Bret - "What we have here, are two Harts, beating as one, right Anvil?"
Anvil - "YEAH BABY! HAHAHAHAHAHA"
Utterly amazing team.

He was before my time, but it's so telling that he's a guy that simply matters. He made a difference and made a name. RIP.

I remember a story that I believe came from Roddy Piper’s book and I wanted to share it since it always gives me a laugh when I think about Jim Neidhart. As most people know the touring was crazy in the WWF in the 80s. They were constantly traveling and sometimes working multiple shows a day. Neidhart checked out and spent a few days away for reasons you can probably imagine. No one knew where he was. He knew he would be in big trouble so he called and said he was attacked by cat and got really sick. That he was totally out of it and in the hospital for a few days so he couldn’t call to tell them what had happened. He told them he was ok now and that he would definitely make the show that night. They were relieved and happy to hear he was ok. A couple weeks go by and someone asks Neidhart if he ever found out what made him so sick as he was about to go down the tunnel to the ring for his match. Neidhart started down the tunnel, turned back and said, “Yeah, cat scratch fever!” 😂

Can’t recall who told it either but I believe he started singing Cat Scratch Fever and making the guitar sounds too.

I think the person that he said that to was Jay Strongbow though. It really is a great story.

Man, just bummed myself out watching Summerslam 1990 and seeing the Hart Foundation promo in front of the tag team match with Demolition. Great stuff by The Anvil.

I heard the cat scratch fever story on his RF Video shoot interview.
Jim made it sound like that was a shoot. I seem to remember him saying it happened right before WWF's Christmas "break" so he managed to get a whole week off or something. And then he re-joined them when the tour started up again, and nobody believed him, but a real doctor told him he had "the cat-a scratch-a fever!!"
It's actually one of the best shoots they ever did. Jim was a great storyteller.

My favourite Anvil story was from Bret's book. Bret's left Jim in the hotel bar and gone up to their shared room. To avoid being woken up by Jim turning the lights on he tied a t-shirt around his eyes and settled down to sleep.
Soon after he's woken by Jim crashing into the room, stumbling about the place and then, much to Bret's horror, he hears Anvil unzip his fly and piss all over the carpet before collapsing onto the bed.
The next morning Bret is annoyed with Jim, who genuinely had no idea what he'd done wrong. He asked Bret what the problem was and Bret angrily replies that Jim peed all over the carpet, made a bad stain and stunk the room out. However, both men look at the carpet and see no stains. Bret apologises to Jim and they get ready to check out. As the Anvil lifts his suitcase a whole stream of piss trickled out of it! 😀

Anvil : "If I get my hands on that Jimmy Hart !!!" Bret : "Settle down man !" Face it, Jim had the personality of the team. He made Bret better by controlling his Wildman persona.

Re: Which Demolition members he might have to deal with at Summerslam 90.
Mean Gene - "What do you think Anvil?
Anvil - "Think?.....THINK?....they don't pay me to think....they pay me to be tough like an anvil right?......RIGHT?.....it never mattered to me because when I get in the ring I JUST DON'T CARE....hahahahahahhahah!"

Looking back at the moment that the Brain brought out the Big Gold in '91, Anvil(& Gorilla), had this great look of "Oh shit" when Bobby name drops Ric Flair.

It's finally sunk in and it's still sad to think about. While the Bulldogs were my favorites, the Foundation was just below them. And they were on TV a lot. They cut the promos where Jimmy would hype them up, Bret would break it down how they'll beat the Killer Bees (or whomever) and Anvil gets the last crazy word.
I liked Jim commentating. Mentioned that in a thread just before he died. Him, Gorilla and Heenan (or Mean Gene) worked pretty well together. They would bounce stuff off of Anvil because he's been in the ring with these guys and knows about them.
Wrestling With Shadows where Bret and Jim get together to throw around quotes to use for their spot later still cracks me up.
Bret: "Here's one: 'We're gonna get hungry and forget our manners'." Jim: "Where did that come from?" Bret: "Read it in a book of quotes. Then you do your 'Yeah baby' or whatever. You know how you do it." [Cut take] Bret: "How about this: 'We'll leave no man untested'." Jim: "We'll leave no man untested...We're gonna get hungry, and leave no man untested." (Smiling) Bret (laughing): "Oh, no no..." (Jim laughs.)

I do seem to remember Anvil being a surprisingly decent commentator, yeah. Not like, an all time great or anything, but definitely better than you'd think he'd be.

I liked the retired wrestlers turned commentators like Johnny Valiant, Ernie Ladd, Billy Graham among others. I know, they were far from the best in a majority of fans' eyes but they had such enthusiasm and brought a different perspective than regulars like Jesse, Bobby and Gorilla. So I would put Anvil in the group of guys that I really enjoyed but I'm guessing it wasn't something he was interested in doing for the long run. Wrestling was his thing and he was still pretty young and in good shape as opposed to someone like Billy Graham who was definitely done with in ring work.
