Soundgarden was my favorite of the Seattle grunge acts from that time. RIP Chris.

I have to admit that, out of the 4 grunge monster bands, Soundgarden was the one I never got into. I never followed Cornell's career closely.
That said, he was talented, and 'Burden in My Hand' is one of my favorite songs from the '90s.
RIP.

I liked Soundgarden and was really into Audioslave..(and as mentioned, his Bond song was ace)..Also reports of suicide..very sad. May he R.I.P.

This is absolutely devastating. It's depressing that 3/4 vocalists of the big 4 grunge bands of the 90's (Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden) are now dead. 4 out of 5 if we include Stone Temple Pilots. RIP

I don't even know what to say, but I'll try. I live and breathe by the Seattle music of the 90's. I'm the kind of person who still has CD's in their car, and I keep a Seattle-only zipper case that is the soundtrack of every drive I take. I have every Soundgarden album in there. Temple of the Dog is in there.
Last year, Temple played a handful of shows in the US, including here in Seattle. Trying my damndest, I couldn't score tickets. Upset as I was, I figured I'd get another chance.
This sucks. I can't begin to imagine what this is like for his band mates in Soundgarden. They're currently in the middle of a rare tour. And for Pearl Jam, those guys love Cornell like family.
I hate today.

I loved Chris Cornell's voice. Soundgarden was my third favorite of the big grunge bands behind Alice in Chains and Nirvana, which is pretty high praise considering how much I loved that era of rock music.
RIP Chris. The world lost a very talented musician last night. And if it was indeed suicide, I hope he can find peace in death that he apparently didn't have in life.

From CNN.com THIS was the last song he did...eerily ominous "The Grammy-winning rocker had performed Wednesday night at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. He ended his performance with a cover of Led Zeppelin's "In My Time of Dying." " My heart is breaking at this.

When I saw them on Sunday, Cornell did seem a *little* off in terms of tempo and he did very briefly forget/miscue the lyrics a couple times. Still, he did an amazing job overall. Since it was assigned seating, it was disappointing to see people who weren't that familiar if at all with them getting the better seating simply because they could afford it. So many dude bro guys in their 50's looking to hook up. It was embarrassing. I don't generally care if someone is a casual fan vs. a serious one, but it's things like this that gets under my skin a little. The fan with the real love and passion gets shoved back because someone wants to say they were there or something. At least pretend you care about being there for the music.

Man, this really took the wind out of my sails. Even though I was just a kid, those Seattle bands changed the way I listened to and thought about music. And Soundgarden was a big part of that. RIP.

This has wrecked me. 'Superunknown' was one of those albums I stumbled upon as a teenager that completely changed my life. That's always a corny cliche that people like throw out there, but it's absolute true. Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Metallica were my holy trinity as a teenager and all helped me in ways I could never begin to explain. When you're a depressed 15-year-old kid and you feel like you don't have anyone on the planet, you can hear a song like "Fell on Black Days" or "Mailman" and feel like someone is out there who understands the shit you're going through. A lot of those bands were therapy in that way. As adults, I feel like we're quick to scoff at things like that, but it means a lot when you're a kid looking for something to connect with. Chris Cornell helped me get through a very shitty childhood and I could've never thanked him enough. This sucks.

This sucks. One of the greatest voices in any genre of music.
And a strange coincidence, 37 years ago today Joy Division's Ian Curtis killed himself.

I feel so bad right now. I found out only an hour ago and now binging on Audioslave and Soundgarden. I cared more about his death than the other grunge artists, tbh.
RIP Chris Cornell.

I feel the same way. I wasn't really into Nirvana or AiC when Kurt and Layne died and my appreciation of them was purely posthumous. But I am already a fan of Chris and all his projects (Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog, etc). So this is pretty devastating.

Something seems really odd about this whole story. Papers are now saying that he hanged himself, and was found with a band around his neck, but the original report was that a friend found him on the bathroom floor.

How much pain were you suffering from?

Really speaks to the complexity of human life that someone like Cornell, who had one of the biggest bands in the world, left that and started another one, had a family, probably didn't have to worry about money for decades is still so discontent to a point of taking his own life. Really sad.
