Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are going to present an award (I assume best original screenplay and maybe adapted screenplay as well) to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of Good Will Hunting's release.

Went roller skating today for my daughter's post-birthday party. A few thoughts: 1) I knew exactly THREE songs played the entire 2 1/2 hours. Car Wash (1978, I was 4 when it came out), Disco Duck (same Era and I hate Rick Dees), and The Curly Shuffle (the newest, came out in 1983). 2) Haven't Cha-Cha Slide in over 10 years. (I still got it.) Last time I did was at my brother's friend's wedding. My sister in law was drunk off her ass and kept bumping into me because she didn't know her left and right. (Oh, the wedding was in 2005.) 3) The first time I went skating, the songs I remember clearly were "The Super Bowl Shuffle" and "Conga" by Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine. (If you guessed 1986, you win the pony.) 4) Aside from the 3 people working there...I was the oldest guy on the floor. (And I'm sore as hell.) 5) When my daughter was born, a popular song at the time was "Oops I Did It Again" by Britney Spears. (18 years ago, friends.) F*** I'm old. Get off my lawn! The last time I was at a skating rink, everyone was ready for the song "Convoy" (a 1975 ballad about truckers) where one of the rink chaperones would start a conga skating line that would go all over (and outside of) the rink. Other popular hits were "Star Wars Disco". There were "Modes" for the rink: All skate, couples only, and races. The pinball machines there were some of the first with LCD displays. No one batted an eye at 10-year olds shooting pool.

Show a kid one of these. Some will have no idea what they are. Better yet show kids a picture of a video tape along with a small piece of cardboard and sellotape or a cassette tape and a pencil and they will think you're MacGyver, if they know who that is.

My parents' phone number has not changed since I was four years old. I still remember the number printed in the middle of the rotor on the front of it.
I wrote stories on a typewriter.
The stereo I had in my bedroom had a turntable, a cassette deck and 8-track.

I remember dinosaurs, they were in black and white. Obviously color wasn't invented until the 1930's

... that episode originally aired 21 years ago in May. I work with plenty of people who are younger this episode. One time I asked or found it was someone's birthday April 1st 1990. I said "I remember what I did that day. It was WrestleMania 6".

The first episode of Buffy premired 20 years ago.
I found a Nintendo 64 at a garage sale yesterday.
Dude sold it and 12 games to me for 20 bucks.
I remember my mom spending 300 for mine and 2 games when it was first released.

One of my housemates didn't want to watch Die Hard because it came out in 1988 and is 'ancient'.
I really wanted to punch him in the mouth.

F*** I'm old. 1) I remember Rick Dees having a talk show. It was alright. 2) I never could skate. I preferred to spend my time at the rink playing Punch-Out instead (though I prefer the Mike Tyson NES version), Afterburner, and Spy Hunter. It was later when I was a teenager that Street Fighter 2 (26 years ago), Wrestlefest (also 26 years ago), TMNT arcade (28 years ago), and X-Men (only 25 years ago) all came out. 4) I teach college courses, so most people I see each week are younger than my oldest kid. 5) Hey! She's old enough that it is no longer creepy for me to think she is hot!

I was 4-years-old, watching SRW with my older brother. He kept telling my there was no leap year that year, but I was a mark and believed whatever veteran news man Lance Catamaran told me. 30 years flies by.
My son is getting into RescueBots and I was telling my kids about the original transformers and realized it was over 30 years old. Optimus Prime is still my leadership role model.
