Not a big deal in a bad way. D'Amore and Callis have said a bunch of smart stuff, last thing they want it to be is WWE-Lite. Impact's going to be based around 6 main stars with a territory-style shuffling of talent around them to keep everybody else fresh. Similar to 1990s All Japan and ECW.
They aren't going to build around Rey long-term or job everyone out to him (unless he's one of those 6 stars.)
They're probably just going to bring him in for a couple tapings and put somebody over at the end.

If you don't count the opening of the show or the segment where Hogan gave Sabin a pep talk you'd be 100% correct. 1.2 is TNA's regular number when sport isn't on. Also the fact this big show was hyped for a little over a month that MAY have something to do with the ratings gain. Actually - for the past few years they've been around .99-1.1. Even in 2012 they hit 1.2 only a handful of times. So unless "sport" isn't on only five times a year - gonna have to call BS on that. As far as "Sport" goes...in the U.S., Impact really only has about 10 shows throughout the year that aren't head-to-head with NBA, NFL, or College Football. Late-June (end of NBA Finals/NBA Draft) through mid-August (beginning of NFL Preseason) is the only window without competition from major sports on Thursday nights. And MLB fills that Summer void in all the regional markets (though not as highly rated).

The Joe thing is intriguing. Thinking back to last week when Magnus & Joe had that really weird post match deal where Magnus half-buttedly hit Joe's arm with the chair, and stared at him oddly. Was that to give Joe an idea how to take out Aries?
And if not...what was that all about?

^ Come on. 25 of the 36 dudes on that page fit the clone description. Bo Rotunda and Richie Steamboat would be called up by WWE by now if they did too. Wrong. Wrong all around. Very few guys fit the parameters you set, and most of the ones that do (IE: Adam Mercer, DT Porter, etc) are the jobbers that have no storyline. The most pushed guys in FCW are Rollins, Ohno, Dallas, Cesaro, Steamboat, etc. Cesaro might be muscular and tall, but he's fall from the generic meathead that you claim is all FCW has. Try watching some NXT. And to get back on topic... Wes Briscoe got cut because of injury issues. Plus the guy has never struck me as being the most mature guy around. Did it ever occur to you that I wasnt counting the guys you mentioned? Save for Claudio, who fits the mold. You could argue Ohno and Rollins fit the new Drew McIntyre/Terra Ryzin mold that HHH likes. Anyways, have fun watching NXT!!! It's really fun!

This is the son of a longtime respected WWE employee who is one of the greatest wrestlers of the last half century and he wasn't even good enough for FCW. That's rather telling. Eh. He's pretty well thought of by Dory Funk, Jr., who trained Angle, Edge, Christian etc. back in the day, and is working with Brisco right now. Waltman raves about him, too. Those are two pretty savvy dudes. WWE wanted him to become a ref because he wasn't one of their 6-foot-4, 260 muscle clones they like in developmental, and at his size, isn't a high flyer. He apparently didn't wanna be a ref. So he was released. From all i have seen...He is a good worker, but a terrible actor (as a babyface). Always comes off like a slimy scumbag pretty naturally, so he's probably a decent heel.

I'm only 30, so i started watching at the tail end of his career. Since then, watched a TON of him on YouTube.
He is one of the better promo guys of all-time, IMO. Completely different than what would become "modern" style like promos like Flair, Hogan, Rock, etc. But very effective and convincing.
He was legit. Involved in three of the best heel turns I have ever seen. That one from 1980, the one on Thunderbolt Patterson in 1985, and kicking Sting out of the Horsemen in 1990. (So I can easily forgive him for voicing Black Scorpion & Shockmaster).

2004-2006 were pretty darn good, IMO.
In 2004, you had Chris Harris make a decent singles run while Storm was hurt, looking like a future star (which sounds crazy in retrospect), XXX, AMW, Naturals, AJ, Monty Brown, X Cup, Team Canada...etc. Jarrett holding onto the World title too long was REALLY annoying, but even then, he had some really good matches. I really liked the latter part of the Nashville era. Seemed like they were onto something big getting on FSN.
As soon as they got Impact on FSN, it got a little boring for a while, and they'd brought in bigger dudes like Jeff Hardy, Scott Hall, Billy Gunn, Nash, DDP, etc., and it started to get away from them...though those most of the roster was young and really talented.
By the time Joe arrived (mid-2005 or so?), and D'Amore had the book, it was freaking rad. All downhill when they got Russo in late-2006, who wasn't clueless to the kinds of guys TNA fans wanted to see (X Division, Joe, etc.), but his execution was terrible.
It's possibly better now than it's ever been though. All the big moves, X-Division-style and stuff from the early days were what got me into it...but that wears thin after you see a lot of it (at least to me). The wrestling might be better top-to-bottom now.

A quick look at Wikipedia says Kozina was trained by Billy Jack Haynes and Matt Borne...two bastians of sanity...which probably partially explains why he is a 42-year old loser choking out teenagers.
Team Ambition...What a lame group of jerks.

This pretty much how he was brought into Ring Ka King, down to the debut promo in nice street clothes...even though he was mostly used as a tag partner of DH Smith. Looks to be the same deal, with Hernandez taking the Smith role. Dont think he is gonna be a main eventer. A guy showing up in a new company/territory putting himself over as a big deal is one of the oldest promotional tricks in the book. Have no problem with it. If TNA is going to insult our intelligence, its far better doing it while trying to get a guy over, than how they used to insult it (which was at every turn). Once he wrestles, everyone realizes/remembers he isn't Eddie, not even close, but he isn't terrible. Chavo has always been in a hard position, he is really difficult to repackage because he was getting over in WCW when they were doing 5s in the ratings. So he has been well known since 1997, and his last name has a stigma. But he was mostly a comedy act there and in WWE for the better part of 15 years, even though he can have good matches with the right opponents. What do you do with a guy like that?* *- {Spoiler}Probably turn him heel eventually and feud with Eric Young over ODB or something. Then let his contact lapse, or move him into a backstage role.

When the whole AJ/Dixie/Daniels storyline started, those were the highest rated segments of the show (before the lame addict reveal).
I feel like they are copying the whole "let's set up a baby face to look like he's done something terrible" thing, this time with Storm.
Really into this Aces storyline. After last week, I was wondering how they'd get more mileage out of these attacks without revealing identities or motives, and the new Storm twist of "is he/isnt he?" is really good.

1. Could also be said that she took the word of her most trusted wrestling adviser, Sting, who convinced her to allow Hogan back. Growing up watching NWA/WCW, I always thought Sting was the dumbest character (storyline-wise). He would buddy up with guys like Flair and Luger like nothing happened between them, and you knew they were going to turn on him. Just thought him asking for Hogan in charge was good continuity. I loved that time in TNA when Sting "turned" on "face" Hogan (pre-They/Them/Deception) and Flair celebrated, screaming something like "Yes! Sting! I knew it! I own you!". Reminded me of all those times Flair outsmarted dumb old Sting through the years.

He is pretty good for a big man-type. Especially at that stage. I was a big fan of his pops back in the day, and Scott Hall was pretty green and kind of a stiff until 1989 or so...shortly before the Diamond Studd era.
He will definitely get a developmental look soon.

His All-Japan tag stuff with Hansen is awesome. Especially against the Funks. He had some fun tag stuff teaming with Snuka too. All the Brody tag stuff from Japan is good stuff.
