My grandfather bought me my first home computer 20 years ago this April. It featured a 133mhz processor, a 2 GB hard drive, and 16 MB of RAM. The cost? A whooping $2500, not even accounting for inflation. Meanwhile, a 2 GB flash drive can be had today for $5 or less. I was thinking that my first computer was about the same, and then I realized it was my second computer my dad bought in 1997. The first computer my family had was a Packard Bell that had 33Mhz 486sx processor, 120MB of hard drive space and 4MB of RAM. But it did have a double speed CD-ROM. I remember playing X-Wing and Wolfenstein 3D on it, which you had to use DOS to load, because it ran on Windows 3.1. Also the computer was too weak to run Rebel Assault. Of course the sound card crashed and eventually it just kept freezing, so my dad bought a new computer, which was very similar to your first one and cost somewhere around $2000.

Before my Mac I had a TI-99 4A that used a conventional TV for a monitor

When I was young the internet was so new, that we didn't have a computer but a neighbor did, so if we got stuck on a game we would go to his house to go to Nintendo.com and send an email to get our answer on how to beat the level/boss...oh and we had to wait for the response for like 2-3 days.

In May, it will have been 11 years since Justice League Unlimited, and the DCAU, ended.

I saw The Fifth Element on tv today, and realized that it was 20 years old.

Not mine, but that one about the wii being 10(15 years) gave me pause. Whenever Big Bad Brad and I do wrestling quizzes, they're always the retro ones. Most of the questions on these, I can legit say I saw live.

Ralph Macchio is older now than Pat Morita was when the Karate Kid came out.

I'm old enough to be the father of some of my co-workers. While not being a teenage dad.

I've met someone who didn't think the Marilyn Manson cover of "Tainted Love" was a cover. Same for Korn's "Word Up". Man I'm old

This was supposed to represent the distant future, and now we're only three years away from it.

Not really a cultural thing, but here's something amusing for the thread. I got a person with disability card, which gives me the same discounts as seniors. Now, it's valid on every place that offers a senior discount, but people never seem to update their computers. To get a discount, I have to sign my name on a receipt. Basically, the line under/over where I sign says name of senior citizen instead of PWD.

Went roller skating today for my daughter's post-birthday party. A few thoughts: 1) I knew exactly THREE songs played the entire 2 1/2 hours. Car Wash (1978, I was 4 when it came out), Disco Duck (same Era and I hate Rick Dees), and The Curly Shuffle (the newest, came out in 1983). 2) Haven't Cha-Cha Slide in over 10 years. (I still got it.) Last time I did was at my brother's friend's wedding. My sister in law was drunk off her ass and kept bumping into me because she didn't know her left and right. (Oh, the wedding was in 2005.) 3) The first time I went skating, the songs I remember clearly were "The Super Bowl Shuffle" and "Conga" by Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine. (If you guessed 1986, you win the pony.) 4) Aside from the 3 people working there...I was the oldest guy on the floor. (And I'm sore as hell.) 5) When my daughter was born, a popular song at the time was "Oops I Did It Again" by Britney Spears. (18 years ago, friends.)
F*** I'm old.
