenager living in Seattle when the grunge era was thriving. Soundgarden was the first grunge band signed to a major label. Cornell was really the glue ( if you will) that out grunge together. He introduced Vedder to the other pearl jam guys. He was just a stand up guy he used to gather orphans and throw them a huge Christmas party every year. I'll miss him R.I.P

I'm not one to get all super pissed off about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but you just know they're gonna induct Soundgarden next year, even though they've been eligible since at least 2013 and the Hall didn't seem even remotely interested in acknowledging them with even a nomination before.
They'll trip over themselves to induct some artists on the first year they were eligible, even though they came afterwards, but they snub artists who are more than worthy for years for "reasons".
Maybe it would have been nice to do it while Chris was still here to hear you appreciated him, guys.

I don't think they will put Soundgarden in because the Hall very much hates metal, with Black Sabbath and Metallica being the lone exceptions.

So many Soundgarden/Audioslave songs deal with self loathing, self harming, and suicide it's honestly a little uncomfortable. He basically had it all its hard to imagine someone like him taking their own life or not even liking himself but depression (if that's what he was dealing with) and whatever he had going on are a mother. The outpour of support that's been show today has crossed genres and decades of music, he was such a loved person. I don't know what I'm trying to say with this it just seems so surreal and is utterly tragic. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.

Listening to "Like a Stone" is more chilling now than it already was. Gutted by this news. Can't imagine what his wife is going through right now. R.I.P.

Maybe the friend took him down and tried to save him, but didn't want to admit Christ took that way out.
