Granted, I get it, it isn't like he's going to shit all over it in interviews, but it'd have been a whole lot more honest to say something like, "We are doing the story we would have done had he not been injured for months." Like, maybe the idea then would have been him going for the title and having these hijinks, but doing it in a Wrestlemania finish is a different story.

Also, where do you go from there? He'd... defend the title against people? Such disingenuous babbling.

We’ve been getting three years of the same stuff with Roman. And it felt like the final crescendo had logically come.

Only for them to just do, more of the same.

Does Paul think that Roman having yet more filler feuds that you know going in will end the same way and that his challenger has absolutely no chance of actually winning is “better?”

Given Shane Douglas as ECW champion, maybe he really does think that.

With Shane there was at least the firm end goal that he wanted Shane to put over Taz.

Who has demonstrably come out of their matches against Roman looking better? That shit doesn't just happen automatically, it takes a really well executed match plus well thought out booking to ensure that a loss still serves as a building block for the talent involved.

Plus, yeah, this kind of thing doesn't work as well with a heel champion when you have weekly TV to fill up. It could work in ECW with Douglas since he wasn't highly featured on every weekly TV show, it worked in the past with a champ like Okada because he's more an ace than a pure face or heel, etc.

And, for the most part, Okada IS the babyface so he's supposed to go over often. The top heel can go over often, but not in such a way that kills off any chance to create a star people can unite around.


At the end of the day, Pro Wrestling is an artform where you have to send people home happy more often than not.

It’s not just that Roman always wins. It’s that he wins with the weakest, nothing happening awful finishes on repeat. It’s the main event of the biggest show of the year and you give us the same stuff we always see.

Honestly, the next chapter ain't difficult either. Cody comes out on Monday, cue BURN IT DOWN, then there's your next feud. Meanwhile, the Uso's are trying to chase down the tag titles again while Roman tells Solo he's in charge, then you get Solo trying to bite off more than he can chew and feud with Brock.

Then, Roman comes back around SummerSlam time, the Empire Strikes Back and he regains the title. Maybe you split the titles at this moment, too. From there, continue the gang warfare type of feud into Mania 40 next year when you do the third Cody/Roman match and Roman does the honors.

It literally took me two minutes to think that through and it's more interesting than "Brock beats up Cody a whole bunch, Cody somehow wins, wins MITB and challenges Roman again at SummerSlam."

Yeah - they had so many routes to go here. I think the reality is if it somehow gets out that they didn't want to change the belt because of the acquisition that's a decision I can at least comprehend even if I think it's faulty logic. Everything we've been fed so far is bullshit.
