So many Soundgarden/Audioslave songs deal with self loathing, self harming, and suicide it's honestly a little uncomfortable. He basically had it all its hard to imagine someone like him taking their own life or not even liking himself but depression (if that's what he was dealing with) and whatever he had going on are a mother. The outpour of support that's been show today has grossed genres and decades of music, he was such a loved person. I don't know what I'm trying to say with this it just seems so surreal and is utterly tragic. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family. Listening to "Like a Stone" is more chilling now than it already is. Gutted by this news. R.I.P. I can think of a Sound Garden song that might be worse now... I won't be mentioning the title in case anyone thinks I'm making light of the situation.

I'm not one to get all super pissed off about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but you just know they're gonna induct Soundgarden next year, even though they've been eligible since at least 2013 and the Hall didn't seem even remotely interested in acknowledging them with even a nomination before. They'll trip over themselves to induct some artists on the first year they were eligible, even though they came afterwards, but they snub artists who are more than worthy for years for "reasons". Maybe it would have been nice to do it while Chris was still here to hear you appreciated him, guys. I can understand wanting to put Nirvana in first, but even if they didn't want to do them back to back years, Nirvana have been eligible since 2013, so Soundgarden could have been in 3 times by now.

This is still so weird to me. He was so critical of Kurt Cobain for, in Cornell's own words, "blowing his brains out". Here we are a few years removed from that quote, and this happens.
f***.

He's been eligible since 2009 (if you go by his first solo single) and yet, I don't think he's even been on one of the ballots.

he used to gather orphans and throw them a huge Christmas party every year. I'll miss him R.I.P That's a very sweet thing to do. Like I said, I'm not very familiar with him, but he clearly left an impact on the world, while he was alive.

This one is affecting me more than it should, I guess I didn't realize just how much his/their music was a part of my formative years.

I've always enjoyed it, and I still did, but it was damn weird listening to it today.

I wouldn't really hold it against them for not having the forethought to think Chris Cornell might die in his early 50s. Who ns i he'd even wanna be in it when he was still an active and contributing musician.

It's not about the foresight - it's the fact that it should be done already, but they have their "reasons" and now he's gone and I bet NOW they do what they should have years ago. The principle of the action (or lack thereof) is ridiculous, and all based on politics that, at the end of the day, mean nothing.

Man, I still can't believe it.
Chris' lyrics with Soundgarden have always resonated with me. Really dark and haunting at times.

So happy I got to see Soundgarden two times back in the early 90s. Once we before Badmotorfinger came out,the other was in support of that album. While Cornell still had a great voice something changed with his voice and the band after Badmotorfinger. I bought Superunknown the day it came out and was so disappointed I gave the album away a week later.
RIP Mr Cornell, say hi to Andy and Layne.

It was touching that at 5pm EST one of radio stations played nothing but Chris Cornell stuff My station did the same thing at noon, had people call in and share memories and thoughts on Chris. Of course, when I was in the car... doing errands with my mother... then we drove by the venue where I saw Chris in concert last July. Just a strange, somber day all around. I am a night owl so I was still awake at 3 AM when the news hit twitter, and I just knew I wasn't going to get any real sleep so I stayed awake and listened to the radio until the morning deejay came in at 6 AM and talked about Chris, and his passing and how kind Chris was when the deejays met him at that concert I went to. I'm still in shock, still heartbroken over it, and can't imagine how this must feel for his wife and kids.
